Chapter 109: Bad News

The expression of deep shock blossomed on their faces when they heard the conversation between the Puma and the Lynx.

’Let’s catch them and interrogate them.’

Even though they only exchanged glances, Leo and the others immediately understood what they should do.

After Devan gave a signal, Captain Alice and the others came out of their hiding places, rushing toward the Puma and the Lynx.

The Puma and the Lynx were caught off guard by their sudden assault, causing them to be paralyzed in seconds.

No!

Even if they had not let their guard down, the result would still be the same.

Devan, Leo, and Alice were Master rank warriors.

Coupled with Lewis and Zayne, their fate had been set in stone the moment they decided to attack them because they were only 3-star magical beasts.

"You damn human! Fight me one on one if you dare!" The Puma roared angrily.

He believed he would not lose if it were one versus one because he was confident in his fighting abilities.

"Oh? Colonel Devan, why don’t you let me fight this Puma? My daggers are thirsty for blood, so this is the perfect chance to satisfy them." Captain Alice’s wild and sadistic personality came out again.

Devan slapped his forehead.

’Here, we go again.’

He believed Alice would be popular if she did not constantly show her crazy, battle-maniac side because she had a pretty face and a nice body.

"Hey, Puma, Lynx, I will let you go if you answer my questions." Devan spoke and paused for a second before he continued, "You mentioned that countless magical beasts are planning to attack Nightshire City. Tell us everything you know about it."

"Who do you think you are, human? Do you think I’m your slave who you can order around?" the Lynx sneered, refusing without thinking twice.

Devan shifted his gaze to Puma. "What about you? Are you going to refuse, too?"

"Of course! You caught us because we let our guard down. If this were one-on-one, you would be begging for mercy under my feet!" the Puma snapped, holding onto his pride as a 3-star magical beast.

Devan sighed. "It seems like we need to use violence. Captain Alice, I will leave this to you."

"Don’t worry, Colonel Devan. They will spill everything willingly soon enough." After saying that, Captain Alice began torturing them.

Cries of pain and screams for mercy echoed through the area as Alice gleefully worked her daggers.

From her expression, Colonel Devan and the others knew that she really enjoyed her task because she laughed happily as she tortured them.

After enduring the torture for around twenty minutes, the Puma and Lynx finally begged for mercy.

"Please stop! Please stop! We will tell you everything." The Puma and the Lynx could no longer endure Alice’s cruelty.

"Tch! You guys gave in too fast." Captain Alice said in a disappointed tone. "You should have held out for at least thirty minutes. I’m still not satisfied, you know?"

"Hiii?" The Puma and the Lynx shivered in fear as she licked the blood from her daggers.

Their earlier pride had vanished, replaced by sheer terror.

"Alright, tell me everything you know about it." Devan demanded.

"But you will let us go after this, right?" The Lynx wanted to make sure Devan would keep his promise later.

"As long as you don’t lie to me, I will release you later." Devan answered.

Puma and Lynx exchanged nervous glances before finally telling them about the rumors they had heard recently.

They revealed rumors about a dragon named Julzreon, who was planning to attack Nightshire City with his subordinates.

They said he was also responsible for the calamity that had befallen Verneau Town.

"We don’t know the exact numbers, but rumors say he has more than one hundred thousand subordinates under him." The Puma said,

"More than one hundred thousand?" Zayne said in surprise.

"So, he is the reason for what had happened in Verneau Town, huh?" Lewis muttered

He had previously assumed the magical beasts were disorganized, but now he knew they had a leader.

"Our city is the closest city to Verneau Town. Is this why he plans to attack us?" Leo mused as he touched his chin.

"Why does he want to attack our city?" Devan threw another question at Puma and Lynx.

"I don’t know about it." The Puma shook its head.

"It seems like we need to cancel the training for newcomers," Lewis uttered.

Their city would face a dangerous situation, so they needed to cancel the training because newcomers could change the result of the war.

"Colonel Devan, we need to inform General Georgia about this immediately." Leo said every minute was important because it could determine the future of their city.

"Aright. Let’s go back to the camp now." What Leo said was right, so Devan agreed instantly.

"We have told you everything. You will keep your promise, right?" the Puma hoped Devan would not break his promise because he did not want to die.

"Alright, you can go." After saying that, Devan led his subordinates away from the area, rushing to the camp.

The Puma and the Lynx let out a sigh of relief as Devan’s group disappeared one by one.

However, their relief quickly turned to terror when they saw Captain Alice approaching them with a sinister smile.

"What...what are you doing to do?" the Lynx stammered.

"Human, didn’t your leader say he would let us go? Why didn’t you leave with them?" the Puma asked with a trembling voice.

"Colonel Devan had let you go, but I never said I would let you go." Captain Alice hated magical beasts to the bone.

Many families of Nightshire City had shed tears and suffered because of magical beasts, so of course, she would kill any magical beast she saw, including the Puma and the Lynx before her.

"Don...don’t come any closer, human." the Puma and the Lynx cried as they scrambled backward.

"Hey, don’t be like this. Didn’t we have a nice relationship earlier? Let’s play again and deepen our relationship. I promise I will treat you nicely." Captain Alice said.

The fear in their hearts grew bigger as they saw her wicked grin.

"No! We don’t want to play with you." The Lynx knew the meaning of her words, so he refused immediately.

"Please leave us alone." The Puma begged for her to spare their lives.

"Hey, you are hurting my feelings by saying that, you know?" Captain Alice enjoyed their frightened expression very much because magical beasts always laughed when they scared the citizens.

"No...No...Nooooo!"

And with that, the final screams of the Puma and the Lynx echoed through the forest.

----

Forest, Camp.

A gorgeous lady was sitting on a chair in her tent.

Her long green hair matched perfectly with her emerald eyes, and her body was as flawless as that of a supermodel.

If she had pointed ears, anyone might mistake her for a beautiful mature elf because she was simply too perfect to be human.

The name of the mature lady was none other than Georgia Cole, Major General of Nightshire City.

Georgia was currently reviewing the profiles of the newcomers.

Even though she had already done so before, she was checking them again because she didn’t want anything bad to happen to them during their training in the forest.

’Should I rearrange their group divisions?’

As she was reading the document, one of her subordinates entered her tenth.

After standing in front of Georgia, she spoke, "General Georgia, Colonel Devan and Major Leo have important information they wish to convey to you."

Georgia put down the documents on the table and answered, "Tell them to come in."

"Understood, general." The subordinate responded before stepping out.

Shortly after that, Devan and Leo stepped into her tent.

"What information do you want to tell me?" Georgia inquired. "Is it related to the newcomers?"

"No, general Georgia. It’s related to the future of our city." Devan answered.

"The future of our city?" Georgia’s eyes narrowed at his words. "Tell me everything in detail."

"It’s like this, General Georgia." Devan began telling her everything.

Georgia’s face darkened as she listened to the story.

"Major Leo, return to the city with newcomers immediately." Georgia commanded, "Colonel Devan, call Lieutenant Lewis and Captain Alice. We will go to northern region to check the situation now."

"Understood, General Georgia." Devan and Leo answered in unison.

After the duo left, Georgia lifted her head slightly, looking at the blue sky.

’I must protect our city.’
