Harlow picked the bigger ring and placed it gently in Alanis’s hands. She had no idea why this man was this dramatic. He could have purchased it privately and given it to her, but that’s not so very Alanis. He loved grand things. He loved to get the world involved in their lives.

As both people stepped out of the room, Brenda rushed towards them.

"But it’s strange to call you by your names now. I think I’ll stick to the Ah, I used to call you." She winked.

"Where is Brian?" Harlow asked her eyes scampered around the shop as if to find him.

"Oh, he said he had something urgent to attend to and just left," Brenda said.

"He left you behind?" Harlow asked with fake concern.
