The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 138: Ch : The end is all I see- Part 1
Chapter 138: Ch 138: The end is all I see- Part 1
Madam Verta clicked her tongue, annoyed. She had expected more from them, but in the end, they were just small fries.
’Tsk, I told these fools that they will die. But they still insisted on coming. This Is all their fault. It is not mine!’
Still, she wasn’t entirely ungrateful. Their sacrifice had given her enough time to perform a reading.
And now?
She knew exactly where to go.
Her ’Chosen One’ was waiting for her.
But the monsters weren’t letting her leave easily.
She cursed as they continued tracking her, no matter how many turns she took. Their senses were sharp, and even though she was able to dodge their attacks, she wouldn’t be able to outrun them forever.
Which meant she had no choice.
Her lips curled into a bitter grimace as she reached into her robes and pulled out a small vial filled with an iridescent liquid—one of her most valuable reward potions.
"Damn it."
She muttered before chugging the entire thing in one go.
Her presence disappeared instantly.
The monsters paused, their heads snapping left and right, trying to track her down—but they couldn’t.
Without wasting a second, Madam Verta took off in the direction of her vision, leaving the carnage behind.
______
She arrived at the clearing, panting as she braced herself against a tree.
Relief washed over her as she took in her surroundings.
She was safe.
Her expression brightened as she immediately started speaking.
"My Chosen One! I knew you’d be here! You must save me!"
She breathed.
But as she scanned the area, her relieved expression faltered.
Because Ethan... wasn’t there.
Instead, she found herself looking at Selene and Orion.
"Where... where is he?"
She asked, her voice sharp with disbelief.
Orion leaned against his shield, looking completely unimpressed with her dramatics.
"Ethan? He left to take on the boss a while ago."
Madam Verta froze, her entire body going rigid.
"Impossible! My predictions are never wrong. Ethan was supposed to be here.""
She whispered.
Selene tilted her head.
"The future isn’t fixed, Madam Verta. You shouldn’t rely on it too much."
Madam Verta turned to glare at her.
"You—!"
That moment of anger cost her dearly.
She had missed her timing for taking another dose of her potion.
And just like that, her presence became detectable again.
The monsters lurking in the trees immediately locked onto her position.
Their glowing red eyes flared, and they lunged toward the clearing.
"Shit—!"
Orion reacted fast, throwing up his barrier just in time to block the first wave of attacks. The monsters slammed into the shield, their bodies crashing against it with immense force.
Even with his abilities, Orion flinched.
"I won’t be able to hold this for long."
He warned. His fingers trembled as the barrier flickered under the impact of the repeated assaults.
Selene nodded.
"Just do your best."
She reached into her pouch, pulling out a small bomb—one of the many explosive tools she had prepared in advance.
Without hesitation, she hurled it over the barrier.
The second it hit the ground—
BOOM!
A deafening explosion shook the clearing, throwing several monsters backwards and sending dust and debris flying. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Selene then turned to Madam Verta.
"Get closer. It’ll be easier for Orion to shield us if we stick together."
she ordered.
Madam Verta immediately refused.
"There’s no way I’m doing that. Your presence is already suffocating enough—"
she spat, her face twisted in disgust.
"Then I’ll drop your shield."
Orion cut in.
His voice was calm, but there was no hesitation in his words.
Madam Verta’s eyes widened.
"You wouldn’t dare."
Orion didn’t even blink.
"Try me."
The barrier flickered again, and this time, it cracked slightly under the pressure.
Madam Verta’s face twisted in frustration. She hated this. Hated that she had no real combat abilities. Hated that she was being forced into a position she didn’t want to be in.
But she also wasn’t stupid.
Gritting her teeth, she reluctantly moved closer to the pair, though her annoyance was clear in every step she took.
Selene didn’t comment on it. She simply focused on the bigger issue at hand.
"What’s the plan? Can you predict how to get out of this?"
She asked.
Madam Verta crossed her arms.
"I don’t know. And it’s your fault."
She admitted, her voice dripping with irritation.
Selene raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
"Your very existence makes it harder for me to see the future. You’re like an anomaly. A disturbance. It’s like trying to predict the movements of a storm that shouldn’t exist."
Madam Verta snapped.
Orion rolled his eyes.
"So in other words, you’re useless."
Madam Verta’s eyes blazed with fury.
"I am not useless."
"Then prove it."
Her fingers curled into fists.
"Fine. I’ll show you."
She took a deep breath and focused on Orion, her eyes glowing with a strange light as she reached out with her abilities.
"I’ll determine your fate right now."
She declared.
Selene and Orion watched her, waiting.
And as Madam Verta delved deeper into Orion’s future—
Her expression changed.
From anger—
To shock.
To absolute horror.
A heavy silence fell over the battlefield as Madam Verta’s trembling voice carried a terrible prophecy.
"We’re all going to die."
The weight of her words pressed down on them like a suffocating fog.
Orion’s grip tightened around his shield, his knuckles turning white.
"That’s... not funny."
"I’m not joking. I saw it. No matter what I do, no matter how I look at it—this is the end."
Madam Verta said, her voice almost hollow. Her face was unusually pale, beads of sweat glistening on her forehead despite the chilling atmosphere.
For a brief second, Orion faltered.
And that moment of hesitation nearly cost him his life.
A monster lunged from the shadows, its claws cutting through the air like jagged blades, but before it could reach him—
BOOM!
A well-aimed bomb exploded against its chest, sending it flying backward in a spray of gore and smoke.
Selene didn’t hesitate. She grabbed Orion’s wrist with an iron grip, her other hand yanking Madam Verta along, the older woman stumbling in her grasp.
