Chapter 1366: Broken Promises

Since they agreed everyone headed to the training ground which surprised Lory quite a bit, "There’s a training ground here?" Lory whispered to Fargo because as far as she knew, training grounds were usually located in military complexes and far from science institutions.

Fargo puffed out his chest and said proudly, "After much calculation, we decided to create a special path that connects the N.I.M.S. institute with the military complex. You know, one of the purposes of creating the N.I.M.S. is to strengthen the King’s Men’s weapons, and the N.I.M.S. needs the King’s Men to test their inventions, and all of that is done at the training ground, so for safety and efficiency, we make a connecting path for the Military complex to N.I.M.S."

"That..is a good idea" Lory admitted.

"Yes, aside from The Lucient, the King’s Men and N.I.M.S. are the biggest pillars of our kingdom, and the enemy is trying to infiltrate the two facilities more and more. We managed to stop them, but for how long? Sadly, we have to accept the fact that our country is not as strong as it used to be." Fargo brood over the reality he was facing today.

Lory understood Fargo’s worries, perhaps he still felt guilty about what happened to Lucas.

Lory patted his arm to comfort him. "Luckily, all the other countries are experiencing the same problem. I guess we still have time to fix our flaws."

Fargo shoved his hand into his pockets and sighed "Yeah, but not for long for we all known the Luxemborough has been trying to persuade other countries to side with them and with the help of the S..A.I.N.T organization it wouldn’t be long for them to achieved their goal."

Lory tilted her head "The Saintess problem, it’s not like we don’t have a way to handle it, right"

Lory had expected that sooner or later she would have to fight the Saintess face to face, what made matters worse was that this would be the type of fight she hated the most, as it would be a popularity contest.

Lory’s calm face weighed on his heart because just like Lory, he hated these kinds of popularity contests where they had to manipulate public perception and opinion, but what choice did they have?

"I understand what you mean, but we have to be careful with the timing, if we make a wrong move, the enemy will eat us alive." Just imagine the hassle he already feels exhausted.

Lory could guess what Fargo was thinking but this wasn’t the first or last time she got involved with something she didn’t like for the sake of her family and the Kingdom.

"I know, first of all, right now our enemies are still in the dark, never in a million years would they think I’m still alive and they don’t know how much we know about their plans, in short, compared to the enemies we are the ones who had all the advantages, we just have to be more careful when and where we will make the next moves...it just like chess. don’t you think?" Lory smiled slyly.

Fargo could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing up, "You’re getting more and more like Fred, you know that?"

Lory blushed then shyly said: "Aww, thank you Fargy."

"That’s not a compliment" Fargo scoffed.

Lory smiled cheekily: "It’s fine, I take it as one"

Fargo’s mouth twitched while Zhao Li Xin covered his mouth with his fist while holding back his laughter, he was glad to know that he wasn’t the only one who couldn’t win against Lory.

Once they passed through the automatic glass doors, they arrived in front of the Sky train. People were still discussing with their colleagues as they entered the train as usual. The same with Lory, even though he hadn’t seen a sky train for a long time, she wasn’t interested at all, The only thought that crossed her mind was ’Huh, it’s been a while’

On the contrary, Zhao Li Xin was utterly amazed. Since he came to this world, Zhao Li Xin has tried many transportations, including airplanes, which he found boring because he could see or feel anything, just like a fish inside a tin can. However, the Sky train looked different. He imagined it was like inside a moving transparent bottle, where he could still see the scenery around him. How interesting!

His black eyes scanned the entire body of the carriage which was mostly covered by transparent glass with full curiosity, only after Lory hooked her fingers with Zhao Li Xin’s did he come back to his senses.

"It’s called a Sky Train" Lory explained in a low voice.

Luckily, Zhao Li Xin’s facial muscles were paralyzed from years of learning to hide his emotions inside the notorious Imperial Palace, so no one noticed the subtle change in Zhao Li Xin’s face. If someone did notice, they would think a lot about it because Zhao Li Xin’s expression was more like someone who realized he didn’t have his wallet with him.

Inside the train, Thomas was discussing with Fargo and other researchers, while Lory sat comfortably browsing her phone, and Zhao Li Xin’s eyes were fixated on the moving scenery in front of him.

