The Kingmaker System-Chapter 82 - 81. Revolutionary Army (1)
Chapter 82: 81. Revolutionary Army (1)
Lyall was waiting for me at the decided spot with my other team members and Ciro who was supposed to lead us to the place where we had to deliver the package.
"There he is." I heard a voice before I spotted them standing near the alleyway with the shawls covering their bodies and faces.
I yawned as I kept walking while dragging the dead weight of the unconscious Baudir behind me.
Remi silently walked on my other side, he had heard everything even though his eyes were closed and he was praying. After everything was done, I had asked him if he still wished to fight for survival and he had given me the same answer.
"I’d rather die than live like a dog from now on."
Hence, recruited.
"Who is this?" Lyall asked as I reached over to them.
He placed a shawl over my shoulders and he grabbed the weight from my hand and placed it over his shoulder.
"New guy. He’ll be with us from now on." I announced.
The four from my team stared at me before I gestured for them to move.
"Let’s go, the Scorpion’s dogs must have started sniffing around." I said.
"Yes." Lyall had gone back to being polite with me again.
Remi was silent throughout the ordeal as he kept walking beside me while Lyall carried Baudir, the four of my team were behind me with Ciro leading us.
He kept looking back at me as I walked behind him, yawning occasionally.
"Are you tired?" Lyall asked.
"I’m just sleepy." I answered rubbing my tired eyes.
"A-Are you the Master?" Ciro asked hesitantly.
"What makes you think that?" I asked and Lyall turned away with a small smile.
"Are you not?" Burglar asked from behind me, well, she was like a curious cat after all.
"Didn’t you say that your Master will be the one to fulfill this task?" Ciro asked Lyall who didn’t bother to answer.
I yawned again stretching my arms above my head and noticed Remi looking at me from the corner of his eye.
He must have questions regarding this setting but I wasn’t going to answer just yet, he would figure it out on his own anyways.
After a few minutes, we entered the ruins on the outskirts of the capital and Ciro walked inside one particular house. He crouched down and removed the rug that was camouflaged and hiding a door in the ground.
He lifted the trapdoor and looked at us.
"Be careful on your way down."
I saw the staircase which went deeper into the earth and walked in after him with my team in tow.
We kept walking for a few seconds before Ciro stopped. It was complete darkness around which was why it would have been hard for the others to make out where they were. But that wasn’t the case for me and Ciro, for Ciro because he must have gotten used to this place so it was easier to navigate and for me, my senses were good enough to see everything clearly.
Ciro was currently facing a wall before he brought his hand up and banged his fist twice and then once on it.
"Password?" A voice asked from behind the wall making the ones behind me flinch.
"Slaughter the Beast." Ciro said.
I could hear the cogs moving somewhere deep within the walls before the one in front of us started shaking and moving to the side.
What technology did they use to move the walls like this? I got to ask for the blueprints, this would work wonders in my place.
The wall slid aside and we were now facing a tunnel with one man standing in front of us holding a lamp.
No words were exchanged as the man after one look at the party turned and started walking, Ciro gestured us to follow along.
We walked a few more meters ahead and Ciro asked us to mind our footing before we reached in front of another set of doors made of sandstone but had the carvings.
The man raised his hand and banged his fist on the door thrice, paused and then twice and another voice demanded password. freewebnoveℓ.com
"Glory to the Sun of Zeha."
My eyebrows twitched as I heard that. Lyall and I exchanged a look as we both recognised the name.
I knew that the Revolutionary Army was trying to overthrow the current King but they were also trying to resurrect the previous King’s rule, this was news.
The double doors opened and the man gestured us to head inside.
After a few minutes of walking through the labyrinth-like underground tunnel, we reached in front of room which had no door and had the orange light spilling out.
It was a small room with a sandstone table and the flat rocks. There were also burning torches strapped to the walls lighting up the room along with the bowl of fruits that was on the table and copper pitchers along with some glasses. But I didn’t see what I was there for.
"You can eat or drink whatever you want." Ciro said gesturing at the table.
"Where’s your Leader?" I asked him instead.
"Wait here." Ciro said before he walked over and stood near the wall.
