Frank’s confession only added fuel to the fire.
If people had hesitated before, now there was no mercy. They had been unsure of the truth, but with Frank’s words confirming everything, the world turned against Claudia and Elisa.
They were cursed, mocked, and ridiculed.
Many believed they deserved to rot in prison.
Later that day, Bodhi arrived back at the prison to relay news to Elisa. He had been working non-stop, digging through legal documents, searching for a way out. But if there was one thing he had learned, it was that Harlow was not playing games.
She wanted Elisa destroyed.
And in Bodhi’s eyes, she had already succeeded in more ways than one.
He had warned Elisa before. Never underestimate Harlow. That girl was more dangerous that she oose to be.
But Elisa never listened.
Now, she was paying the price.
"Bodhi." Elisa gripped the cold iron bars tightly, her eyes burning with desperation. She had been waiting for his return all day.
Bodhi exhaled, rubbing his temple.
"I’m sorry, Elisa," he started, his voice unusually firm. "But the property we took from Frank... it never belonged to him."
Elisa frowned. "What?"
Did Frank steal those things? And now he was trying to pin it all on her?
"The prison guards only gave me three minutes, but I bribed them for five. So listen carefully," Bodhi said, his tone urgent.
"Frank bought everything he owns in his late wife’s name. Her next of kin is Harlow. So everything you thought you had? It belongs to her. Which means your property papers are invalid, and legally... you were trespassing on Harlow’s estate."
Elisa’s hands trembled against the bars.
Claudia’s jaw nearly hit the floor.
Garth, standing nearby, clenched her fists. He had never liked how things were unfolding. Now it made sense.
Alanis had left everything to Harlow. And now, Frank had done the same. Which meant Harlow now controlled both families.
Elisa’s face twisted in disbelief.
She had been married to Frank for over twenty years, and never once had she checked whose name his properties were under.
How would she have known he had bought everything under that woman’s name?
A bitter smile curled at her lips.
Even in death, that woman was still haunting her.
Claudia, equally stunned, tried to make sense of it all. In her past life, she had never checked for such details. Harlow had been too naive, too trusting. It had been easy to steal from her.
But things were different now.
Harlow was different.
Claudia swallowed hard. "So what does this mean?"
Bodhi’s expression turned grim. "It means your mother is truly going to stay in prison for a long time if Frank moves forward with the fraud charges."
And he would.
They had forced him to sign those papers. Even if they denied it, there were witnesses. The butler had seen it. The maids had seen it.
And even if they managed to bribe the maids into silence, there were hidden cameras all over the Blackwood mansion. Bodhi was sure Elisa had not been smart enough to wipe the data.
Harlow had already sent security to guard the mansion. There was no way they were getting in.
Silence stretched between them before Elisa finally spoke.
Her voice was eerily calm.
"I need a favor from you, Bodhi."
Bodhi met her gaze. "What is it? Whatever you need, I’ll do it."
Elisa leaned closer, her eyes cold and calculating.
"If I don’t get out of here... if Harlow wins... I want you to kill her for me."
Her voice was deadly. "Make it slow. Make it painful."
.
.
Morning sunlight streamed into Harlow’s room, warming her skin.
As always, the scent of fresh roses filled the air. She stretched lazily, breathing in the floral fragrance.
Every morning, Alanis filled her room with roses. But where did they go afterward?
Did the maids throw them out? Or did they give them away? It would be a shame to waste such beautiful flowers. She picked a black rose and inhaled it’s scent.
And then, a deep, familiar voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Good morning, my villain." A smile played at Harlow’s lips.
When had Alanis started making her feel this way?
When had his presence become so comforting?
When had she fallen for him again?
"How was your night?" he asked, watching her closely.
"Wonderful," she murmured.
Alanis leaned against the doorframe, a smirk tugging at his lips. "I asked for breakfast in bed, but Grandma and your father insisted we eat together."
Harlow nodded and was about to climb out of bed when she suddenly remembered something.
Her stepmother.
She had meant to wake up early and deal with them. She reached for her phone, but before she could grab it...
Alanis snatched it away.
"You’ve done enough," he said, switching it off.
Harlow frowned. "But..."
"No buts, villain." His voice was firm. "You’re off the case. That’s final."
Her eyes narrowed. "You know I still need to help Father handle things."
"Leave that to me," Alanis said, stepping closer. "From now on, whatever you want, I’ll take care of it."
His gaze softened. "I’m tired of always losing you to others." He began, but his words made her heart skip a beat.
"I want to be selfish this time my villian," he admitted. "I want you all to myself. I’m the only one you can give all of your attention to. Just me." He leaned closer, his lips lightly brushing against hers and for some reason. His wife didn’t hit him or push him away.
Harlow didn’t fight or argue with him because she knew arguing with Alanis was pointless. He never backed down.
"Fine," she sighed surprising him. If he wants her off the case, she would let it go, but he better now fumble this case.
"Good," he said, satisfied. "Cancel all your plans for next week. I’m taking you somewhere important."
She arched a brow but didn’t argue.
"And as for the arrest, I already took care of it," he continued.
"Both our families are in police custody. Your father has officially accused Elisa of fraud, and he’s working with his lawyers to bring her down."
Harlow nodded, absorbing the information. Claudia had barely escaped this time.
But it didn’t matter.
Because the next trap Harlow set for her, she wouldn’t escape.
"Alright then," she said, sliding out of bed. "Let’s go eat."
