The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 120: Ch : An Outing Alone- Part 2
Chapter 120: Ch 120: An Outing Alone- Part 2
"What should I do now? I did manage to knock them out, but now I feel annoyed since I have to wait for them to wake up. Thankfully, it should not take long."
Selene crouched on the edge of a nearby crate, arms crossed as she tapped her fingers against her elbow impatiently.
The two stalkers she had taken down were still lying on the ground, pretending to be unconscious.
She had given them fifteen minutes—more than enough time to wake up naturally if they were truly out cold.
Yet, they remained motionless, their breathing steady, their muscles relaxed in a way that told her they were faking.
Selene exhaled sharply, her patience wearing thin.
’Fine! If they want to play dead, I’ll wake them up myself.’
Selene was generally a patient person, but she did not like to get tricked. Especially by these third-rated actors.
Without hesitation, she pulled out a small, foldable knife from her pocket and flicked it open with a quick snap.
"Oh my! I wonder how much it will hurt if I stab one of them. Hmm, will they bleed out if I do? Let’s find out."
She crouched beside the closest one, her Insight confirming that his pulse spiked the moment the blade appeared.
A smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.
’Gotcha.’
She raised the knife and let the edge hover just above his arm, just enough for the cold metal to graze his skin.
The moment the blade touched him, the man jerked awake, scrambling away with a startled gasp.
"Forgive me! I didn’t mean to-! It’s all a mistake!"
He blurted out, his voice shaking as he held up his hands in surrender.
Selene narrowed her eyes.
"Didn’t mean to what? If you don’t speak clearly, then I won’t know what you want to tell me."
The man gulped, his eyes darting toward his unconscious companion before looking back at her.
Selene didn’t wait for an answer. She leaned forward slightly, the knife still in her grip.
"Are you from Justice?"
The man hesitated for a moment—just a fraction of a second—but then he quickly nodded.
"Y-Yes! I am!"
’Liar. Does he think he can fool me with such mediocre acting? How disappointing.’
Selene’s Insight flared, reading every tell in his expression, the micro-movements in his body, the slight delay in his answer.
This guy had no idea what he was talking about. He was just using Justice’s name because it was convenient.
Most people who were from Justice would have never admitted it so openly. Not only because they had something to keep, but because they were bound by an ability...or so was theorized in Selene’s past life.
Selene sighed, rubbing her forehead.
’Of course. Just my luck—useless idiots.’
She stood up and flicked the knife shut, pocketing it.
"You’re lying. You don’t even know what Justice is, do you? It’s more likely that you will decide to come after me because I look easy."
The man paled, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. He knew he had been caught, but he could not see a way out of this situation.
Selene exhaled through her nose.
"Whatever. I don’t have time to deal with you morons."
She kicked the unconscious one lightly in the ribs, making sure he was at least semi-alert before turning to them both.
"I’m letting you go. But you’re going to sign a contract saying you won’t pull something like this again."
The two men blinked, confused.
Selene pulled out a thin, almost transparent paper and unfolded it in front of them.
With a simple swipe of her finger across the surface, glowing runes appeared, forming a binding agreement.
"Sign here."
She ordered, handing them a pen.
The two men hesitated, clearly reluctant to lose whatever deal they had gotten themselves into. But the alternative was much worse.
With defeated sighs, they both scribbled their names onto the contract.
The moment they did, the paper dissolved into glowing particles and disappeared into the air, sealing the agreement.
"Ah, before we leave, I need to show you something else as well. You see this knife you were so afraid of? It’s just a toy. I had no intention of harming you this time, but next time..."
Selene stretched her arms, cracking her back as she straightened up.
"Next time will be different. So you better get your act together and run now. Who knows what I will do to you next time. Now scram."
The two men exchanged glances, looking regretful but also relieved to still be alive. They muttered quick words of gratitude before stumbling away, disappearing into the busy streets.
Selene rolled her shoulders and turned in the opposite direction. She had wasted enough time. She still had things to do.
At the same time, across the city, Rose Grayson and Lyra walked side by side. The atmosphere around the pair was worse than it had ever been before.
Lyra kept sneaking glances at Rose, her expression a mixture of mild concern and exasperation. Her instincts warned her to be careful, but her heart wanted her to help the man out.
’Sometimes, I hate my heart. Why did I have to fall for him out of all people?’
"Are you feeling better now?"
Rose didn’t answer right away. He had been unusually silent since their last meeting at the government facility, and his mood had only gotten darker since.
Finally, he scoffed.
"Don’t talk to me."
Lyra raised an eyebrow.
"Excuse me?"
Rose waved a dismissive hand.
"I’m in a bad mood. The only thing that will improve it is if I get to monopolize my destined partner."
Lyra groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"You sound like a weirdo. Your obsession is getting creepy."
Rose stopped walking, turning to face her with a deeply serious expression.
"You don’t understand true love and destiny."
Lyra stared at him.
"No, I think I understand just fine. You’re delusional."
Rose ignored her and continued walking.
"My destiny will guide me to my fate."
Lyra let out a short, dry laugh.
"And what, exactly, does that even mean?"
Before he could answer, the two of them turned a corner—and there she was.
Selene.
