The Kingmaker System-Chapter 132 - 131. Celebrations For Heroes (3)
Chapter 132: 131. Celebrations For Heroes (3)
White and Blue were the signature colors of the Northern territory Frosthail and Montaire family was also dressed in white and blue just like us.
But I guess not a lot of people thought of keeping that subtle symbolism of respect for the guests of honor.
Grand Duke Alarice walked with perfect grace and a confident gait with his wife Grand Duchess Dahlia on his arm walking with equal composure. Behind them walked Davian reflecting his parents’ strength.
I heard he had stepped down from his position as his father had returned and Alarice had taken up his work again alongside his wife.
They passed by and I watched them all the way as they covered the whole path without turning or seeming like they sensed something else.
The device worked.
I sighed with relief and Rune looked at me and then at the Grand Duke’s family.
"They didn’t sense you this time." He said and I brought up my bracelet with a smile.
"I told you, Uncle Silas is a genius."
The King called the attention of everyone as soon as the Grand Duke’s family greeted him and started his speech.
[Goddess of Wisdom praises your creative thinking in regards of your device designs.]
"It’s not really creative thinking. I’ve used and seen such stuff in my past life. These magic ones are just extremely convenient."
I zoned out for the entire speech and ended up having a small talk with my Patrons who also seemed like they didn’t want to listen to the King’s boring speech.
[Giver of Gifts wonders when you will become allies with Davian.]
"Why him?" I asked as my eyes found home on him.
[Giver of Gifts says he is a unique and powerful person who has a lot of potential to be your strongest ally.]
"I can see your point, he’s one of the only three humans who could use aura freely. He will definitely be stronger in future."
His aura was pulsing around him creating the gentle waves that disturbed the air.
[Giver of Gifts adds that he will grow to be even more good-looking.]
"Hm... Right, he will be quite good-looking as well."
I studied his body posture and his boyish face.
After a few minutes, we had to step ahead to greet the Grand Duke’s family. Rune and I glanced at each other as he had held me in between himself and Dad.
Grand Duke looked at us and his eyes lit up in recognition as he saw my father. I couldn’t help but stare at him as soon as we came face to face. This man looked pretty emaciated when I saw him the last time but now that he had recovered his strength and health he was making women swoon.
His jet black hair were swept back in a perfect style and his amethyst eyes glowed with the vibrance of liveliness. His skinny body was now filled with up muscles and mass giving him a good body shape.
"Duke Aurelius." Alarice greeted us with a warm smile while Lady Dahlia was talking to another lady.
"How have you been, Your Highness?" My father asked and I could feel his concern clearly through his tone.
This man would always have a warm and caring heart despite his children being cold-blooded killers.
Alarice’s eyes softened as he answered, "I am well and healthy thanks to a valuable benefactor."
Rune’s eyes traveled to me and I averted my eyes blessing Silas for making such an incredible device for masking Ocean’s presence.
"You must be Rune," Alarice said looking at Rune.
"It’s an honor to meet you, Your Grace." Rune bowed making Alarice chuckle.
"I’ve heard about your accomplishments as well, Rune. I heard all of it was the work of yourself and your three friends without any need of any adult."
Rune smiled as he added, "Well, I won’t take all the credit and even my friends won’t do so because... We also had the support of a benefactor."
This seemed to have caught Davian’s attention as he turned away from the nobles who were suddenly speaking to him in flowery language.
"A... benefactor?" Alarice asked and Rune smiled.
"Yes, a valuable friend of us."
Alarice nodded and then his eyes fell on me, "You must be the little Miss of the Aurelius Duchy."
"My name is Reina, Your Grace. I’ve heard a lot about your great deeds from my brother and father. I’m happy to finally meet you." I curtsied.
"Your name suits your elegance and beauty, Miss Reina." Alarice said and I couldn’t help but stare at his handsome face.
Davian might grow up to be just this handsome or even more. This world would be blessed with more beauty.
