The Kingmaker System-Chapter 84 - 83. Revolutionary Army (3)
Chapter 84: 83. Revolutionary Army (3)
Lyall picked up the glass of wine before taking a sip and I poked at the Sniper’s side making him giggle in sleep.
"I have been close to death countless times, but I’ve never been a part of any war before." Lyall spoke up making me turn my attention to him.
"Are you scared?" I asked.
"No, I’m just curious. I haven’t seen you fight in a while but for some reason, I feel like you have grown stronger. I’m eager to see you in battle."
I smirked at his words, "My case aside, but I’m sure that you have grown stronger."
A small smile tugged over his lips before I recalled something.
"Besides, there’s one more thing," I said making him look at me.
"Yes?"
"You will be the first attendant in history who sold his Master as a slave." I laughed making his cheeks go red.
"B-B-But that was the plan, Master."
"Swordsman!" I heard Sniper shouting behind me and I turned to see him staggering to his feet before walking up to Lyall and grabbing his tunic.
"You punk! How dare you sell our valiant and beautiful Master?!" He shouted making me laugh even more.
"Who made you second-in-command?! You audacious little-"
Lyall swung his hand smacking the drunk Sniper unconscious before he tossed him in the line beside the asleep drunks and then looked at me.
"I’m sorry, Master!" He hung his head.
I patted his head a little while chuckling, "I’m just teasing you, don’t worry. Take some rest for now. This plan worked out because of you guys." I said making him visibly relax.
Lyall released a deep sigh before he placed his head down on the table closing his eyes.
"It must all be a little straining, right Remi?" I asked and the said boy flinched.
"Yes? No!"
I smiled, "Your prayers worked."
His eyes grew watery before he stood up from his place and came and kneeled in front of me.
"I had no idea that you were a part of Revolutionary Army, Master. I am really grateful to you for saving my life and bringing me along!"
"I’m not a part of Revolutionary Army, Remi." I clarified making him look at me.
"Yes?"
I patted the seat beside me and he hesitantly walked over and sat down.
"I’m here for my own personal business and that coincides with Revolutionary Army."
"You decided to go with me because I saved your life but I’ll give you one more choice here." I said and he looked at me cautiously.
"You can be a part of Revolutionary Army, or you can decide to go with me but, let me warn you."
"The work of Revolutionary Army will finish with the end of the Tyrant but my won’t. I still have a long way to go and a lot of things to do. This war is not the only one for me, I’ll be engaging in lot of dangerous matters in future so, think carefully before you decide."
I gave Remi a brief overview of what he would have to do once he joined my side and told him to give it a thought till the war was over.
He quietly obeyed to my word and just as I was relaxing I heard the sound of footsteps approaching the room.
I turned to see Hael and Ciro walking in the room, Hael looked around my passed out members before his gaze found home on me.
He kept staring at me for a whole minute before he cleared his throat.
"Your bath has been arranged, Mr..."
"I’m not in my original body to introduce myself Hael." I said as I stood up making them stare at me with wide eyes.
"Pardon, what?!"
"I will need to wash my disguise off." I spoke stretching my arms above my head hearing the satisfying pops from my tensed muscles.
"Besides, I hope the bath or a room isn’t only for me, my people are also tired."
"Ah, yes. The bath and rooms are prepared for everyone."
I woke Lyall up who went over and awoke the drunk team and Hael and Ciro took care of escorting us till our rooms.
"You will stay here for the time being," Hael said pointing at the small room which had a bed and a table.
"My bath?"
"Ciro." Ciro nodded and gestured for me to follow him.
He led me down the hallway and we stopped in front of the double doors which he hesitantly opened and gestured for me to go inside.
The cool air from inside made me frown slightly and I noticed the underground lake which was lit up by the silver moonlight streaming down from the hole high up in the ceiling.
"I’ll bring your clothes." He said before he bowed and left.
I walked inside feeling the cold, smooth stones against my bare soles and noticed the stairway made of stones going towards the lake.
I plucked out the pin that was holding my tunic’s folds and held it in my hand.
The sapphire earstud which would replace the small earstud with yellow stone in my ear.
I peeled off the threadbare tunic from my body along with the skirt before removing the earstud and stepped down the stony stairway into the cool water feeling the light water waves slapping against my small foot.
I walked in deeper and sat down on a smooth rock as the water reached till my shoulders.
I felt my body relaxing as I had faced the scorching temperature for the past few days and my element was finally starting to move harmoniously.
I looked down at my small body and wiggled my fingers which suddenly seemed really tiny compared to Ocean’s.
My silver white hair was brushing right at my bony shoulders and I couldn’t help but feel as if I had suddenly grown weak despite not having any changes in my internal system.
I was slowly starting to feel habitual to Ocean’s body since it was close to my previous life’s body, minus being a woman.
[Goddess of Wisdom asks you to not rely too much on the puppet body.]
"Hey, don’t call my Ocean a puppet body!" I retorted.
[Goddess of Wisdom tells you that your original body is starting to sync with the physical strength of the Dragon Heart that you inherited from the Supreme Aqua Dragon.]
"Ah, yes, I can feel it." I said as I looked down at my hands which were in water.