Ethan glanced at Lory furtively a few times before he prepared to approach her. "Um...Prin I mean Raven...I don’t know what to call you right now," Ethan was so flustered that he didn’t realize that Zhao Li Xin had noticed him.

Lory lowered her phone and then lifted her gaze "Raven is fine, Ethan, how are you" Lory replied with a comprehending smile like a benevolent monarch.

Lory’s attitude is friendly but formal which makes it feel as if there’s an invisible barrier between them. Lory didn’t mean it, as it was just her natural reaction when facing someone who knew her identity, especially to the opposite gender.

Meanwhile, Zhao Li Xin watches Lory and Ethan interact. However, after he sees Lory’s attitude, he flicks a faint smile and turns his gaze back to the scenery.

"I’m fine... um, how about you, Raven?" Ethan tried to ease the awkwardness.

Lory crossed her legs gracefully. "I’m fine, I see you’re busy with the weapon development. You’re making good progress, Mr. Hamilton," She sincerely praised him.

Ethan scratched his head sheepishly. "I’m just doing what I can, but don’t praise me yet, we still have to test it to see if it works."

"Nevertheless, I have high expectations that this weapon will work..." Lory turned to Zhao Li Xin who was checking the emergency button with a serious face.

’How cute,’ Lory thought.

Ethan’s expression hardened as he understood the weight of Lory’s words: "I heard that most of the Western countries have now joined Luxemborough..." That was one reason why Ethan was speeding up the development of weapons to deal with Bael.

Lory shrugged casually, seemingly unfazed by the news, "There is no eternal partnership between countries, only mutual benefits. When we can offer better benefits, those leaders will come to us naturally, like ants coming to sugar." His eyes sparkled as she spoke.

"I hope my invention is enough to attract their attention," Ethan said weakly. Lory looked at Ethan and chuckled.

"You should be confident, Mr. Hamilton. At least you should be sure why Luxemborough is desperately trying to get you on their side."

"I’m not proud of it, honestly. I heard that Lilly is being courted by a Playboy actor named Sean Lockwood. Of all the people sent to woo my little sister, I didn’t expect them to send Sean Lockwood." Ethan’s mouth tightened at the trouble that had befallen his entire family because of him.

"Hey, don’t underestimate Lilly, she is thoughtful and smart, and in my opinion, Sean Lockwood ain’t that charming," Lory said coolly.

Ethan was stunned for a moment, he remembered that Sean Lockwood was regarded as the hottest celebrity for three years in a row, and then his eyes subconsciously turned to Zhao Li Xin and afterward, he let out a deep sigh.

Ethan realizes that not only does she have a husband who possesses ethereal beauty, but she also grew up around men like Fredhardt, Fargo, Jay, and Clift, so it’s no wonder she would have her eyes on someone like Sean Lockwood. That reality is both comforting and disappointing.

"We’re here," Ethan looked over his shoulder, and then Lory stood up from her chair and looked in the same direction as Ethan.

The dark gray round building was surrounded by a sturdy iron frame and topped with a large silver dome that reminded Lory of a giant turtle shell.

From afar from the place that looked so majestic and scary, Lory couldn’t imagine what the place looked like, well, at least Lory knew their kingdom’s budget wasn’t wasted.

"Welcome to Sciron," Ethan said.

When the train stopped, they were immediately greeted by a strong and sturdy man. He looked to be in his fifties, but Lory knew the man was much older than he appeared to be because she knew him.

The man was General Leon Blackburn. He was assigned to guard the L’Markieth, and together with Lory, he fought against the demon beast that attacked L’Markieth during the Dark Age War.

Lory’s breath hitched and her steps halted. She stared fixedly at the man who accompanied her and fought to protect the L’Markieth, moreover, he was also the one who convinced Lory when Lory felt hesitant to leave L’Markieth.

’I know you left for a good reason, Your Higness and whatever it is I will always fully support you. So leave L’markieth to me, I promise I will keep this place safe until you and the King return, but if I may be bold, I hope when this is all over you will accompany me for a drink, even though I know you don’t like alcohol because it’s bitter, ha-ha~’

Leon did keep his promise, but unfortunately, she couldn’t accompany him for a drink. Lory lowered her head to hide her expression. As she came back, she realized how many promises she had broken.
