Chapter 190: Ch 190: Getting to the Meeting- Part 2

As Noah stepped into the meeting room, the atmosphere shifted.

The room, filled with government officials, guild representatives, and high-ranking awakened elites, suddenly became stiff with tension.

Conversations that had once been animated died down into cautious whispers, and several individuals subtly adjusted their seating positions, as if bracing themselves.

’This feels so uncomfortable. I wish I had Nora with me...not that I need her. I am perfectly capable of handling this pressure on my own.’

Noah wanted to prove himself. And if he was going to do that, he did not need Nora with him.

His heart did skip a beat when he noticed Selene’s presence in the room as well. She was sitting at the other end of the room, and she looked far more comfortable and attentive compared to him.

Just looking at her made Noah calm down and he felt reassured that he could get through this just fine.

Selene, who had been observing the entire room carefully, immediately noticed something off.

Her sharp gaze flickered to Noah. He was alone....which was rather rare. Usually, the twins had a lot of security around them.

His bodyguard, who should have been tailing him, was nowhere in sight.

’This is unusual.’

The Vale family never allowed their heirs to walk into important meetings unguarded.

Even in a controlled environment like this, their protectors remained close, unseen but present.

Selene wanted to question Noah. She wanted to ask him where his bodyguard had gone, why he looked so slightly off-balance, but she held herself back.

Too many eyes. Too many ears.

She forced herself to remain quiet and turned her attention toward the government official standing at the front of the room.

The official cleared his throat and brought out a stack of documents.

"As most of you are already aware, the newly emerged B-class dungeon presents an unpredictable threat. Due to this, we have decided that only a limited number of participants will be granted entry."

A murmur of discontent spread across the room.

The official ignored the grumbling and continued.

"Furthermore, only those with verified identities will be permitted to join the raid. We cannot allow unknown individuals to enter and jeopardize this mission."

The reaction was immediate.

Several hunters—most of them new faces—voiced their protests.

These were individuals looking to make a name for themselves, eager to prove their worth. Their frustration was understandable, but the official remained firm.

"This is not up for debate. I will not allow more unnecessary deaths."

Selene leaned back in her chair, observing the rising tension in the room.

She wasn’t surprised by the government’s strict stance.

The awakening drug had thrown the entire system into chaos, and reckless individuals were looking for shortcuts to power, often getting themselves killed in the process.

Despite the mounting pressure, the official refused to budge.

When it became clear that arguing with the official was useless, most of the attendees shifted their attention to Noah.

As the sole representative of the Vale family in this meeting, his words carried immense weight.

If Noah spoke in their favor, there was a good chance that the decision could be overturned.

Several individuals tried to coax him into responding, calling out his name in thinly veiled attempts to gain his support.

But Noah remained silent.

He sat completely still, his eyes unfocused as if he hadn’t heard a single word.

The annoyed whispers in the room grew louder.

Selene, watching carefully, noticed something odd.

Noah was ignoring everyone.

Not just because he didn’t want to get involved—Selene could sense something deeper.

His silence wasn’t one of indifference. It was something else.

’Looks like Nora told Noah to not speak much. She must have guessed that something like this would happen.’

Before she could dwell on it further, the government official called for a break.

Selene stood up, stretching slightly.

"Ethan, I’m going to the bathroom. Hold down the fort."

Ethan didn’t even look up.

"Got it."

Several individuals glanced at Selene, their expressions dark with unspoken intent.

Clearly, there were people in the room who had been waiting for the right moment to confront her.

But as soon as Ethan casually leaned back in his seat, resting an arm over the back of Selene’s chair, a heavy pressure filled the room. freewebnσvel.cѳm

It was subtle, but absolute.

The people who had been planning to follow Selene suddenly found themselves unable to move.

Selene smirked internally before walking away.

She felt Noah following her.

Not obviously—his steps were light, almost uncertain. But she could sense him trailing behind.

She quickened her pace.

She didn’t know why Noah was following her, but if she was going to confront him, she wanted to do it somewhere private.

As she turned the corner, she realized where she was.

The canteen.

She was about to turn away and head somewhere else when her Insight suddenly flared up.

An instinctual warning.

Something was wrong.

Selene immediately activated her ability, her vision sharpening as she scanned the area.

Her eyes landed on the canteen worker.

No—not a worker.

Noah’s missing bodyguard.

He was standing behind the counter, his expression eerily neutral as he stirred something into the trays of drinks about to be served.

Selene’s stomach dropped.

She burst through the doors, startling him.

The bodyguard froze, his hand hovering over the drinks.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then, slowly, the bodyguard’s expression shifted.

His initial shock melted into something... calculating.

Recognition flickered in his eyes as he realized who she was.

Then, he relaxed.

A slow smirk stretched across his lips.

"Selene Vale...the traitor."

He said her name with the confidence of a man who thought he had already won.

Selene narrowed her eyes.

She knew exactly what he was thinking.

He wasn’t afraid.

Because in his eyes, Selene was just an ordinary person.

She was powerless.

And he was an awakened.

She clenched her fists, her heartbeat steady.

’He thinks he can take me out easily.’

She exhaled softly, preparing herself.

"What are you doing?"

The bodyguard raised an eyebrow.

"Nothing much!"

Selene stepped forward, her voice calm but unwavering.

"Then, you won’t mind stopping, right?

The bodyguard scoffed.

"Tsk, you meddlesome bitch! Stop meddling in this. Your father asked me to do this."
