Chapter 40: Make Wen Zhi happy

Chapter 40: Make Wen Zhi happy

“Shang Jing didn’t expect his elder brother to leave before him, and immediately asked, “Then, could you take me to see my brother?”

Gu Rang replied with two words to Shang Jing, “No.”

Shang Jing’s expression froze for a few seconds, then he turned to look at Wen Zhi, gesturing with raised eyebrows, “You communicate with him, convey what I mean.”

Wen Zhi’s mouth opened, but before she could speak, Gu Rang coldly threw at Shang Jing, “I understand what you mean. If there’s anything else you wish to convey, use your own mouth to say it.”

“…”

Pretentious.

Haughty.

Shang Jing didn’t expect a mere bodyguard from the Baixi Manor Area to be so arrogant.

He darkened his face, staring directly at Gu Rang, “I did speak, but you didn’t take me seriously and are giving me a hard time on purpose.”

Gu Rang replied in a indifferent tone, “What’s there for me to make difficult for you? I don’t even know who you are.”

Shang Jing was so angry that he rolled up his sleeves and put his hands on his hips, “You’re just a bodyguard, how can you speak to a customer with such an attitude? Be careful, or I might file a complaint against you.”

“Bodyguard?” Gu Rang frowned.

This reaction seemed to show discontent with the term and a hint of confusion.

Shang Jing sensed something was off and was about to ask Wen Zhi what was going on, but when he turned his head, he saw that Wen Zhi had already walked far away.

“Wen Zhi!”

Shang Jing hurried after her, with Gu Rang closely following.

As expected, Wen Zhi was stopped upon trying to enter through the main gate.

A manager in a full suit looked down his nose at her, “You need to schedule an appointment three days in advance, on a 24-hour basis. Not a minute less, or you can’t enter.”

After speaking, the manager noticed Wen Zhi’s attire—simple and unelaborate, not looking like someone who could afford to patronize Baixi Manor.

Thus, he waved his hand toward the direction of the exit, “If your reservation is not complete, please leave.”

Wen Zhi hadn’t paid much attention to the manager, her focus was instead attracted by the Sui Bead on the stage. The Sui Bead, light purple and almost transparent, round and naturally formed, was of considerable value and representative of Baixi Manor’s lavish style.

She raised her hand, pointing at the Sui Bead.

The manager didn’t understand.

Wen Zhi said, “I’m tired of looking at it, change it to a Fortune Cat. Make it solid gold and pure. It would just fit the size of your head.”

“…”

The manager’s expression was one of complete bafflement.

This was an expensive Sui Bead, not to be traded for a fortune! To casually suggest replacing this valuable Sui Bead with a trinket cat as if you own the place, who do you think you are?

“Wen Zhi!” Shang Jing’s voice came from behind.

Wen Zhi turned around and saw Shang Jing walking briskly towards her, she asked, “Are you done talking?”

“Don’t even mention him,” Shang Jing had a poor impression of Gu Rang.

Seeing Wen Zhi standing there without having entered, he correctly guessed, “You were stopped, weren’t you?”

Wen Zhi did not answer but instead pointed at the Sui Bead she had just mentioned to Shang Jing, “See? Wouldn’t it be better to replace it with a Fortune Cat?”

Shang Jing glanced in the direction Wen Zhi was pointing.

It was a rare Sui Bead, and with a discerning eye, Shang Jing could tell it was costly.

He lowered his voice, “Don’t be ridiculous.”

Wen Zhi asked again, “What about a solid gold Fortune Cat?”

Shang Jing’s face was a picture of disbelief.

Just then, Gu Rang walked over. The manager, upon seeing Gu, was visibly startled. As he made to approach, Gu gestured for him to stop and said, “Let them in.”

Though puzzled, the manager would never question Gu Rang’s decisions and turned to Wen Zhi with a forced smile, “Please, come inside.”

Shang Jing wore an odd expression, “We can go in just like that?”

Wen Zhi, unsurprised by the manager’s sudden change in demeanor, reminded before entering, “Remember to switch to the Fortune Cat, huh.”

