Chapter 37: 037 Kind-hearted Lu Jiahao_1

Lu Qingyi propped her hands on the table and stared at her sister, Lu Jiayue, with a smirk. "Money?"

"Sis, use the money I have in this card, no need to take the long way," Jiayue pleaded as she pulled out a bank card from her bag.

"No thanks."

Lu Qingyi dropped her gaze from the card held by Jiayue, her expression indifferent.

She wasn’t lacking money.

Even if she was, she’d rather starve than accept charity from Jiayue.

"Jiayue, what are you up to now?"

Suddenly, a clear male voice broke through the conversation. It was laced with a hint of annoyance.

A young man with a buzz cut stood at the doorway of the 20th class. His golden skin contrasted against his clear, perturbed brows.

Not everyone could pull off a buzz cut, but it made him look even more handsome and sunny.

"Jiahao."

Jiayue turned, sounding surprised and a little weak.

"Don’t you ever get tired?"

Jiahao moved up a few steps, his brows still furrowed at Jiayue.

"What are you talking about?"

Jiayue bit her lower lip, looking rather vexed at her brother.

Even though they should be the closest, Jiahao’s heart always tilted towards Qingyi.

"Don’t you have to study?"

Jiahao quickly glanced around and softly asked.

After all, she was his sister. He didn’t want to confront her in front of everyone.

After weighing her options, Jiayue left a large packet of candies and walked off.

Even if Qingyi didn’t want it, she couldn’t take it back.

Jiayue wouldn’t eat the low-grade candies.

"Sis, why didn’t you send me a message?"

Jiahao held up his phone, looking slightly sullen.

Nobody told him about Qingyi coming back to school – not Lu Yao, not Yao Meishu, nor Jiayue.

Now, he was headed for the 20th class himself.

"You’re studying for the art exam."

Even though Qingyi was cold towards Jiahao, she didn’t hold the same malice as she did with Jiayue.

Looking at the boy in front of her, she felt a smile playing at the corners of her lips.

He’s gotten taller, tanned, and thinner.

Boys grow up so quickly. When she last saw him last year, he was only a tad taller than her, and now, he towered over her.

"I’ll treat you to lunch today, okay?"

Jiahao asked, looking expectantly at Qingyi.

"No thanks, I’ll eat at school," Qingyi said after a moment’s thought.

The school’s food wasn’t that good, so Jiahao must have planned to eat out.

Amongst all else, she quite liked the food at Xu Boyan’s and didn’t want to miss it.

"Ah? Then let’s eat in the cafeteria," Jiahao rubbed his neck as if a light bulb had suddenly switched on in his mind.

He knew that his siblings didn’t like Qingyi and it wouldn’t surprise him if she wanted to live at school.

Qingyi gave Jiahao an indifferent look.

"Ah, right, I don’t have a meal card," Jiahao said, slapping his own thigh. "No problem, I can borrow one."

He was well-liked, borrowing a meal card was a piece of cake for him.

"I’m eating at the snack bar," Qingyi finally muttered out after a long pause.

"Eating instant noodles and bread every day isn’t good for your health," Jiahao advised.

"Qingyi always eats at the snack bar," Yumeng interjected.

From the moment Jiahao had walked in, she hadn’t blinked once.

Wasn’t he super handsome?

Jiahao was a bit shocked, "Ah?"

He knew that the snack bar sold a lot of things, but he never knew it served meals too!

What kind of sorcery was this?

"Go back to class. Come meet me at noon," Jiahao said lightly.

She quite liked this little brother of hers.

"Oh, okay!" Although he didn’t understand what she meant, Jiahao obediently agreed.

"Qingyi, your brother treats you well," Yumeng sighed longingly as she watched Jiahao’s receding figure, then turned her head back to Qingyi.

Jiayue was fake, but Jiahao was sincere.

Qingyi simply responded, "Mhm."

Yao Meishu was always talking about how she was alienated. True, she wasn’t welcomed in that family, but Jiahao was the only one who genuinely cared for her.

Qingyi lowered her head, toying with her phone. Opening WeChat, she found his profile with the black icon.

She kept it unmarked.

[Can I have extra food for lunch?]

She really liked the food at Xu Boyan’s place. She also enjoyed spending time with him.

She felt a little anxious after sending the message.

It was kind of embarrassing.

[What’s up?]

[Sure.]

Boyan responded quickly to her message.

As terse as his usual cold demeanor.

[I want to bring someone with me.]

Hovering over the keyboard for a few seconds, Qingyi finally entered those words.

Then, closing her phone, she sighed lightly.

If he didn’t agree, she would eat in the cafeteria with Jiahao. Going out to eat was a hassle anyway.

Her phone vibrated soon after.

[Sure.]

The message jumped out as she turned on her phone.

Boyan didn’t ask who she was bringing or refuse. There were only two simple words on the screen.

[My brother, he’s back at school today.]

As if guided by some unseen force, Qingyi tapped out this message.

Was she explaining herself?

After hitting send, she realized something was strange.

She wasn’t in the habit of explaining herself.

In the snack bar, Boyan leaned back in his chair, long legs casually crossed on the table. The lordly pose suited him.

As he read her message on his phone, a grin played on his lips.

Xu Yi watched Boyan’s quick mood change in disbelief. One moment Boyan was brooding, the next light-hearted.

Boyan was engrossed in his phone as if chatting with someone.

Chatting?

Xu Yi was puzzled. Boyan was usually too lazy to use chat apps. He preferred to call people directly if he needed something.

"Xu Yi, order a bit more food for lunch," Boyan said, looking up at Yi.

A slight smile could be seen on his lips, and even Xu Yi, a grown man, was left dumbstruck for a moment.

Xu Yi recovered after a while, "Huh? Oh."

His intrigued gaze rested on Boyan.

Boyan’s finger rhythmically tapped on the table. "More vegetables, less meat."

Children who didn’t like meat meant that he needed to work on his culinary skills.

How can she gain weight if she doesn’t eat meat?

The child was too thin, Boyan thought.

More vegetables, less meat?

Xu Yi was dumbfounded. Boyan had never cared about such specifics before when ordering food.
