Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 615 - 614: Leaving Mythical Island and Giovanni’s Call
Chapter 615 - 614: Leaving Mythical Island and Giovanni's Call
Three days later.
It was the final day on Mythical Island.
Standing on the edge of the island, Cain finally saw the ship Team Rocket had sent to pick him up.
Fifteen days had passed on the island. Cain had seen everything there was to see, and as for the resources collected, Team Rocket generously allowed the collector to keep them all.
However, an awkward situation arose: the Team Rocket ship only came to retrieve one person—and that person was Cain.
Yes, only Cain.
This left the mission coordinators somewhat embarrassed. They had expected that, despite the dangers, at least a third of the participants would return, but now only Cain stood there.
What had happened?
The time and place of pickup had been clearly communicated before arriving on the island, so everyone knew when and where they needed to be.
According to what Cain knew, only four people were still alive: Regi and Glacius were too afraid to show up for fear of being attacked, and Aurelia did not want to face Cain at that moment.
As for Aurelia, with her power and resources, she preferred to avoid the situation entirely. She didn't want to confront either Regi, who was strong both in force and rank, or Cain, whom she had previously betrayed.
The team that arrived to pick him up wasn't made up of high-ranking personnel, and although they were surprised that only Cain was present, they didn't ask too many questions.
Once they confirmed that there was only one person to retrieve, they escorted Cain in a small boat to the larger ship stationed beyond the island's barrier.
Cain was completely calm, as if everything was perfectly normal.
Once aboard the larger ship, a Team Rocket officer questioned him. Cain detailed the situation on the island, omitting, of course, any mention of the legendary Pokémon Mew's ruins.
When asked about the others, Cain simply said he didn't know anything about them.
Although the officer seemed skeptical of that response, they ultimately had no choice but to accept it since Cain was the only visible survivor.
Finally, Giovanni was contacted.
Cain once again saw Giovanni's face on the screen and recounted what had happened on the island.
Giovanni didn't ask many questions or show any signs of doubting Cain's words. He simply ordered the second wave of the team to enter the island promptly and instructed them to rescue any surviving members if possible.
Furthermore, Giovanni had the data Cain provided distributed to everyone participating in the second expedition to the island.
This second group included not only some of the high-ranking officers sent directly by Giovanni but also numerous Senior Officers and regular team members.
The goal was to thoroughly plunder the resources of Mythical Island, using a systematic approach to gain the greatest possible benefit.
As for anyone who might still be alive, Giovanni didn't worry much about them. If they could be rescued, they would be, but if not, it wouldn't be a significant loss. After all, Team Rocket always had a steady influx of new, talented recruits.
To Cain's surprise, Giovanni didn't ask any questions about Regi or the others, allowing him to set aside, for now, his worst fear—that Regi might have a close relationship with Giovanni.
Cain decided that once he returned, he would thoroughly investigate Regi's background, as the situation remained unclear.
At the end of the conversation, Giovanni praised Cain's achievements in the Hoenn region and expressed his hope that Cain would quickly rise to become one of Team Rocket's Executives.
Of course, to become an Executive, he first needed to reach the necessary power level.
After the call ended, Cain breathed a sigh of relief. Giovanni's presence was undeniable, and his leadership style inspired respect and loyalty from anyone.
That was the true way of a leader. It was no wonder Team Rocket had grown so rapidly in recent years.
The ship's officer, seeing Giovanni's praise for Cain, recalled that Cain was the person everyone in Team Rocket's upper ranks had been talking about lately—the young man who had caught Giovanni's attention.
Although the officer maintained a superior attitude, he showed a bit more respect toward Cain.
After recording the information Cain provided, the officer arranged for a small boat to take Cain back to the mainland.
The entire process took Cain a full day, but he had no choice but to comply.
Finally, everything related to Mythical Island was over, and the future development of the place no longer had anything to do with Cain. With Team Rocket's capabilities, they would undoubtedly obtain a sample of Mew's DNA.
The only obstacle left would be the potential resistance from the ruins' guardians, which would be quite troublesome.
"In a few years, Mewtwo should appear. I wonder what my power level will be by then and whether I'll be able to participate in that event," Cain pondered as he rested in the small boat, hands behind his head, thinking about the future.
He knew Regi and Glacius, with their abilities, wouldn't die on the island, but they were significantly weakened. If they wanted revenge against him, they would need time, giving Cain enough leeway to pull ahead further.
As for Aurelia, Cain held no grudge against her. As long as she didn't get in his way, he wouldn't trouble her. After all, she was Ariana's subordinate, and though not the most important to Ariana, Cain couldn't eliminate her without raising suspicions.
In summary, Cain was aware that he had started making enemies within Team Rocket, such as Regi, Glacius, and even Lucius, who held an executive rank.
Some issues he could resolve now, but others would have to wait. Additionally, some would require the protection of allies to avoid retaliation.
Despite the challenges, the rewards from this expedition were substantial.
He had managed to capture a near-elite-level Altaria, along with two Altaria hatchlings. While the Altaria might not fully obey him outside the island, their friendly relationship would ensure some level of cooperation.
He also captured an entire colony of Carbink, including one that was mutating—though he wasn't sure what it would eventually evolve into.
Supplies for his Pokémon, such as Larvitar and Aron, were also secured.
Finally, he found a tuft of fur stained with Mew's blood in the ruins, which nearly brought him to an intermediate psychic power level and improved Slowking's quality to quasi-purple, with the potential to reach light purple quality in the future.
Oh, and he almost forgot to mention Floette that Cain decided to take with him after "consulting" with her before leaving the island.
On top of all this, the resources collected on the island were countless. Cain estimated their total value at tens of millions of Pokédollars.
Adding the increase in his Pokémon's power, Cain had significantly strengthened his position.
In short, the fruits of this adventure were incredibly rewarding.