My team stood behind me silently seeming too stiff and hesitant to ask anything.
"It’s fine to relax." I told the four who seemed like they were on edge.
Lyall dropped the package down and massaged his shoulder, I removed the shawl that he had placed over my shoulders placing it back in his hand before walking over and taking a seat on the flat rock.
I plucked out the dark blue grapes before popping them into my mouth.
"They’re fine." I mumbled and Lyall walked over and picked up an apple from the bowl before eating.
My hesitant team walked ahead and helped themselves with the fruits and the wine and slowly relaxed while Ciro stood in his place.
"I didn’t expect our Master to be so young." Sniper commented.
"Are you really our Master?" Doctor asked.
"Did you really defeat Mr Kyrell?" Cook asked.
I didn’t bother answering as I popped the silces of orange that Lyall peeled for me.
"Can’t you guys see? If the Swordsman is serving him himself then it’s obvious that he’s our Master." Burglar pointed out making the three men stare at me before they resumed eating.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching us from the door where we had walked in from.
"Our Commander has summoned the Master." I heard a voice and turned to look at the three men who now stood at the door.
I licked my fingertips and plucked some grapes before I stood up Lyall moved along but I patted his shoulder twice pushing him back down.
"Stay, I’ll be back soon."
Two of the men from the doorway walked in and grabbed the arms of Baudir hauling him up, Ciro helped them and I was led out of the room down the winding tunnel again before we reached in front of a door again.
This time there was no need for any special knock or password as the doors opened revealing again the sandstone table and the flat rocks for seats.
The three escorts sent to guide me gestured for me to go in and I walked over and took a seat on the rock with my back facing the door, waiting for the Commander as I popped the grapes into my mouth one by one.
A few seconds later, I heard the footsteps behind me before I saw the shadow emerge from my side and then the person.
I cocked my brow as I saw a tall woman standing in front of me now, her red hair were cropped short and her sunburnt skin was covered in scars. She was missing her right arm and her left eye was covered by a leather eyepatch.
Her single green eye stared at me with the ferocity of a tigeress and I couldn’t help but keep looking at her as her energy clashed with mine. She gracefully took a seat in front of me all the while looking at me with the concealed expression of sizing me up.
"Are you the Master of the outsider organisation?" She asked.
Even her voice seemed to be made of steel.
"Yes." I answered.
Her eyes lingered on my face but instead of the usual charmed expressions that I saw this one seemed to be trying to decipher something.
"What is your motive?" She asked.
"I was expecting the Leader of the Revolutionary Army not the commander." I said instead of answering her.
Her eyebrows twitched but she showed no sign other than that.
"I am the Leader of the Revolutionary Army."
"Lies don’t work on me."
Her eye blazed even more ferociously and I could feel the air around us charging with energy.
"If you are not going to bring the Leader then give me a reason of why you made me go through the trouble of putting up with your test?" I asked as I popped another grape into my mouth.
"It was a request." She corrected.
"Nice wording." I said as I popped another grape into my mouth and then turned to look at Baudir who was still knocked out with bruises and blood smeared across his body.
I had broken his legs and smashed his body to the point that he was living but every movement and every breath would be torturous for him. Apart from his body, the only thing that I had left intact was his face for recognition.
"You wanted him alive so, I broke every other system of his body." I informed.
"I have no intention of harming your motives but it will surely harm your reputation among the people if an outsider went and killed the Tyrant. It will take away your glory and your influence." I explained.
"Our Leader cannot come before you but since you have gained our trust and we have decided to support your cause." The Commander finally said and I looked back at her as she sat with her back straight and face blank.
"I may have gained your trust but your side is yet to gain mine."
Her lips grew tight in a firm line before she asked.
"What do you want?"
I smiled as I leaned ahead placing my elbows on the sandstone while cradling my chin into my palms.
"Negotiation."
"What kind of negotiation?"
"You have no idea of what’s going on beyond the walls of Mordino, do you?" I asked.
Her eyebrows scrunched as she asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Mordino is going to be in the state of war soon."
"You mean civil war." She prompted and I clicked my tongue shaking my head as I announced.
"No, by a war, I mean a war. A full fledged war."