The manager didn’t respond, merely smiling.

As soon as Wen Zhi and Shang Jing had stepped inside, the manager quickly walked up to Gu Rang and nodded, greeting him, “Boss Xiaogu.”

Gu Rang asked, “What did she mean about changing to a Fortune Cat?”

The manager was taken aback, but seeing that Boss Xiaogu wasn’t just making small talk, he answered immediately, “She suggested that we replace the Sui Bead with a solid gold Fortune Cat.”

Gu Rang’s gaze drifted upward, landing on the Sui Bead.

He recalled that bead, it was bought by President Mu at Sotheby’s for eighty million pounds the year before last. Not only had it shocked the auction and jewelry worlds, but it had also broken the record for the highest price ever fetched at a Sotheby’s jewelry auction.

To replace that eighty-million-pound Sui Bead with a Fortune Cat, Gu Rang wondered what President Mu would think.

Gu Rang’s lips curled into a smile as he instructed the manager, “Go ahead and arrange it as she said.”

The manager was shocked, “Boss Xiaogu, you’re really going to do it?”

Gu Rang said, “As long as she is happy.”

Meanwhile, at the Wen Family.

Wen Yiwan, wearing a light pink spaghetti strap nightgown, descended from upstairs. Rubbing her eyes and yawning, she looked sleepy as she came down the stairs.

Catching sight of Su Tong standing at the foot of the staircase, Wen Yiwan asked, “What have you found out?”

Su Tong was Wen Yiwan’s personal servant and her most trusted confidante. Whenever Wen Yiwan had to deal with tricky matters, it was Su Tong who would step in to strategize and gather intelligence on her behalf, making her Wen Yiwan’s most trusted person.

Given the early hour, Su Tong’s hurried visit likely meant she had important news.

“Madam, Miss Wen Zhi went out again today,” said Su Tong.

Wen Yiwan had thought it was something of great importance. Having reached the last step, she stood before Su Tong, “She has been going out frequently lately. Remember, unless she’s meeting someone important, there’s no need to report it to me.”

Su Tong handed over the freshly brewed Shuanghua Tea to Wen Yiwan and lower her voice, “Madam, the places where Miss Wen Zhi has been going these past few days were easy to predict, but today was different.”

Wen Yiwan savored a sip of the Shuanghua Tea, her eyes expanding with relaxation. Upon hearing Su Tong’s words, she turned a questioning gaze toward her.

Leaning in, Su Tong whispered beside her, “Miss Wen Zhi went to Baixi Manor today.”

Wen Yiwan narrowed her eyes, “Baixi Manor? Has she already gone inside?”

Su Tong nodded, “She has.”

Wen Yiwan passed the teacup back to Su Tong and casually gathered her long, cascading curls. Her languid aura was captivating, and her features bore a resemblance to Wen Yinxi.

She was none other than Wen Zhi’s aunt—Wen Yiwan, her mother’s younger sister.

In just over ten days, it would be Wen Yiwan’s first wedding anniversary with Mu Yanzhou. It was their first anniversary, and she wanted it to be exceptionally memorable for Mu Yanzhou.

So, she had been pampering herself, changing hairstyles, ordering a lot of ready-to-wear and haute couture, making her glow with radiance uncommon for a woman past forty.

But Wen Yiwan was aware that taking care of her appearance alone wasn’t enough.

Mu Yanzhou hadn’t touched her once in the year they were married.

No matter how she served, seduced, or pleased him, nothing worked.

At first, Wen Yiwan had her doubts, but her love for Mu Yanzhou was so deep that she was willing to tie her life to him even if he truly had issues.

However, one night, when Mu Yanzhou came home drunk, Wen Yiwan took care of him with affection only to be driven out of the bedroom. Unwilling to give up, she picked the lock and entered, only to inadvertently witness a scene at the doorway of the washroom that kept her awake the entire night…

All this time, she had been taking care of herself.

Eating all kinds of supplements, undergoing check-ups, all because she was hoping to get pregnant during this anniversary.
