Chapter 139: Ch 139: The end is all I see- Part 2

The monsters were coming and Selene quickly gave the command.

"Move!"

Selene ordered, her voice sharp as steel.

"What are you doing?!"

Madam Verta protested, her eyes flicking wildly between Selene and the swarming monsters.

"Running away from our deaths. If you want to die, then you are more than welcome to stay here and let yourself get run over."

Selene said, her tone eerily calm.

Madam Verta gritted her teeth.

"You can’t run from death. It is something that is inevitable."

Selene let out a short, humorless laugh.

"I already ran from it once. Also, aren’t you running from your death as well? Do you truly mean to stay behind and get crushed?"

Madam Verta groaned, but it was clear that she didn’t believe her words. However, she could not deny the fact that she was struggling to live as well.

They dashed through the twisted forest, the gnarled branches clawing at their clothes like skeletal fingers.

The humid air smelled of damp earth and blood, thick with the stench of decay. But no matter how fast they ran, the growls and guttural snarls of the monsters never faded.

Orion cursed under his breath.

"This is getting ridiculous! How long do we have to run? My legs feel like they are burning."

Ahead, the dense undergrowth suddenly parted, revealing a clearing bathed in silver light.

But before relief could settle in, the monsters encircled them again—their glowing red eyes flickering with primal hunger.

Orion immediately activated his barrier, the golden dome shimmering as the creatures slammed against it, making the ground tremble beneath their feet.

"We’re trapped."

Madam Verta muttered, gripping the edges of her cloak.

Selene exhaled through her nose, unfazed.

"You shouldn’t be so sure."

Just as she spoke, a sudden gust of cold air howled through the clearing.

The temperature plummeted, the oppressive heat vanishing in an instant.

Then, without warning—

A wave of frost spread across the battlefield, freezing everything in its path.

The monsters stopped moving. Their snarls turned into pained shrieks before they were silenced, their bodies encased in thick layers of ice, their twisted limbs frozen mid-attack.

Madam Verta’s breath hitched.

"What... just happened?"

Thud.

A figure dropped from the treetops, landing effortlessly between them and the frozen horde.

Noah stood tall, his silver-blue aura pulsing with restrained power, the frost at his feet crackling beneath his weight. His icy gaze flickered toward Madam Verta, unreadable.

"I’ll personally make sure the future you saw turns out wrong,"

Selene assured Madam Verta as she stood tall and waited for Noah to finish the monsters off.

Before anyone could respond, the shadows of the forest shifted—more monsters emerging from the trees, their movements erratic as they tried to break free from their icy restraints.

But Noah didn’t even flinch.

With a flick of his wrist, razor-sharp spears of ice erupted from the ground, impaling them before they could take another step.

He moved like a force of nature, precise and unrelenting. There was no wasted movement, no hesitation—only cold, ruthless efficiency.

Madam Verta, still reeling, instinctively activated her ability—

Only to jerk back as a streak of ice narrowly missed her face, shattering the tree behind her.

She gasped, spinning around just in time to see a monster topple from the branches, impaled before it could pounce.

Noah’s cold gaze locked onto her.

"I don’t appreciate you trying to use your abilities on me. I heard that you can see the future, but don’t try that shit on me."

Madam Verta let out a nervous laugh.

"Aren’t you curious?"

Noah’s expression remained unreadable.

"No. "Knowing the future won’t change anything. I’ll forge my own."

His voice was calm but absolute.

Madam Verta opened her mouth to argue, but she stopped herself.

She had no counter to his words.

By the time she finally looked away, Noah had already annihilated the remaining monsters.

The battlefield fell silent once more, the once-roaring monsters now nothing more than frozen corpses scattered across the ground.

Noah took a steady breath, his aura fading slightly. Then, slowly, he turned to Selene.

And for the first time, he hesitated.

Selene’s sharp eyes caught the flicker of uncertainty in his usually confident posture. His fingers twitched at his sides, clenching and unclenching as if waiting for something.

Orion, standing beside her, immediately picked up on it.

Leaning closer, he smirked. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"I think he wants to be praised."

Selene blinked, confused.

"What?"

"Look at his face. He’s got the same expression a puppy has whenever it wants pats. You should say something to Noah."

Orion’s grin widened.

Selene frowned slightly. That didn’t make sense. Noah never needed validation—he had always been strong, capable, self-assured.

But then... she looked closer.

The stiffness in his posture. The way his gaze flickered between her and the ground. The expectant, almost hesitant energy that didn’t quite match the Noah she knew.

It was familiar.

Painfully familiar.

Like a memory from another lifetime, stirring in the back of her mind.

A certain someone used to do the same thing.

Her heart ached.

For a moment, she hesitated.

Then—she reached out.

And ruffled Noah’s hair.

The reaction was instantaneous.

Noah’s eyes widened, his entire body freezing as if she had cast a spell on him.

Then, like a puppy receiving attention for the first time, his expression lit up. His shoulders relaxed, his ice-cold demeanor melting away to reveal something soft, unguarded, and almost childlike.

For the first time in a long while—

Noah looked his age.

Selene’s lips curled into a small, genuine smile.

"Good job."

Noah beamed.

Orion scowled as Noah shot him a superior look, his smug expression practically radiating arrogance.

"Why do you look so proud of yourself? You’re more childish than an actual child like me."

Orion grumbled.

Noah’s brow twitched, his irritation flaring in an instant.

"What did you just say?"

He took a step toward Orion, the cold air around him growing sharper, as if responding to his annoyance. But before his temper could get the better of him, Selene reached up and ran her fingers through his hair again, her touch gentle but firm.
