The Princess And The Lord-Chapter 1337: Traitor
Chapter 1337: Traitor
’Yawwn’
As soon as Lory got out of the car, she stretched her arms above her head, a cold wind suddenly hit her face and immediately woke her up from her drowsiness. Lory looked left and right, then her eyes caught a sign that said Welcome to the city of Ember and a small writing below it said rest area.
"Lory, let’s eat something" Jay called her.
Lory took off her sunglasses, she tightened her long coat as she walked towards Jay while Clift went to the camping store to buy a map and look up information that the locals who loved camping would usually know, it seemed his meticulous nature was still the same.
They entered a diner that was not too big but had a very comfortable atmosphere with a balcony that showed a beautiful view of the mountains. Luckily because it was not the peak season, the place was quite loose so it was easy to find a seat.
At the counter desk, a friendly-looking woman was waiting to take Jay’s order. After he finished ordering for himself, Jay asked Lory, "What would you like to order?"
Lory glanced at the Menu board, "I want... fish and chips, a slice of lemon pie, caramel ice cream with extra topping choco chip, and iced lemon tea, oh and add more honey, okay" Lory finished her order in one single breath.
"Is that all?" Jay quipped.
"Yeah, for now," Lory answered straightforwardly without showing any hint she was joking, and Jay knew she wasn’t joking either.
’She’s still eating like that, huh?’
Jay was always grateful that Lory was given the Gift of Healing. Otherwise, with her appetite, he didn’t know how many times Lory would have had a stomachache, although there was an incident where her Gift power was blocked and Lory ended up having a toothache and wasn’t allowed to remove her mana block device so she had to go to the dentist.
Jay remembers that day as a very loud and chaotic day, it was also the first time Lory swore she would never eat sweets again and that vow only lasted for a day.
While waiting for his order, Jay asked the Counter’s lady, "Do you know any shortcuts to Mirror Creek? I remember I used to go fishing with my buddy there?" Jay started a conversation.
The lady’s expression changed drastically. "You want to visit Mirror Creek?"
"Yes, is there a problem?" Jay asked.
The woman exchanged glances with her other co-workers, seemingly confused whether to say this or not but charmed by Jay’s boyish good look she couldn’t bear to lie to this man, "You better not go to that place..." she whispered.
"Why...?" Jay’s eyes stared straight into Lady’s, making her cheeks blush, meanwhile, Lory pretended she didn’t see anything.
"I heard that Bael appeared in that place, that’s why many people died or went missing in that place, maybe they became victims but, strangely, the creature could infiltrate Harland, aren’t we protected by the King’s barrier, but I don’t know..." The lady was feeling in contemplation.
Lory and Jay looked at each other then Jay asked again, "Has anyone confirmed that the creature is really a Bael?"
The waitress at the counter pursed her lips. "I heard that the mayor and the security chief of this area have already submitted a request for assistance to the central government to deal with this matter, but because there was no response from the central government and because of many people became afraid to enter the forest and tourism stopped completely, so the mayor decided to ask for help from the Guild to deal with this matter." The woman explained.
"Which guild?" Jay’s eyes flashed with curiosity.
The woman shrugged, "I’m not sure, but they are already here. I saw them a few days ago at the rest area."
"They’re here already?" Lory’s eyes held with a warning that Jay could recognize.
Soon the bell rang and the female cashier immediately took the tray containing their orders and placed it on the table. "All fifty Rom, do you want to pay cash or digitally?
"Cash" Jay took out a fifty Rom bill from his pocket and placed it on the table.
After that Lory and Jay went to a table on the balcony which was in the corner far from the other guests.
"What do you think about the news?" Jay asked as he shook the bottle of chili sauce on his burger.
While squeezing the lemon evenly over the fish, Lory calmly replied, "Should we allow the Guild to accept requests to deal with Bael?" Lory picked up her fork and knife and began to cut the fish.
"No, all Guilds located in Harland are not allowed to accept any jobs related to Bael and we don’t allow them to purchase new weapons made by Luxemborough, so they don’t have the permission or ability to deal with Bael" Jay replied. frёeωebɳovel.com
"Then where is this Guild?" Lory felt that there was something very fishy going on here.
Jay picked up his phone and started making a call "Hey, it’s me, find out if any guilds in Harland have accepted job requests to deal with Bael from the mayor of Ember City.... well, you find out! I give you an hour!" Jay’s sound was irritated his voice became a bit higher, after that he abruptly hung up the phone and then continued his meal as if nothing happened.
Lory was stunned at how stern Jay could be, she always wondered how this goofy kid handled his job when he became the Archknight, it seems her worries were unnecessary.
Not long after, Clift came with a tray and sat next to Jay,
he calmly cut his steak while listening to Jay and Clift, after that Clift added "I got other information from the camping store owner saying: "He notices a lot of campfire around the Mirror Creek and a truck in and out the forest at night"
"What does that mean?" Jay
"What does that mean?" The more information he got, the more restless Jay became.
"That’s what we need to find out." Clift chewed his steak quietly in an elegant manner.
"The lady also said about the mayor sending a request to the central government but they didn’t get a reply, ask Fred about this." Lory gave Clift an order.
"Hm, right away." Without further ado, Clift immediately sent a message to Fredhardt.
