Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 215: Prey Will Be Prey
The world seemed to have paused for that brief second to N'bayé. At that moment, she felt as if she had been pushed into a cold sticky mud pool.
It felt sticky, it felt real, it felt…annoying, it felt exhilarating.
Her eyes widened, and the red runes in her left pupil subtly transformed into a blue color as she turned her head around slowly to look at the sea.
The fur on her body stood straight and a tingling sensation overtook her.
*BA-DUMP!*
Her heart beat fiercely against her chest.
*BOOM!*
Debris was blasted into the sky as Stella burst out of the rubble, now in her large rabbit form.
N'bayé's ear twitched and she turned around again to stare at Stella.
"He is well, and he is early," She said vaguely, "I should finish my part,"
Her fur that stood straight on her body returned to its relaxed state and the rune on her body stopped blinking.
Her body glitched before she disappeared from her position, rushing at Stella who responded with a charge of her own.
Her lack of killing claws and fangs didn't deter Stella, rather, she had a growing desire to prove here and now that rabbits were not inferior to any predator.
She would prove that they were not inferior to anyone, especially not the lions.
Electrified magic orbs hurled through the air blasting electric arcs in all directions, and magic turrets ceaselessly fired teeth bullets at the moving magus lioness as well as the army that flowed into the settlement.
The battle of two entities with the power of a tier four lion, both of whom were Maguses, was catastrophic to a densely populated place such as the settlement.
Stella kicked out, launching herself through the huts while dodging the numerous magic orbs N'bayé was sending her way.
While they fought, Stella consciously tried to steer the battle away from the settlement, keeping it by the shore.
N'bayé also fought with focus as she was mindful of any attacks going to her belly. She had to be careful.
The fights within the settlement were also getting heated. The enemy forces poured in with vigor and ferocity, killing and dying in the name of the golden lion.
The two figures, one lioness, and one rabbit, streaked back and forth across the shoreline, blasting sand and water everywhere they want
Stella held her own, fine and well, but she also overestimated herself.
The natural truth was that rabbits did not have the combat ability and awareness of a lion.
Stella and N'bayé might have similar power levels, but it didn't necessarily mean that Stella was N'bayé's equal.
They did not have the same body, they did not have the same killer instincts, and they did not have the same hunter mentality.
Stella never went for the neck, she didn't attack the hind or joints. They moved fast and she only aimed to hit N'bayé where she was thought to be good to hit.
N'bayé on the other hand went straight for the killing blow every time she struck. Her claws always followed a path that would lead to the windpipe.
Unlike Stella whose eyes subconsciously darted around, looking for a point of advantage, N'bayé kept her gaze focused on the oversized rabbit.
Stella's combat ability revolved around fighting against ordinary predators, while N'bayé was just not an ordinary predator.
The only thing deadlier than a natural predator was a smart predator.
Equality? That was Stella's illusion.
*SHICK!*
The sound of flesh being cut with ease stunned Stella. She erected a green magic barrier around her, blocking some of those electric blasts and allowing herself time to inspect herself.
A long red line had appeared on her back, running from her left shoulder to her hind just before her tail. The cut was clean and quick, she wouldn't have known that it was there if she had not heard the sound of her flesh being torn.
Just a little bit deeper and it would have touched her spine.
Stella's heart beat with fear, a fear she had forgotten she had. That fear that all rabbits had when they encountered a predator, was the same fear that pushed them to run away so that they could live to see another day.
Stella had lacked this fear for a long time, it was no wonder she was so comfortable staying around meat eaters like Zed, Zod, and Aeon.
Her pupils dilated and her muscles tensed, she should have just run away, she was starting to think so.
*BAM!*
N'bayé slammed into the green barrier with a blue magic barrier of her own, sending Stella the rabbit sliding over the sand and shallow water.
N'bayé was not one to enjoy close combat, even though she was a lioness. But to deal with Stella, she needed her most complex and strongest runes, all of those runes were etched on her body.
Stella suddenly took a drastic decision that didn't surprise N'bayé but shocked the rabbits that were fighting nearby.
She ran.
As soon as she stabilized herself l, her legs smashed the sand and she hopped away at an incredible speed.
Was this still the same Stella who wanted to fight for the rights of the rabbits?
Despite her size, she was still very fast.
"A prey will always be a prey, disdainful," N'bayé said before rushing after the fleeing rabbit.
"It must have been so long since you were hurt hasn't it, you've deluded yourself and forgotten your place on the food chain."
N'bayé flew fast, faster than her magic orbs could follow. Had she expected this to happen?
Yes, it was common sense.
Stella was a rabbit, a prey, her species was the staple food source for meat eaters. It was encoded in her genes to fear predators.
It didn't matter how high her power level reached, at the end of the day, she was still prey.
It was exactly as N'bayé said, Stella had forgotten her place, and that injury reminded her of the risk of fighting a predator like N'bayé.
N'bayé had counted on this, betting on the common behavioral knowledge she had gathered in rabbits in general.
The cry of multiple birds resounded across the skies as birds took to the skies to engage in aerial battles.
Flamingos were the most common birds in the sky with most of them trying to escape.
The eagles had not forgotten what had been done to their leader Skybaud. Stella had shot him dead and his body still lay in the rubble till now.
The culprit of this horrendous crime, Stella was fighting with N'bayé, so they had resulted in taking out their vengeance on the inhabitants of the beach settlement.
Condra, the new acting commander of the Avian Intel dived down from the sky with killing intent flashing in his eyes.
His metal feathers produced a screeching noise as they clinked against each other. He was like a winged spirit of death, promising demise with his presence.
In an instant, he crashed down onto one of Stella's rabbit advisors, his shiny talons sinking deep into his back.
This rabbit advisor was the size of a big wolf, so he was not small by any means.
He flapped his wings a second later, ignoring the cries and thrashing of the fiery rabbit. His wings took him high into the sky again, bringing with him the somewhat helpless rabbit.
The fiery rabbit advisor trashed, bursting into a flaming rabbit and throwing around balls of fire without any aim, all while the sharp talons were still embedded in his flesh.
Those talons were curved and strong, no matter how he shrieked or fought back, he would have to hurt Condra seriously before he was let go.
Unfortunately, Condra, who shared the same power level as the now dead Skybaud, gritted his beak and ignored the rising heat.
While still in the sky, Condra leaned his head down and positioned his silver beak in front of the wide-open eye of the rabbit advisor.
The rabbit advisor's heart palpitated, he knew what this metal-feathered bird wanted to do. He turned his head away and shut his eyelids, refusing to suffer such a fate.
But Condra didn't care.
He forced his curved metal beak into the closed eyes of the rabbit. The eyelids were pushed away and the eyeball was exposed for picking.
The rabbit screamed in agony as the beak tore into his eye hole before abruptly pulling out, tearing out his eyeball in the process.
There was still a bloody cord connecting the eyeball to the insides of his head and this brought him immense pain.
Condra pulled hard, ruthlessly cutting the cord out of the eye socket and swallowing the eyeball.
This was just the start of the horrors the rabbit would experience before dying.
This was how nature intended it to be, orderly, and balanced, some would say there was a sort of beauty to be seen in the savagery of these beasts.
Such scenes of brutality occur a lot as the invasion devolved into a mini-war.
In this battle, only one side was sure of what they were fighting for.
Another thing happened that solidified the outcome of this conflict.
N'bayé caught Stella.
