Chapter 127: Ch 127: Unfinished Business- Part 1

Now that Rose had been knocked out and confined, the main problem seemed to have been resolved.

But there was still one issue—who was going to watch him?

Selene did not want Rose to parade around, but she did not want to put the man down completely. What she wanted to do was to find a solution where she did not have to see Rose again.

As if answering that question, a familiar presence suddenly arrived at the scene.

Lyra.

She skidded to a halt, her chest rising and falling heavily as if she had run all the way there.

Her gaze immediately locked onto Rose, and in that moment, a wave of emotions flickered across her face—relief, horror, sorrow.

"You... you actually did it. I-Is Boss alive? I...did you kill him?"

She breathed. Lyra looked scared and relieved at the same time. It was tough for Selene to be able to tell what she felt for her boss, but it was certainly more than friendship.

Rose turned his head slightly, his expression unreadable as he looked at Lyra. It seemed he still had some fight left in him.

Lyra swallowed hard and turned to the group.

"I—Thank you. For stopping him."

She hesitated, then bowed her head slightly.

There was something raw in her voice.

Then, taking a deep breath, she straightened and looked directly at Selene.

"I’ll take him."

She said.

Selene frowned.

"You want to take responsibility for him?"

"I have to."

Lyra said quietly.

There was silence.

Then Ethan let out a low chuckle.

"Perfect. She can be his babysitter."

He said, grinning.

Lyra blinked, caught off guard.

"What?"

Zara looked at Ethan, frowning.

"You’re seriously suggesting her?"

"Why not?"

Ethan said. He nodded toward Lyra.

"She’s got history with him, and from the way she’s acting, she’s not about to let him get away with anything. Besides—"

He smirked.

"—he already listens to her more than anyone else."

Lyra’s expression twisted slightly.

"That’s... not exactly true."

But even as she said it, she knew it wasn’t completely false.

Rose, still bound and silent, shifted slightly but didn’t protest.

Selene observed Lyra carefully. There was a tightness in her shoulders, a weight in her eyes.

It wasn’t love she saw in Lyra’s expression anymore—it was duty.

Guilt.

She sighed.

"Fine. But if he even tries anything—"

"I’ll take care of it."

Lyra said immediately.

Selene wasn’t entirely convinced, but it was better than the alternatives.

Ethan clapped his hands together.

"Great. Babysitter assigned, problem solved. Now let’s wrap this up."

Lyra shot him a glare.

"I am not a babysitter."

Ethan only grinned.

Then, his expression shifted, turning more serious.

"Let’s go home. This mess will sort itself out. We did what we could have."

Ethan’s carefree voice echoed across the almost-empty.

Orion frowned. "You sure? We should help—"

"No."

Ethan’s voice was sharp.

The others hesitated.

Selene narrowed her eyes slightly, studying his face. There was something dark lingering beneath his expression—frustration, anger, something heavier.

One look at him told them all why he wanted them to leave.

It wasn’t a request.

It was a warning.

Zara exhaled slowly.

"Fine. Let’s head back now. There is no point in arguing about this to you."

Ethan took one last look back at the scene. His eyes seemed to be telling Selene that this was not over and that Ethan would be back here to finish what he started.

As they walked away, Lyra lingered for a moment, her gaze still locked onto Rose.

Something in her chest twisted.

Then, finally, she turned and followed the others.

And Ethan—

He was still watching them with his haunting eyes. Just looking at them was enough to make Lyra feel terrified.

’That man feels like death. I feel as if I will die if I encounter him again.’

______

The walk back was quiet.

No one spoke.

There was an unspoken agreement between them—what happened tonight would never be mentioned again.

Selene felt exhaustion settling deep into her bones, but it wasn’t just from the physical toll of the fight. It was everything—the emotions, the confrontation, the weight of dealing with Rose.

As soon as they stepped into the house, she stretched her arms above her head and exhaled.

"I’m going to sleep."

The others turned to look at her, but no one protested.

She didn’t need to explain herself. They all understood.

Ethan gave her a small nod, his usual teasing absent from his expression.

Orion mumbled something about being tired as well and immediately followed after Selene, heading to his own room.

That left Ethan and Zara alone in the dimly lit hallway.

Zara crossed her arms, studying Ethan with a sharp gaze.

He ignored her at first, walking past her as if he intended to go to his own room, but she didn’t let him escape that easily.

"So, what are you going to do next? When are you going to head out?"

Zara said casually, leaning against the wall.

Ethan stopped mid-step. His head tilted slightly, but he didn’t turn to face her.

"What do you mean?"

Zara rolled her eyes.

"Come on, Ethan. Don’t play dumb. You’re not the type to let things slide, especially not when it involves Selene."

He scoffed, finally turning toward her with an amused smirk.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about."

Zara laughed.

"You really think you can fool me?"

She tapped her temple.

"I’m your familiar, Ethan. I know you better than you know yourself."

Ethan didn’t reply immediately. He simply looked at her for a long moment before clicking his tongue in annoyance.

Zara smirked at his silence.

"That’s what I thought."

She pushed off the wall, stretching her arms.

"Well, whatever you do, don’t be too reckless. And get some sleep. Selene’s going to worry if you look half-dead tomorrow."

Ethan didn’t say anything as she turned and walked away, disappearing into her own room.

Once she was gone, he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

Zara wasn’t wrong. He wasn’t the type to let things slide.

And he wasn’t done with Rose yet.
