The sweet aroma of freshly baked pancakes moved to Alex’s nostrils. The little boy smacked his lips, staring at his parents who had barely spoken to each other. Both people avoided each other’s gaze and he wondered if they acted this way because of him.
He had contacted his daddy intending to bring the family together again, but it seems his little plans didn’t work at all.
Their hatred for each other made him sad. His green eyes moved to the other children having fun with their parents and when he looked at his. The little boy sighed.
If he wanted his mummy and daddy together, he would need to put in much effort.
Alex tugged his mother’s sleeve as he pointed at the baked pancakes in the corner. His action caused Alanis to look too.
"You want that?" Harlow asked sweetly and he nodded.
"Alright let’s get it." She said.
Coming to the amusement park with Alanis was the last thing Harlow had expected this week. But it wasn’t close to seeing him in her mansion.
Though till this day, Lia hadn’t confessed to telling Alanis about their whereabouts, and for some reason, she believed her sister-in-law.
But how did he come to find them?
How did Alanis find them?
She had wanted to ask, but talking to him was the last thing she wanted to do. She should stay away from him to avoid certain things.
It’s been a week since Alanis started living with them, and though he had done nothing stupid, and had followed all of her rules, she still didn’t trust him.
"Come here." Alanis lifted his son and placed him on his shoulders as they walked to the pancake store.
"Hello." Harlow greeted the woman in charge with a smile and the woman smiled back.
"Oh, what a lovely couple. How many pancakes do you want dear?" The woman asked.
"Three," Alanis said. "You’ve paid for everything, let me handle this one." Harlow could feel her heart flutter at his words.
Come on, he didn’t even do anything to make her feel this way. Of course, the feelings she thought she had buried a long time ago had resurfaced the more she saw this man. But this time, she cannot let her heart win.
"What decorations do you have in mind?" The woman asked.
"I want a lion curb, give daddy and lion head, and mummy a lioness," Alex said excitedly his little hands on his father’s hair for support even if Alanis held his legs. Alanis chuckled.
"Do as he said," Alanis said to the woman and she went ahead to decorate the top of their cupcake. Once they had gotten their cupcakes, the trio continued their stroll as they looked for the next event to join.
Alex but into his cupcake, his tongue bursting with flavors as he devoured it. Harlow did the same, the icing staining her lips and before she could clean it off, Alanis had already wiped it with his thumb.
He deepened his hands into his mouth without thinking. "You got the icing all over your face." Shocked Harlow stared at him in stunned silence.
She opened her mouth to speak and, "Look, Daddy." Alex pointed at a corner. "I want the paint on my face." He said.
"Anything for you my little man." Alanis started walking away and Harlow followed suit. She tried hard to calm her beating heart. That was nothing, he was only being nice.
This was typical Alanis, always looking out for her.
When they reached the painting place, they were greeted by other parents and a few children getting their faces designed. Most had flowers drawn on their faces and others had animals drawn on their faces.
They walked up to the man who looked like he was done painting another child’s face.
"Hey uncle, I want to get my face painted," Alex said as his father placed him by his neck.
"What animal do you want?" The man asked. He looked slender, with multiple tattoos on his body.
Alex sat on the little chair before him as he waited for his face to get painted.
"What design do you want big man?" The man asked.
"Anything. Surprise me." He said for everyone around to smile. The man started painting and when he was done, Alex loved the result of it. He looked like he wore a cat mask on his face.
"Wow, it’s so beautiful." Harlow squats to his level.
"You think so mummy?" He asked then turned to his father. "How about you daddy, what do you think?" He asked.
"You’re as good looking as your father," Alanis said proudly and Harlow almost scoffed. He just couldn’t wait to praise himself, could he?
Alex smiled feeling so proud but the man whose shoulder he sat on felt even more proud. He has fulfilled his one wish of his past life.
After many months of begging him to take him to the amusement park, Alanis had turned a blind eye to his son back then and had lost him terribly.
In this life, he would make up for everything he hadn’t given him in the past. He would give Alex his time, and every other thing he wished for.
Their final task for the day was the joy ride. Alanis paid for their ride and the trio got on it. Alex sat between his parents, this is all he has ever wanted. A family where his parents would be together.
The ride began with Harlow and Alex screaming their lungs out and Alanis watching them closely. Once the ride was over the trio stepped out of the ride to get their captured photos.
Harlow blushed at how hideous she looked. "How embarrassing." She muttered unable to look at how wife her mouth had expanded as she screamed.
"There’s nothing embarrassing. It’s not that bad." Alanis pursed his lips together when she glared at him.
"I’ll hold onto that." Harlow snatched the photos from him and placed them in her purse.
"Mummy, I’m tired," Alex said for Alanis to pick him up. He was indeed tired as they were exhausted too, they had spent all day at the park because of Alex.
