The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 189: Ch : Getting to the Meeting- Part 1
Chapter 189: Ch 189: Getting to the Meeting- Part 1
Nora adjusted the cuffs of her pristine white sleeves, standing beside her twin brother, Noah, as they prepared to leave for the government meeting regarding the newly emerged B-class dungeon.
The Vale family’s presence in the meeting was crucial.
Their family’s influence and wealth made them one of the most powerful forces in the awakened world, and the government sought their support in stabilizing the growing dungeon crisis.
Despite knowing this, Noah wasn’t particularly excited about the meeting.
He had never enjoyed these kinds of discussions—the endless formalities, the dull speeches, and the suffocating air of politics.
’This is going to be such a miserable meeting. But since I will have Nora with me, it should be alright. I can leave everything up to her this time.’
Noah did not feel as worried as he usually would because he was not heading out alone...or so he thought.
Just as the twins were about to step out, a servant dressed in the Vale family’s signature dark uniform approached them, bowing respectfully before speaking.
"Lady Nora, your father has summoned you."
Nora’s brows furrowed slightly.
"Summoned me? What for?"
The servant hesitated.
"He has assigned you to a different mission."
Nora’s frown deepened.
This was the first time she was hearing about this so-called mission.
Her father was not the type to make last-minute decisions unless it was something urgent.
Yet, she had received no prior notice about a change in plans.
Still, her father’s word was absolute.
With a quiet sigh, she turned toward Noah.
"Listen, be careful during the meeting. If you don’t know what to say, then don’t speak. Since we are from the Vale family, things will take care of themselves."
Noah huffed, crossing his arms.
"You act like I’m a child."
Nora shot him a pointed look.
"You’re careless. That’s why I worry."
Noah grumbled under his breath.
"I’m not that bad."
Still, her words had already set in.
No matter how much Noah wanted to prove himself, he knew that Nora would always see him as the reckless one.
It wasn’t entirely unfair—he wasn’t as cautious as her, and he did have a tendency to act on impulse.
As she turned to leave, Nora hesitated for a second.
Something about this felt wrong.
She pushed down her unease and continued walking, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Noah still had a sulking expression as he made his way toward the car.
’I’m perfectly capable of handling this meeting on my own. I don’t need Nora with me.’
It wasn’t like he was completely irresponsible. Sure, he wasn’t as serious as Nora, but that didn’t mean she had to treat him like an idiot.
Just as he was about to step inside the vehicle, a familiar presence loomed behind him.
"Noah, my boy."
A strong arm draped itself over his shoulders, and Noah immediately tensed. He didn’t even need to turn his head—he knew who it was.
Dr. Aldric.
The man’s presence always sent a strange unease crawling down his spine.
Noah shrugged off the doctor’s grip almost instinctively.
"What do you want?"
He asked, stepping away.
Dr. Aldric’s smile remained in place, his pale blue eyes gleaming with something unreadable.
"Nothing much. Just a small favor."
From his coat pocket, he pulled out a small, unmarked pouch made of soft fabric.
Noah eyed it warily.
"What is it?"
"A little experiment. Take this with you to the meeting. Once you’re inside, open it. I’d like to see the results."
The doctor said smoothly.
Noah narrowed his eyes.
"Why don’t you open it yourself?"
He countered.
Dr. Aldric’s lips curved into something that resembled amusement, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
"Because I’m not invited to the meeting. If I could, I would do this myself. Also, don’t worry. It’s perfectly safe to use."
He said.
Nora did not feel reassured. His gut instinct screamed at him not to trust the doctor.
He reluctantly took the pouch, feeling its weight in his palm. The powder inside shifted slightly with his movement, as fine as crushed ash.
Dr. Aldric’s smile grew.
"Good boy."
Noah fought the urge to shudder.
He turned on his heel and left without another word, but as he walked away, he could still hear the faint sound of Aldric’s low, amused chuckle.
Something about that laugh unsettled him.
By the time Noah arrived at the government base, he had already made up his mind. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
’I’m not using this.’
Whatever Aldric wanted to test, Noah wasn’t going to be part of it.
He reached into his pocket, pulled out the pouch, and tossed it into a nearby trash bin. The small bag landed with a soft thud, sinking into the pile of discarded waste.
Noah dusted off his hands and kept walking, feeling satisfied with himself.
Out of sight, out of mind.
As he stepped into the meeting hall, he adjusted his tie and straightened his coat.
He had more important things to focus on than whatever twisted experiment Aldric had planned.
However, unbeknownst to him, someone had been watching.
One of the Vale family guards, stationed near the entrance, had observed Noah’s movements closely.
The moment Noah walked past, the guard silently approached the trash bin and peered inside.
His sharp eyes locked onto the discarded pouch.
With careful precision, he reached inside, retrieved it, and ripped it open.
A thin mist of powder dispersed into the air, colorless and odorless. It spread in an invisible cloud, carried subtly by the air conditioning system of the building.
Noah, completely unaware, continued walking into the meeting room.
As he entered, he found himself surrounded by government officials, high-ranking guild leaders, and a few selected awakened elites. The weight of the Vale family’s presence in the room was unmistakable.
A seat had already been reserved for him—right next to Selene.
She glanced at him, eyes sharp with an unreadable expression.
Noah didn’t know it yet, but the moment he walked in, the trap had already been set.