"Thank you for such kind words, Your Grace." I managed to reply in time to avoid getting caught oogling at his face.
"This is my son, Davian." He introduced Davian to me and Rune formally.
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Prince Davian."
"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Prince Davian."
Rune and I greeted Davian.
"Likewise, Little Duke and Miss Reina." His eyes lingered on me for a tad bit longer making me wonder if he saw through somehow.
"It’s an honor to be in presence of the heroes that saved the kingdom of Mordino." My father said and Davian looked up at him before he and his father exchanged glances.
"In reality," I saw Lady Dahlia who joined the conversation.
"It wasn’t any of us who really saved Mordino."
This time it was our turn to exchange glances. The story of a Dragon wasn’t a secret but since the Dragon itself was a taboo subject of Sestia so, even though there were eyewitnesses from Sestia who saw it there were disregarded giving all the credit to the Montaire family.
I guess, this family wasn’t going to let that Dragon aka Ocean Ryujin go like that.
"Then... who did?" I asked tentatively hoping that they wouldn’t utter the name Ocean Ryujin.
I didn’t want that identity to be in light at this point.
"It was a Dragon." Lady Dahlia announced.
The word seemed to have attracted the attention from the nearby people who were eavesdropping on us.
"Dragon?"
"Oh, my! Did she just say a Dragon?"
"A real Dragon?"
The people who hadn’t heard also perked up hearing the light commotion that went around and soon there was a whole horde of people standing around us.
"Lady Dahlia is it true... What you said... about a Dragon?" A man asked.
"Yes, it wasn’t only us who helped Mordino. It was in reality the Dragon who defeated the Tyrant and rescued the tormented people."
There was a collective gasp from the people and I was tempted to sigh with relief as she only mentioned Dragon but as the conversation continued she might just slip by.
"But how could a Dragon do that?"
"Dragons are evil, they could never save anyone."
"That’s true."
The people started discussing amongst themselves and I almost rolled my eyes at their deep set prejudice.
"I don’t know about the Dragon that you all are talking about," Alarice spoke up and looked at his family.
"But this particular dragon even saved me and my family, so, it’s not evil."
"Pardon, what?!"
"Yes, it was a benevolent Dragon who descended on Mordino to deliver those people and us from suffering. He was... a good Dragon."
I could see the suspicion and doubt swirling in the eyes of the people who were listening to Alarice. They wouldn’t believe it even when they would see a Dragon saving them so, I guess I shouldn’t expect anything from these people.
"If not for that Dragon then, Mordino and us would be destroyed." Lady Dahlia said placing her one hand around Davian and other around her husband’s arm.
The aghast people exchanged worried glances and soon enough the prominent people also stepped ahead.
"What are you all discussing in such large numbers?" His Majesty Roger stepped up.
"Are you telling them the story about your valour, Grand Duke?" He asked Alarice.
I could see a bitter smile grace his handsome face and then felt slightly bad. He was in that miserable state and from then on he managed to survive and got the credit for saving a country. He might be feeling as if he stole someone’s credentials.
"There was nothing of valour that I did in Mordino, Your Majesty." Alarice said and Roger’s eyebrows twitched.
"Rather, I’m indebted to the one who saved me and my family when we were almost at the brink of death."
"That’s surprising to hear from someone like you, Grand Duke." Roger said.
Alarice still had that bitter smile as he added, "Sadly enough, I was so close to death at that time that... I wouldn’t even have been able to see my family for the last time."
The people around gasped loudly and Lady Dahlia added.
"The same was for me, if it weren’t for him then... I might not have been able to be back here with my family."
"In that case, I would love to meet this person who protected the valuable assets of my Kingdom." Roger said.
Yeah, no, I don’t want to see you just now. Maybe in future, but not now. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Alarice chuckled, "Are you sure, Your Majesty?"
"What do mean?"
"Because the one I am talking of is a Dragon. A real one."
