Chapter 121: Ch 121: An Outing Alone- Part 3

Rose’s expression shifted instantly. His eyes widened, his lips parting as if the universe had just proven him right.

Lyra, on the other hand, simply froze. She had not expected such a development to occur.

For a second, neither of them spoke.

Then, slowly, Rose’s lips curled into a smile. A smile of justification.

Selene, oblivious to their presence for now, was simply walking down the street, looking unbothered and content.

Rose exhaled, his fingers twitching slightly at his sides.

"See? Destiny."

He whispered, almost to himself.

Lyra, still staring at Selene, took a cautious step away from Rose. His obsession was getting worse and somehow, her instincts were really telling her to prioritize her own life above her crush.

"Nope. Nope, nope, nope."

She had a very, very bad feeling about this. She had to warn Rose not to do anything stupid.

Lyra could feel the warning signs flashing in her mind like blaring sirens.

"Rose. We are not doing this. We can’t afford to make Ethan Park our enemy. Do you have any idea what that would mean for us?! He’s number #8 for a reason. There is no way we can take him on."

She said sharply, stepping in front of him to block his path.

Lyra needed to do this for her sake as well as Rose. If she was able to snap his attempts and hold him back this time, the for sure-

Rose barely spared her a glance as he continued walking forward, his eyes locked onto Selene like she was some kind of prize waiting to be claimed.

"Destiny will protect me. You don’t have to worry about me at all."

He said simply, his voice eerily calm.

Rose looked so confident that Lyra felt her mouth go dry. She knew that she needed to speak up but she was not able to form words.

Lyra felt something in her stomach twist.

That was when she knew.

This wasn’t just his usual delusional nonsense. This wasn’t just him playing mind games for fun.

He fully believed this nonsense about fate and destiny.

’Why is it not me? I stayed by his side all this time, so why did destiny not pair us up? Should I give up now? I want to, but I don’t think I can.’

She had lost him. And yet, despite that, Lyra’s heart refused to back down.

"Rose, I’m serious. This isn’t a game. If we cross a line we can’t take back—"

She tried again, her voice quieter this time.

"Then you have a choice. Either you help me... or you never appear in front of me again."

Rose interrupted, finally turning to face her. His usually relaxed expression was sharper now, his gaze burning with conviction.

Lyra’s breath caught.

’So, this is it! This is the ultimate test to prove myself. I need to say the right thing here.’

For a minute, Lyra wanted to believe that Rose did not mean to ask her this and he had made a mistake. But his expression said it all-

He meant it.

The logical part of her screamed at her to take the second option. Walk away. Get out of this mess before it was too late.

But when she opened her mouth, the words wouldn’t come out.

In the end, she followed him.

Selene walked through the shopping district, her grip tightening around her phone as she sent a quick message to Ethan and the others.

She had spotted Rose and Lyra almost immediately, and the bad feeling in her gut had only grown stronger.

Not wasting any time, she quickly dropped her location and braced herself for the inevitable scolding she would get once the others found her.

’That’s future Selene’s problem’

She told herself.

For now, she had to play this smart.

She knew that as long as she stayed in public, Rose and Lyra wouldn’t be able to pull anything.

They weren’t stupid enough to make a scene in a crowded area, so her best bet was to keep moving and act natural.

So, she did just that.

She walked in and out of stores, occasionally stopping to buy small things to make it seem like she was just shopping. She made sure to always keep people around her, never straying too far from the main roads.

And for a while, it worked.

But then, somehow—somehow—she messed up.

One moment, she was standing in the middle of a busy shopping district.

The next, she was in a dimly lit alleyway, completely alone.

Selene blinked, her heart pounding as she realized she had no recollection of how she got here.

’No. No, no, no.’

Her Insight had been quiet. Her mind had been clear. And yet...

Somehow, she had been lured here without even realizing it.

She turned sharply, ready to walk back the way she came—only to find her path blocked.

Rose stood there, his usual smug expression replaced with something far more intense. His eyes gleamed with an almost feverish light, like a man staring at something he had been waiting for his entire life.

Beside him, Lyra looked tense, her jaw clenched as if she was forcing herself to be here.

Selene’s stomach twisted.

She squared her shoulders, forcing her voice to stay calm.

"Move."

Rose tilted his head, a small, amused smile curling on his lips.

"No."

Selene didn’t hesitate to turn to Lyra.

"You know this is a bad idea."

She said firmly.

Lyra hesitated, her eyes darting between Selene and Rose.

"I—"

"You know my companions are going to come looking for me. And when they do, it won’t end well for either of you. Walk away now before it’s too late."

Selene pressed.

Lyra’s hands curled into fists, a flicker of guilt flashing in her expression.

But before she could say anything—

A wave of dizziness crashed over Selene.

Her body swayed, her vision blurred, and a heavy, unnatural exhaustion wrapped around her like thick chains.

’No—!’

She tried to move, to fight back, but her limbs felt sluggish, her strength rapidly draining away.

The last thing she saw before everything went black was Rose’s face, smiling in victory.
