To His Hell and Back-Chapter 30: Hateful Mother Queen
Chapter 30: Hateful Mother Queen
Lady Morgana was walking down the dark hallway. The night dark as blotch of the finest ink yet despite the lack of light, the Queen of Versailles who would usually spend her time in privilege of her castle had made her way in secret to a secret alleyway.
Even her luxurious red gown made out of the finest fabric which she would usually proudly show to everyone else was now covered with a heavy black cloak to hide her stature. She had sneaked into a place far from the castle, entering a place that wasn’t with so many people. This was the alleyway that most people only use for to sell illegal goods and poisons, most of the time even humans as slaves meant to be killed or use for the primal pleasure.
But the queen hadn’t gone there simply because she wanted to enjoy fresh blood, instead she had came here in such hush secret that she would even come alone because she had to meet someone important, someone who could help her achieve her dream in making her son as the heir of the Crown.
Once she entered, she snapped the door open, her eyes staring at the room which quickly greeted her with a heavy stench that had made her to frown.
Regardless of this, she made her way to take a seat right across the table, when she settled down, her eyes stared at the woman whose face was also covered by a thin veil that had shrouded the lower half of her face, only showing her eyes as even her hair was covered by the veil.
§"You said that this time the medicine will be perfected," said Lady Morgana, her hands crossed and her tone annoyed. But even with all her power, she didn’t dare to use a tone that was too rude to the woman in front of her, "You said that this time, it would affect him."
"He is a pureblood vampire," answered the woman, her voice deceptively sweet. "You know as well Your Majesty, that the blood running in him is special. Usual medicines won’t work on him."
"But you said you have found a better medicine," argued Lady Morgana. "Isn’t this why, I had sought after you? Because you said you could offer me a way on how to get rid of that stepson of mine!"
The woman’s eyes that was watching Lady Morgana suddenly turned sharp and even Lady Morgana flinched. Even though Lady Morgana had became a vampiress, truthfully in the past, she was nothing but a human. She had long let go of her humanity when she first seduced the King, ready to prove her undying love for him by becoming a vampire.
But unlike the rest of the vampires, she wasn’t born to thirst for blood. Although she could get over the taste of blood in a blink of an eye, her fear of death was much stronger than other vampires, knowing that when she was a human a small illness or stab could cause them death.
It was why in front of a greater danger, Lady Morgana found herself stiffen in place and fear overtook her.
She quickly hid it, her eyes staring straight at the woman in front of her who she called the "enchantress".
The Enchantress eyed her for a long while before she spoke with a curled smile, "Don’t worry Your Majesty. The poison will work soon and if it doesn’t, I have concocted a new poison," she then slipped a purple flask in front of her with the shape of a teardrops.
It quickly fascinated Lady Morgana with how the liquid seemed to sparkle like a mermaid’s scales when it moves, glittery and shiny. She reached out her curious hands, her fingertips about to touch when the enchantress stopped her with a warning, "Touch it and you might not only lose your position as the queen and lose your child in your womb, but you will also lose all the trace of humanity you have in you."
Lady Morgana’s hands quickly flee. She then snapped her gaze sharply at the Enchantress, "What kind of thing have you given to me?! How dare you!"
"It’s something that will become your greatest weapon, Your Majesty," the enchantress’s tone was polite but also mocking. She looked at the flask proudly and had grinned which could be felt even if her lips were hidden. While she lifted the flask to the nearby candlestick, she continued her words, "You see, this is a new mixture I have provided after such great care. It’s a poison that would mimic something you call as the tainted. You do know what tainted vampires are, don’t you?"
With a huff, Lady Morgana would have ordered her men to cut the enchantress’s head for the tone she used to talk to her but the enchantress had provided her so many useful medicine and mixtures that she couldn’t let the woman die yet.
She responded at once, "Of course I know. Tainted vampires are those who are corrupted by their powers. It happens only for those who are born as a vampire or pureblood as sometimes their thirst could overwhelm them, turning them into a mindless creatures that would thirst for blood. This much is nothing," she huffed, "What’s your point then?"
"This mixture, you just have to mix it slightly bits by bits to the Crown Prince’s food or drink. As we feared, he is immune to many type of poisons but he can’t also be immune to the tainting unless he had died once."
"Ah, AH!" Lady Morgana slapped the table, her eyes wide and her lips wide. She blinked a few times, impressed and moved. Finally she let out, "I see what your point is now! This would prevent me from being found out as the perpetrator as well and Cassius’s death would only be presumed as natural."
"Indeed," the enchantress sang, "So do it slowly oh and in case that they did found something on his food, make sure you have someone who could bear the burnt."
"That much is fine," said Lady Morgana, happy as she stared at the purple liquid with her eyes that shone with upmost delight. When she imagined all those wealth and rank that would fall to her hands and her son who is still inside her stomach, she couldn’t wait to shout at Cassius’s grave insults she had been wanting to yell at his face for so long.
She suddenly recalled the annoying pest and muttered, "True, there is also that human pet. She would be useful as a black sheep."
