Chapter 118: 117. Four Dark Horses (2)

The next night I was at Ryujin mansion with Lyall by my side and my communication brooch in front of me on the desk.

"It’s time for the first team to go ahead, Master." Lyall informed and I nodded.

I placed my elbows on the desk with my fingers steepled in front of me. I had explained the plan two to three times to the boys and had given them thorough instructions about what to do if any anamoly arises. My assassins were in their positions and the plan was set into motion, now all I had to do was wait. The most difficult part.

I closed my eyes and tried to calm my tumultuous thoughts as I waited.

The plan was the cut off the major three establishments owned by Douglas Clark and a special place which was a tad bit more dangerous than the other three.

A casino which was in the downtown part concealed well behind the market place. It was a place to lure in the unsuspecting noble kids, show them the glamour of twinkling money and then as soon as they take the bait sending them into the spiral of gambling from where it was impossible to get out.

On the surface it was a place which was owned by a Count but only those who were insiders knew that this establishment originally belonged to Douglas. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Derrick was stationed at the casino, his mission was to win as much as he could with cheating so that he could be called up by the superiors of the casino and from there after making them inhale the sleeping gas he would steal the documents that I had told him to.

The second place was, the underground auction which was going to happen in the black market of the Herot city. It wasn’t quite far from here but unlike Izkar this place was above ground and attracted a lot of nobles from all over the kingdom.

Nobody knew that Douglas was the one who managed this black market except for the exclusive people. He usually sold the slaves and the expensive items here illegally. It was said that the thing that you possibly couldn’t find in the world you could find it here.

Luke was here, he was going to disguise as a buyer and then go in and investigate the things, for him only two wouldn’t be enough so, I had prepared a battalion of knights belonging to Ryujin family to run the place down as soon as we got a signal.

The next place was Eden itself, the place where it all started. I had gotten the layout and the blueprints of the administrative offices inside and also the location of where the records of their corruption could be found.

Ralph was assigned to go there, it wasn’t a hard task but not that easy as well as he had to complete the task within the time limit and find as many records as possible.

The last and the trickiest place was Douglas’s house. It was guarded very heavily by his knights, apart from the fact that he himself was quite a strong mage.

Rune was going to be here, he had to sneak into Douglas’s study and find the documents about the thing that I told him about. The information that could easily bring him to the guillotine.

Rune was even more surprised when he heard of the information I told him to retrieve.

His Majesty Roger Vous Ferin Marismus, the present King was said to be throned after the sudden death of his father His Majesty Rigver. The death had happened due to heart attack or that’s what everyone thought but what really happened was a great conspiracy.

At first Roger’s older brother Soros was going to be the King but Katherine who was dreaming to be the Queen was engaged to Roger and Soros was already married with no kids.

At that time, to achieve her goal she and her cousin brother Douglas had made a plan, a plan to make sure that Roger ascended the throne and for Katherine to be the Queen.

The plan was simple, they had imported a special slow poison and had bribed the servant closest of the King to give him on daily basis. The Queen wasn’t in picture so, there was no need to worry about her.

With time, Rigver’s condition deteriorated but what drove him to heart attack was the news that his son Soros and his wife had passed away in a carriage accident.

Katherine’s plan was successful, Roger became the King and Katherine was the Queen.

The reason why Douglas was so influential and close to the Queen was because he was still holding onto the evidence from that time. The evidence that he could use if Katherine ever thought of turning her back on him.

Now, that evidence would act as a freeway pass to get Douglas out of the picture and also for the Queen to know that she has an opponent who held her weakness in their hands.

Rune’s mission was the hardest because it was obvious that Douglas would have hidden those evidences well. I had my best spies infiltrate that place and search for the evidence but the information that they returned with was that there was a secret locker of sorts where only Douglas went.

My spies saw the place and also made the layout of where it is and how to enter but they couldn’t enter themselves.

I was glad that I had given Rune the special devices and also had the Team B on standby close to the mansion.

"Are you worried about them, Master?" Lyall asked and I noticed that I was tapping my foot.

"A little. There’s always space for worst case scenario." I mumbled.

"Please don’t be negative, Master. I’m sure all the Young Masters will fulfill their mission successfully." Lyall assured me and I sighed.

I looked at the communication brooch waiting impatiently before I crossed my arms over the desk before placing my chin on my hands.

I was worried about Rune and Luke, Ralph and Derrick were still in spots where they could escape easily but, for Rune and Luke things were different. The tides could easily turn.

"Master!"

"Master!" I heard the sound from the communication brooch and I straightened up.

It was Derrick.

"Mission complete!" He called.

"I’ve got the evidence, Whoa! Oi, put me down!"

"Master!" I heard a familiar voice and smiled as I recalled her being on Team B for this mission.

"Yes, Burglar come back with him." I replied.

"Yay!"

I chuckled a little before I sighed, "One down, three more to go."

I looked at the clock on the wall it was already past 2 in the morning and the mission started at dot midnight. Within an hour Derrick was done with his task successfully without any problem. The mission’s time limit was five in the morning of the time limit extended by any way then I would have to step in myself.

After around forty minutes, Derrick was in my study with his helpers and I was smothered by Burglar, or the girl named Nora.

"Will you stop hugging me, Nora?" I asked and she shook her head.

"No way! You were gone for nearly three months, Master. How could you leave us there?! I wanna be by your side all the time now!"

I sighed and let her be noticing Lyall giving her a cold stare.

Another few minutes passed by, and I heard Ralph’s delighted cry shatter the silence of my study.

"Master, found it! Found it!" Ralph shouted.

"You have to call Mission Complete." Someone corrected him from the background.

"Mi-Mission complete! Mission complete!"

"Good, come back now." I responded and I sighed with relief.

I looked at the clock and looked at Derrick who sat in the chair looking just as worried.

"You did a great work, Derrick." I said as I looked at the documents about Douglas’s private affairs and his business deals with the other sponsors were sitting in front of me.

"It was a bit hard to knock all of those people unconscious, if it weren’t for them I might have failed." Derrick said gesturing at the two who were behind him.

"Good work, you two as well." I smiled and the two looked relieved.

After a few minutes, Ralph nearly broke through the window of my study carried by Cook.

"Pu-Put me down!" Ralph shouted and Cook entered the room after removing the rope that was hooked to his waist band.

"We did it!" Ralph shouted as soon as he entered and placed the documents on my desk.

"Look, look! It has the records of the professors that get bribes from the wealthy nobles who exchange the names on the exam papers to switch the scores of smart students with those wealthy kids!" Ralph explained excitedly and I smiled.

"You did good work, Ralph."

"Derrick! Look, I did it!" Ralph ran over to Derrick and plopped down beside him on the couch.

"Good work, Ralph. Now it’s Luke and Rune who have to return." Derrick said.

"Don’t worry, they’ll be here in no time."

I turned my head and looked at Cook who now stood looking at Nora.

"Will you stop clinging to Master like that? It’s embarrassing." He said.

She simply poked her tongue at him, "Shut it, Cook! You’re just jealous that I can be so close to Master like this."

"Why you..." Cook glared at her and I sighed and spoke up.

"Good work again, Cook."

"Please call me by my name now, Master." He said with a smile.

"Fine, Slater." I smiled back.

I checked the documents that Ralph brought and then looked at the clock and at the communication brooch hoping that the other two would be safely doing their tasks.
