Chapter 53: Goals

Lumen was right, his levelling speed decreased by a large margin after he defeated the three packs of wolves that were patrolling his area.

With his current level and abilities, he had no doubt that he could defeat beasts up until level 25 quite easily, unless they were Elites that is.

Past that point he had no real judge of the beast’s power as he knew from his body enhancement quest.

[Quest: Enhancing the body

Quest Description: You are now only a worthless F tier being, the lowest of the multiverse and weak enough to be swatted by any being of E tier above. Work your hardest and do your best to reach the requirements needed to upgrade the tier of your soul.

Quest Requirements: Reach level 25, E grade soul tier

Quest Rewards: Revealed upon completion]

This quest had been with him since before the tutorial had even started when he had just obtained his human body.

Knowing that at level 25 the soul tier of one would change gave Lumen a great amount of enthusiasm and anticipation for reaching that level as he had no doubt that there would be very bountiful rewards from doing so.

However he also felt a little uneasy as there was no doubt that the beasts also followed this system of levelling up and upgrading soul tier. This meant that the boss of the dungeon could be an E tier beast if he were unlucky.

But his goal for the moment was to reach at least level 20, as he had a hunch that just like when he reached level 10, he would receive another new skill. His current theory was that one would receive a new skill either related to one’s experiences in life or directly linked with their class every 10 levels, and most of his theories had been correct or nearly correct so far.

Walking through the cave, Lumen quite enjoyed the quiet and ambient atmosphere of faint water droplets falling and the cool air surrounding him at all times, though he still very much preferred the forest environment in comparison to this.

He doubted that most other humans were enjoying this experience as much as he was, considering that every day was a fight for survival against beasts as well as other humans. The whole scenario reminded Lumen of news articles of Earth from the past of his previous universe, where wars once rampaged the planet and there was barely any safe places left from the wrath of the selfishness of Human nature.

But Lumen still liked the cave nevertheless. He didn’t have to even consider staying on the lookout for any dangerous human enemies at night, and he loved how there was no foliage or trees blocking his visibility of the area surrounding him, allowing him to spot prey from hundreds of metres away in the vast caverns.

If there was one thing he hated more than anything about this tutorial though, was the lack of information that was provided to him. Lumen knew how important information was as he once held the knowledge of a whole universe at one point in his past universe.

His instincts had saved his life many times in this place, but having knowledge of the dangers beforehand would be much more preferred to Lumen.

Not knowing anything about the tutorial other than the information he had already deduced was annoying to no end. Not knowing what the Fantasia realm was like, not knowing if one could travel between the Fantasia realm and Earth, not knowing what would happen to him when his soul tier upgraded. Most of all, not knowing anything about the system or the tutorial.

He had never come across anything as peculiar as the system in his long life, and he was pretty sure the frontline explorers of his old universe had either.

Yet, he still had no doubt that he knew more than most did about this tutorial and the system, and now that he finally had an entire bookshelf of books neatly packed away in his inventory he had no doubt that the gap in knowledge would widen.

Though his desire to read was put aside by his desire to level up and defeat the boss of the dungeon even more.

Everyone else was far more in the dark than himself, especially considering that he was the first person to find a dungeon, as well as the first person to learn about the true usage and concepts of mana.

Unless something drastic had changed back in the normal environment of the tutorial, they should all be utterly clueless in understanding how the system worked, their questions left unanswered for the time being, at least while they were in the tutorial.

However despite his lack of knowledge, he was clearly doing quite well for himself due to his luck in coming across the dungeon as well as his understanding of mana.

His thoughts were also confirmed by the tutorial panel as well as his status, as he looked through both due to his boredom of not finding any wolves for hours.

His credits ranking had drastically gone up during his escapades throughout the dungeon, though he was a little curious as to who was beating him in first place.

Other than that, he had also noticed that over the past 2 weeks, nearly 3000 more people were dead compared to the last time he had checked the panel.

Not to mention he had collected over 145,000 credits during his nearly 3 week tenure in the tutorial, and if the prices of products in the system store were still the same as before he entered the tutorial, he had no doubt that he was considered rich!

It was quite the number and had no way of being stolen or faked like the now useless currencies of Earth when he could have simply launched a cyber attack to steal copious amounts of it. But the system was completely different from any digital technology humans had created as it could even manipulate reality directly.

Lumen was powerless in front of such a dominant existence like this.

He had also made it a habit to read through the rare quality book of magic he had received from the treasure cave, and he had learnt many things from it from his reads over the past couple of days.

The first being that one could accumulate intelligence points and therefore a higher mana pool over time through meditation, with his own stat increasing by average one point per nightly session, going up by a total of four at this point.

He had made it a habit at that point to meditate every night before he went to sleep, which he also found increased his stamina and mana regeneration speed as well that had accumulated during his active periods in the day. He partly found it easy to meditate in the calm and serene environment of the cave as there wasn’t exactly a lot of distractions for him to stray towards down in the empty place.

One thing he found very convenient was that his range of perception was still active while he focused on meditation. He had found this out the hard way when a lone level 16 wolf had stumbled across him while he was in a deep and intense trance.

It had awoken him from his meditation almost as instantly as it entered his range and he didn’t spare it any time to attack him as he was truly annoyed at having his concentration ruined by the ignorant beast.

However he shook off the frustration caused by the beast and unable to regain his concentration, he simply went to sleep.

The first thing in the morning, he stood up from his survival tent, fully restored from the deep sleep and meditation from the previous night and went out to start hunting for more prey once more.

The same dark environment of the cave greeted him as it was impossible to tell the time down in the dungeon without the aid of the tutorial panel. But the dark didn’t affect him as much now that his stats had increased to a point where he could see relatively well in the dark.

As he walked, his eyes and ears, and most notably his range of perception were keenly on the lookout for any beasts to hunt constantly. He didn’t have to wait long as he had luckily managed to come across a wolf after just half an hour of searching.

This wolf was quite a deal bigger than any other wolf he had come across so far, with it being on par with the level 12 Elite wolf he had killed previously.

And once he scanned the beast using his basic identify skill, his suspicions surrounding the power of the beast were confirmed through a notification from the system, as well as a nice bonus on top of it.
