When Alanis arrived back home with his wife, Charlotte was already waiting. She had heard the commotion, the maids and butler rushing toward the entrance, whispering urgently among themselves about the return of their boss and madam. She had been waiting for their arrival all night, her heart heavy with worry.
Charlotte understood that couples argued and fought a lot, but whatever had happened between Alanis and Harlow was on another level. It made her question everything. Had she truly agreed to this marriage? Had she forced Alanis into it? Or worse, had Harlow’s parents pressured her into marrying her grandson?
Right now, more than ever, Charlotte hated that she couldn’t remember anything from before. There had to be a reason why these two ended up together. She knew she needed to do something about them before they killed themselves soon.
As soon as Harlow stepped out of the car, she didn’t hesitate. She walked straight to Charlotte, wrapping her arms around the older woman. The small peck she placed on Charlotte’s cheek was enough to melt her heart, momentarily making her forget all her worries.
"Don’t ever break my heart like that again, Harlow," Charlotte chided, rubbing her chest as if soothing an ache. "I almost had a heart attack yesterday."
Harlow nodded sincerely. "I will never do that again, Grandma. I promise."
She never meant to hurt Charlotte. She had been so caught up in Alanis’s dare that she hadn’t realized how much her actions had affected the people who cared about her.
"That’s good," Charlotte said, but her sharp eyes quickly turned to Alanis, her expression shifting into a glare.
"I know he can be overbearing and stupid at times," she said bluntly, making Alanis chuckle. It’s not his grandmother if she doesn’t scold him and blame him for everything.
He was her grandson, her blood, but somehow she always took Harlow’s side in every fight. "And I hate that we always have to endure his nonsense. But you can’t keep running away. If you leave me, how am I supposed to deal with him alone?" Harlow turned her gaze to the man beside her and she couldn’t stop staring at those lips.
She was yet to believe those lips were the same ones that made her scream the way she did, just a few hours ago. She blinked herself back to reality as she dragged her eyes away from him.
What is wrong with you Harlow?" Harlow scolded herself inwardly.
Alanis on the other hand said nothing. He knew his grandmother well enough to understand that she wasn’t done scolding him yet.
Charlotte had been on his case the entire previous day, refusing to let him set foot in the house unless he came back with his wife. And now that he had, she wasn’t going to let him off easily.
She turned back to Harlow, a softness returning to her eyes.
"I love you, dear. And I know it hasn’t been easy. But no matter what happens, don’t let this man push you away. You’re the best thing that’s happened to this family." Harlow smiled, her heart warming at Charlotte’s words even if her head and mind were in chaos at the moment.
"I won’t leave anymore, Mother," she assured her.
Only then did Charlotte’s stern expression relax into a smile again. She now had a new mission, bringing Harlow and Alanis close again. If she played her cards right, she would have her great-grandchildren soon enough.
Her granddaughter-in-law was not just beautiful but incredibly smart. In less than three months as CEO, she had made business decisions that took their company to new heights. Charlotte could only imagine how remarkable Harlow’s children would be.
"Have you eaten?" she asked, shifting the conversation. "Come, I asked the servants to prepare something special for you."
Without waiting for an answer, Charlotte took Harlow’s hand and led her into the mansion, pointedly ignoring Alanis.

A week has passed since Harlow’s speech and Elisa’s threat to Frank. And just as she had promised, she had returned to take what was hers with none other than Claudia and Bodhi.
It seems they didn’t even need to poison the man to get everything from him. Right now, Frank was even more useless than Bodhi. He no longer has anything to his name.
It’s ironic to see how badly Frank Blackwood had fallen. For a man that used to be the richest in the world, to a mere begged now. Frank no longer had anything to his name except for the little estates and lands he had acquired while he still had his money.
Even if Harlow had suggested he made a few investments with his money, he always waved her ideas off like they didn’t matter while spending unnecessarily on Elisa and her daughter.
"Elisa don’t do this to me, please. I told you I’m still working on getting the company back from Harlow." Frank held the rim of her dress as he fell to his knees, begging his dear wife not to leave him.
The maids around stared at their master and madam warily. Never in their life did they think, their boss Frank Blackwood would one day lose all of his money including his wife and children.
Frank had tried reaching out to Harlow but for some reason, he couldn’t.
It was because Alanis had blocked all forms of communication between his wife and Frank. He didn’t want anyone disturbing or threatening her. Not when he’s alive, not this time.
He would protect Harlow with everything he’s got.
"You can’t do this to me, Elisa, I told you to give me more time, I promise to give you and Claudia a comfortable life." Frank cried out.
He couldn’t lose the most important people to him now because of that stupid daughter of his. This was all of his mistake, he should have known this was Harlow’s plan all along. It was her plan to divide their family and take everything he owned.
But he’ll make sure she pays. He’ll make sure she pays for the pain she’s caused him. "Bodhi, please help me beg her." He turned to his best friend who had arrived with Elisa and Claudia. Bodhi had informed him about Elisa crashing in this house for a few days now.
"Don’t bother Frank. I and my daughter do not need your help to get the life we deserve." Elisa spat. "Sign the papers Frank, we’re done. The least you can do now is give me 80% of everything you own for even stressing me." She said.
She knew her percentage was hilarious but Frank caused this to himself. If he hadn’t loved her blindly, she would never have so much control over him. Elisa now has control of more than half of his assets and everything. And Frank, he was left with nothing.
In all her life, she has never seen a man more stupid than Frank. For someone who claimed to be all rich and powerful, he sure was a fool.
"Claudia." Frank turned to his daughter.
"Claudia tell your mother to reconsider. You both know I love you two so much and would do anything for you. You’re the only family I have." He said desperately.
"I don’t care if you two take everything I own, but don’t leave me like this. I have no one else. Nothing else..." Frank cried. He was heartbroken, even if the world decided to turn its back on him, Elisa and Claudia were the two people he didn’t expect to leave him to.
"Stop your nonsense now Frank and stop harassing my daughter. We are over." Elisa spat. "Now sign the papers before I make you do so." She said.
Claudia knew this was the best decision. After all, Frank was never her real father, to begin with, and the only reason she had wanted to stay with him was because of his money. The same money he didn’t have anymore.
"Mother is right father. You’re useless now. You can’t do anything for us." Claudia said shocking the man before her.
"I have provided for you and your mother while I had money. Every day I spent millions on you two while I did nothing for Harlow, and this is how you want to repay me?" He asked feeling a certain ache in his chest. He couldn’t believe the two people he trusted the most in this world would betray him this much. freewebnoveℓ.com
"Nonsense!" Elisa barked. "It is your responsibility to take care of me and my daughter Frank and since you cannot anymore we’re leaving." She said.
"Claudia you are my daughter do not forget that. It doesn’t matter if I’m poor now, you’ll always be my child. You can’t abandon your father like this."
"Let me correct you now my dear friend." Bodhi chimed. "I’ve let you claim my child for so long and I can’t take it anymore." He said.
"What are you doing?" Claudia cut Bodhi before he could speak any further.
"It’s alright Claudia, he is useless. There’s nothing he can do now." Bodhi said.
"Claudia is my child. She is my daughter, not yours."