Not long after they finished eating, Clift’s cell phone rang, Clift immediately picked it up "Fred!,"
Shortly after they finished eating, Clift’s phone rang, Clift immediately picked it up "Fred!,"
Clift nodded his head then replied, "Are you sure?" then nodded, "Okay, I’ll find out, uh -huh - okay... what, Lory?" Clift glanced at Lory "She’s going to order his second lemon pie after eating a big scoop of caramel ice cream... yup, it’s extra topping! Fine, I’ll tell her."
Lory narrowed her eyes, she felt like she was going to be warned. Lory didn’t expect that at her age Fred would still criticize her love of eating sweet foods.
"What?!" Lory pouted.
Clift hung up the phone and then turned to Lory, "Fred said is not good to indulge in a bad habit"
"I’m already this old, it’s too late for me to change!" she defiantly said.
Clift raised his hand "Hey, don’t shoot the messenger! I just delivered Fred’s message, it’s up to you whether you listen to it or not, besides, he won’t know..."
Lory crossed her arms over her chest and pouted, she knew full well this reverse physiological tactic still and all, Lory didn’t order another lemon pie. It turns out that it is not only difficult to change one’s eating habits, but also difficult to change one’s habits so as not to fall into the same tactics.
’Indeed, old habits are hard to kill’
"By the way, you know Bael couldn’t have entered our territory with the protection of the King’s shield surrounding our territory so someone must deliberately sneak the Bael into our territory," Jay said.
"There is only one way to enter our territory, especially if it is something as big as Bael. They would need a special permit that can only be issued by an Archknight with the permission of the King to smuggle anything into our territory." Jay’s face turned into a mask of menace.
Whoever issued the permit must be someone who works inside the Cestine Palace and this is already overstepping their bounds since the Cestine Palace is the residence of the royal family so safety is their utmost priority but a rat dares to infiltrate the heart of Harland.
Clift sneered, "I feel sorry for anyone who dares to cross that calamity duo." Although Fargo and Fredhardt have been at odds since the first time they met, however, when they join hands together, nothing can stop them.
"Let’s get going, we still have a lot to do!" Clift finished his drink after that got up from his chair.
Lory and Jay followed, and they immediately left the rest area. An hour later they passed a sign that said Mirror Creek which was one kilometer away but there was an additional writing underneath it ’temporarily closed’
Clift pulled over his car, "Let’s just walk from here because the normal road to Mirror Creek is closed"
Lory opened the car door and breathed in the fresh mountain air, "A nice day for a walk, what do you think?!"
Jay opened the car’s trunk and then took out a small size backpack "I guess you’re used to hiking, by now, I heard there are no cars in your husband’s world, right?" he teased.
Lory smiled sarcastically, "No, but I have two great servants who always take care of my belongings"
"Well, The first King of Harland used to say, we are all equal in the eyes of God so here you get the small backpack!" Jay handed the smaller back pack to Lory.
Lory’s lips twitch as she puts the backpack on her shoulder. The truth is, the Backpack wasn’t that heavy, nevertheless, it’s still a hassle if only she had the spatial ring.
"I miss my handsome husband..." Lory looked up at the sky with a helpless expression.
Jay rolled his eyes "Stop complaining, you have a handsome guy right here, you should be grateful"
"You?" Lory looked at Jay up and down then scoffed "How could be the same? Just look my husband, tall, dark, handsome and he...um" She wanted to say ’He can keep me all night long’ but saying that in front of Jay who was like a brother felt so wrong.
Hence, Lory cleared her throat and then smoothly changed the topic "I think it’s going to rain, we should hurry!"
Thankfully, Jay’s attention was successfully diverted "Oh yeah you’re right, Clift let’s go!" she called Clift who was still busy calling his subordinates.
Clift ended his phone call and walked towards the trunk, "Hey handsome, do you have enough health potions and mana potions? You better not take my share."
"....." The corner of Jay’s lips twitch.
Clift put on his backpack while saying: "If we use the body strengthening spell, we will reach our destination in fifteen minutes, it will be longer because we are using a detour"
"Lory don’t use your wings, I’m afraid someone will see" Jay reminded Lory.
Lory looked at the dense trees and sighed "It’s not like I can use Girsha’s big wings to fly between the dense trees" Her wings would knock out all the trees!
"Okay, is everything ready?" Clift closed the trunk then followed by the ’beep sounds that indicated the car was locked.
"Are we going to leave our car there?" Lory was worried that someone would check the stranded car and become suspicious if they didn’t find its owner nearby.
"Someone will come and drop the car off somewhere nearby and they’ll return it when I call them," Clift replied.
With Clift there, Lory thought it was stupid to be worried, she’d rather focus on their mission. After tying her hair back into her usual ponytail, Lory said: "Let’s go, guys, early start - early returned!" Lory cast a stretching spell on her legs and then shot off like a bullet into the woods without waiting for Clift and Jay.
Jay and Clift look at each other then shake their heads and chuckle, soon after they bolt into the forest following Lory.
Lory didn’t need to hide her power so she unleashed all her power as she flew through the dense forest covered in thick white fog.
It didn’t take long before they arrived at the top of the hill.
"The river should be over there, right?" Lory looked down.
"Just like the camping store owner said, I found several campfires near Mirror Lake." Jay could expand his vision for a short time using a spell.
"Do you see the Bael?" Clift ask.
"I saw a strange wave of mana around the Mirror Lake, maybe it’s because of the Bael" Jay had never faced Bael before so he wasn’t sure.
