After breakfast that morning, Alanis watched as Harlow moved through the fields just as she had planned. Her sunflower-printed dress fluttered with the breeze, the fabric flowing around her as if it were part of the wind itself. Her sun hat nearly slipped from her hair as she ran, but she caught it just in time, laughing softly to herself.
Alanis sat on their picnic mat, sipping from his glass of wine as he watched her. The sunlight painted her skin with a golden glow, her joy almost tangible in the crisp morning air. This, this moment was everything Harlow had ever dreamed of and more.
To her, these weren’t just fields. They were the embodiment of her romance fantasies, the ones she had only ever imagined in books and daydreams. Running through the fields, arms outstretched, heart full, this was the kind of love story she had always longed for. But never, not even in a million years, had she imagined she would be living it with *this* man.
Alanis had brought her here himself, knowing exactly what it would mean to her. He had given her this moment, this dream turned reality.
She turned to look at him, a soft smile curving her lips.
Her heart felt warm. It felt heavy. Her breath came fast, and her pulse raced. As she stared at him, she saw him gesture toward her, his fingers moving in a commanding yet teasing way, silently calling her back to him. Without a second thought, Harlow ran to him.
Alanis had never known his wife had such a playful side. Who would have believed that the bossy, sharp-tongued woman he was married to could be this carefree?
"What is it?" Harlow asked, slightly breathless from running. Today was only the first day of her vacation with Alanis, and she was already having so much fun. The fields were so beautiful that she wished to live in this place
"Don’t wander too far," Alanis said. "The land ahead isn’t ours, and the owners aren’t exactly... people-friendly."
Harlow blinked, suddenly curious. Not ours?
She glanced at the field again, then back at him moving the few strands of hair that covered her eyes to the back of her ear. A thought crept into her mind immediately as she stared at him. Did Alanis... buy this land?
Her heart pounded as she tried to find the right words. "D... Did you buy this field?" she finally asked, needing to be sure he hadn’t done something completely reckless.
Alanis only hummed in response, a low, careless sound, as if buying this land was nothing worth mentioning. She wanted a field to relive her fantasies and he did just that. Harlow’s eyes widened. Where the hell did he even get the money for this?
"Come," Alanis said, tapping the picnic mat beside him. "Sit with me, my villain. Let’s enjoy the view together."
She dropped down beside him, still eyeing him suspiciously. Reaching for the almost-empty wine glass next to him, she barely got her fingers around it before Alanis snatched it away.
She watched, stunned, as he drank the remaining wine in one go. He wiped his lips lazily with the back of his hand and smacked them together, looking completely unbothered but her stare.
Harlow’s mouth fell open. "What have you done?" she burst out.
Alanis lifted a brow. "What have I done?" His voice was infuriatingly innocent, and it only aggravated her more. She hated that he was acting like he didn’t know she wanted to wine first. She has reached for it first but he had been smarter.
Harlow wanted to strangle him. She really wanted to strangle him. But she held back. She would never give him the satisfaction. Besides, she knew that if she touched him, it would only encourage him to be even more annoying.
He would increase her punishement for some reason and never let her free again.
Taking a deep breath, she gritted out, "You knew I wanted to drink that wine."
"You did?" Alanis blinked at her, feigning cluelessness.
She clenched her fists. She was thirsty. Her throat had turned dry from all that running, and this monster couldn’t even show an ounce of sympathy.
"Did you bring me here just to kill me, Alanis?" she snapped, her voice rising.
"If you wanted water, you could have just said so." He said like a wronged child and Harlow scoffed. She has never seen a man this size act so childish.
Alanis poured the last bit of wine into the glass again, and Harlow immediately lowered herself to receive it. Stupid fool’, she cursed inwardly.
But what Alanis did next made her freeze.
"It’s too bad we only have one glass," he mused, clicking his tongue. "And this is the last wine we have. Whatever shall we do?"
Harlow narrowed her eyes. He better not do what she think he’s going to do.
This man claimed to love her, yet he was the most heartless person she had ever met. This wasn’t how to love someone!
If this was his definition of love, then she didn’t want it.
"You give it to me," she said flatly, just in case he had somehow forgotten she was the one who needed it.
"But I’m thirsty too," Alanis said, chuckling when he saw her glare.
"How cute," he added, amused.
Before she could argue, he tilted his head. "Alright, since you’re so thirsty..."
Harlow’s breath caught as Alanis lifted the glass, but instead of handing it to her, he drank it all himself.
Her eyes widened in horror. "You—!"
Before she could yell, Alanis pinned her down, his body pressing lightly against hers as he leaned in. Before she could process what was happening, warm liquid filled her mouth.
He was feeding her the wine.
Harlow gasped, her eyes widening even more. A few drops slipped from the corner of her lips, and before they could escape, Alanis caught them with his tongue.
Her heart nearly stopped. She didn’t need HBP to do the job. This man and his silly acts could already give her a heart attack.
"Do you want more?" His voice was low, teasing.
Harlow’s mouth was open, but no words came out.