[Goddess of Wisdom prompts you to embrace your Dragon side a little more for the synchronisation of the Dragon Heart with your body.]
I released a light groan sinking deeper into the water till I was completely submerged into the lake.
I moved my arms and kicked past the stone stairway as I swam towards the center of the lake where the circle was made by the moonlight.
I could feel the cool water enveloping me in a comforting embrace as I stopped swimming and let my body just drift into the water.
It was nostalgic to stay underwater like this since the last time I had been deep into a lake was when I was in the Dragon’s lair to help him get liberated.
I wasn’t going to drown or feel breathless as water was my domain now so, I decided to try something which I hadn’t done before.
I closed my eyes and let my Dragon’s mana ooze from my body and merge with the water around me.
The sensation that returned was something which I couldn’t explain in words. It was as if I had left the bounds of my physical body and now my soul itself was merged into the water or rather into the essence of the world.
I could feel my mana expanding in the surroundings, merging with its element and swirling around as if I’d suddenly released a storm that was trapped in a box.
I could feel its effect in the water around me which was slowly whirling in a circle with my physical self in the center.
The sudden presence of someone made me stop and my mana converged back to my physical self. I swiftly dove underwater and put the earstud on my ear before I broke past the water surface again.
I looked up at the hole in the ceiling staring at the moon that was slowly waxing towards completion.
"It lights up the whole cave on the full moon night." I turned my head and looked at the person who had appeared at the stairs.
It was a small boy apparently, who was dressed in clean white tunic and skirt with black hair that reached his shoulders and caramel skin that almost seemed to have a golden hue.
I swam towards the edge but didn’t step out of the water as I couldn’t scare the child by showing him a body which had no genitals or any indication of being a human body. This body was as good as a wax doll which encompassed my original body and worked as a puppet.
The child stood in his place at five steps above the water level looking down at me.
And I couldn’t help but correct myself, it wasn’t a boy, it was a girl. She had a new set of clothes in her hands along with a towel.
"You can put the clothes down, I’ll wear it when I’m done swimming." I told her but she didn’t move.
"Are you really the person whom they call Master?" She asked and I tilted my head to one side.
"Yes."
She stood silently for a moment before she pointed at the lake.
"What were you doing to the water?"
"It was my magic." I answered and she blinked twice before she looked at the lake and then at me.
"Can you do it again?" She asked and I smiled.
I let my mana surge out again and created a water whale which swam over the water surface and then jumped gracefully before landing. The girl’s eyes went wide as she stared at the magic whale made of water.
The whale broke out of water again and swam in the air swirling around the huge cave and passing over the girl’s head making her reached out and touch it before returning into the lake.
She stared at the water droplets on her hand before looking at me.
"How did you do it?" Her face carried the expression of awe and pure curiosity.
"I told you, it’s my magic."
"What else are you capable of doing?" She asked.
I hummed a little and enveloped water around my body creating a facade of clothes before I lifted myself off the water with the wings of water flapping behind me.
Her eyes widened as she saw me floating in the air before I dove back into the water.
"It’s... incredible."
"Thank you."
I waited for a few seconds and she still stood there looking down at me making me wonder what a child was doing being a part of the Revolutionary Army. But then again, she might just be a child of a member.
"Can you turn around though? I’m getting out of water now." I said and she turned around after placing my clothes and a towel down on the rock.
I stepped out of the water before walking up to the rock and wiped my body with the towel watching the small girl.
She might not be older than my physical age in this world. She looked around thirteen or so.
"What’s your name?" I asked as I pulled the skirt up my legs first.
"... Mi-Miri."
"That’s a cute name. My name’s Ocean." I smiled.
"How old are you?"
"Thirteen."
I pulled the tunic over my head and wiped my hair with the towel as I heard her ask.
"H-How are you able to harness your magic? Is it possible for me to learn it as well?"
I chuckled as she sounded like an eager child, "It might be possible if you have the suitable amount of mana."
"How can I know that?"
I walked over and placed my hand on Miri’s head making her look up at me. I could see her mana presence enveloping her small body, it was on a level to match with Rune’s but it was her affinity that made me curious.
"You do have potential." I mused and her eyes grew wide.
"The-Then, can I control water like you?"
"That’s not possible."
Her shoulders slumped and I added, "Because your affinity isn’t for water."
"Pardon?"
"Your affinity is for earth so, if you learn how to utilize it and practice hard then you could grow stronger in future."
Her wide brown eyes were of the earthy hue which made me wonder if it was just a coincidence that apart from all the other people here she was the only one whose mana capacity was so exceptional.
"How can I learn it?" She asked, her little face firm with determination.
"I’ll introduce you to a teacher once this war ends."
Her lips puckered up along with her dark brows, "But I wanted to learn it before the war. I want to fight!"
I ruffled her hair slightly, "Mana isn’t something that can be controlled within a day or two. It requires time and patience. For now, there are people here to fight so, you can just rest easy for now. In future when you grow stronger you will be able to protect the people who are now protecting you. Doesn’t that sound good?"
She stared at me for a few seconds before she put her head down.
"I understand."
