Chapter 81: 80. Gaining Trust (3)

The wait for the auction wasn’t quite long but unlike me the other kids who were going to be sold were extremely terrified and trembling. The atmosphere around was a tad bit unsettling but it was going to be fine, in a few minutes’ time they would be free.

But what after that?

Even if they were free now they would still face the same problem that they did before they were sold here.

Still, I couldn’t do anything about that for now, every person had their own share of trouble to face. Those troubles acted like life lessons and I was no one to stop a person from growing strong.

"Argh, these brats!"

"Stay still!"

I looked at a certain bunch of kids who were recieving special attention from the guards as they were creating a lot of commotion and fighting back with all might even after being chained up.

"Who are they?" I asked Remi.

"Those are... probably the children from the bandit clans that live outside of Mordino." He answered looking at the kids and my eyebrows twitched.

Bandit kids?

Then that day the fire was purposely made to kidnap kids?

My hands were suddenly itching to teach these greedy bastards a good and painful lesson.

"They usually kidnap the beggar kids as well, or the homeless people..." Remi added in a low, morose voice.

"That’s too bad." I mumbled.

After an hour or so, it was midnight and suddenly the guards started rushing and I could feel the presence of more people starting to gather behind the other door.

The auction was starting.

This was something that I had ran away from just about a year ago when I was kidnapped by Count Stanson. It almost felt like a deja vu sitting in the midst of all these people.

But for those people, they were now having a good life in my town and these people around me would also get it once I was done with my mission here.

A large man dressed in heavy ornaments and clean clothes suddenly walked in the room from the other door and looked around the huddled figures.

"Hm, it’s a good number this time. I’ll get a good profit." His double chin wobbled as he spoke and I could practically see his eyes glowing at the anticipation of money.

Too bad for him, he had no idea what future held for him.

This was also our target, the person who managed three ministries of Mordino kingdom. The ministry of labor, trade and commerce, and health and welfare. Baudir Ferhalil.

Quite ironic that this guy who handled health and welfare was also a slave trader.

Remi crouched close to my side and I looked at him before looking up at Baudir. His eyes were fixed on me and Remi.

I could see hear the cogs turning in his head.

"Separate these two and bring all the others to the auction." He ordered pointing at me and Remi.

The guards grabbed our arms and Remi started crying and I started protesting weakly as the guards dragged us back and the others were made to stand in a line.

"Kill me! Please kill me instead!" Remi shouted and I could see Baudir smirking.

Remi was still shouting and panicking frantically as we were being dragged away.

One of the guards who had a large baton in his hand raised it to hit Remi. Instinctively, I ended up grabbing Remi and felt the slight impact on my back, since I had the Dragon’s strength I didn’t feel any pain but I screamed regardless.

"Stay down!" The guard shouted and Remi started at me with wide eyes.

The guards pushed me and Remi inside a large cage and Remi continued slamming hands against the metal bars and he wailed and shouted but none of it was making any use.

He then turned to me with bloodshot eyes and quivering lips.

"Wh-Why did you do that?" He sniffled and I sighed.

"There’s no point in resisting now. We’re doomed." I spoke.

Yeah, not.

Remi’s shoulders slumped and he silently wept as he curled himself up in the small cage.

I couldn’t help but recall the time when I had first met the elves and the dwarf kids who were also trapped inside the cages like this in Izkar.

"Talk about freaky coincidence." I mumbled.

I was relaxed and waiting for the signal that my team would give from the auction house. I had instructed them to act as the buyers and intrude the place and then go on a rampage as they found suitable.

Lyall was also on standby ready to act when the signal went off.

The plan was simple, I had handed my four team members each two magic bombs that Silas had made and they had to find a good way of setting it off and create a chaos. That way, they would get enough time to do their work and walk out without getting caught.

I sat patiently and started thinking of other things when I heard Remi mumbling.

"What did I ever do to be in this place?" He sniffled.

"Was it my mistake that mother and father died? I don’t even know how they looked... Why am I the only one who’s like this..."

I couldn’t help but keep looking at the miserable boy, he was almost the same age as Rune so, I couldn’t help but start to feel even more uneasy.

"Lynx?" Remi suddenly called and I looked at him.

"Do-Do you think that if I prayed hard enough then... then the God will save me?"

"You can try." I answered, unable to give any clear consolation.

In a sense, God had heard him. He was with me and that was enough guarantee that he would be getting out of this place but I couldn’t be sure after that.

"What will you do after you get out of this place though? You can’t go back, your Uncle will bring you here again."

Remi wiped his tears, "I won’t go back to my trashy Uncle once I get out of here."

"Then?"

"I... I will join the Revolutionary Army. I will fight for the independence of Mordino." He announced and I couldn’t help but smile.

Was this God’s way of entertaining me? Or was it His way of showing mercy to this guy?

Either way, it was working.

"Are you sure?" I asked and Remi nodded.

"I’d rather die for a cause then live like a dog!"

I smiled and reached out to touch his shoulder.

"Then pray. Pray for the God to give you strength to hold on." I said.

Remi stared at me for a moment and clasped his hands together at his chest and closed his eyes.

Just as he started praying the sound of explosion and cries blew from behind the doors and I could feel the chaotic energy taking over as the shockwave made the walls tremble.

"Wha..." Remi gasped as he opened his eyes and stared in the direction of the auction house.

"Pray, Remi. God is listening." I spoke and Remi looked once at me before he closed his eyes again and resumed praying.

The doors suddenly flew open and the kids and girls who were earlier sent outside started running back inside the room.

I had instructed Lyall and my team to bring these victims out safely and only take out the buyers and sellers except for our target.

Behind the victims, the guards also rushed in trying to stop them from fleeing but my loyal attendant rushed in right on time.

I sat in my cage watching the carnage while Remi sat beside me with his eyes closed and hands clasped, praying earnestly.

After taking out all the guards, Lyall turned to me, I gestured for him to leave pointing at the trembling kids and girls who were clustered in a corner staring at Lyall with fearful eyes.

He nodded without any word and led the kids out while I waited for my target.

Now that all had been taken care of we could pick the parcel.

Just after a few seconds, Baudir ran inside followed by three huge men and looked at the carnage inside.

"Wha-What happened here?! Where are those slaves?!" He shouted and then looked at me and Remi.

"Good, at least these two are here. Hurry and grab them. We need to get to the palace." Baudir barked and the men moved towards us.

"Damn those Revolutionary Army bugs! Why is His Highness not getting rid of them?"

"Get out!"

One of the henchman reached out to grab Remi when I gripped his wrist.

"Why you-"

He grimaced but I activated my Dragon’s Presence using full pressure on him and the other two.

The three staggered back and fell on the ground gasping and writhing.

With the meditation and breathing exercises that I had been doing for the past month, my Dragon’s Presence had evolved so much that it now equalled to the wave that was capable of destruction on its own. By now the fragile internal system inside the bodies of the henchmen would have been destroyed and they would die in a few minutes.

"What are you doing? Hurry and grab them!" Baudir shouted.

I pushed the metal bars of the cage away without any effort and broke it apart before stepping out.

Baudir stared at me as I now stood in front of him.

"Y-You, what are you?! Are you from the Revolutionary Army?"

God had gifted one exceptional power to all the creatures that was called intuition or sixth sense. And unmistakably this sense was also able to detect when the danger was near especially in case of when the predator was close.

"No, I was called here by the power of prayer."

"P-Power of prayer?" Baudir scowled and picked up a sword from the fallen guard’s side.

"Wha-What are you?" He demanded and I took my steps towards him.

"I’m the ultimate predator."
