What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 499: They Already Have Another Job
We climbed back in the truck and sped off back to the elevators.
Thankfully, we didn't get ambushed this time so I assume that whoever was fighting this group earlier had either given up or already dealt with them.
And I even unjammed the machine gun too… What a let down.
…
…
Really? Nothing? I thought for sure that if I thought that, it would raise a flag and another car would come bursting out trying to shoot us so I could shoot back at them.
Tsk… Disappointing.
I looked back at the truck bed where we managed to salvage several weapons and also some Credit Chips from the thugs before the building burned down.
Incidentally, we also found a safe hidden under the bar and Amber basically tore the door off its hinges to reveal a ton of Credits inside.
I guess that Deviminio guy really was telling the truth that these people were being sponsored by one of the station administrators.
Although… Their weapons were still pretty lacking though… I thought they would have military grade gear but they were no different than the first two gangs we dealt with…
Lea suggested that they were probably using the Credits to buy alcohol instead or the leader was just hoarding the Credits for himself.
Oh well, at least there were still Credits anyway~
We returned to the elevator and I noticed the turrets activating to point their barrels towards us.
No, not us… They were pointing at the truck.
I guess that's also a security feature of theirs where unidentified vehicles would also be targeted in case someone tried to ram into the checkpoint.
Amber also seemed to have noticed the turrets and stopped the vehicle a distance away before it started firing at us for being too close.
The guards were watching the truck warily until they realised who the occupants were when we got out and they relaxed a little.
We had to once again pick up all our loot and carry them towards the elevator on foot, ignoring the odd looks from the guards.
We entered the lift and the same two guards that had been accompanying us on our lift trips were there.
Instead of the ride being silent like before, one of the guards finally spoke up as we were ascending.
"You three are really Mercs, right?"
I turned back to raise an eyebrow at him, "What do you mean? Who else do you think we are?"
"I mean… The other Mercs that we've seen go down to deal with those gangs… They usually don't come back this fast… And they certainly have more members in their group as well… Judging by the guns you're carrying right now, you dealt with a pretty large group too… Yet there's only three of you?"
I shrugged, "I guess we're just that good?"
The guard beside him nudged his colleague with an elbow, "Dude… You don't know? She's the one who took out that Pirate Lord in Cietai System…"
Wow, this guy even knows that?
The other guy turned to him, "What? What Pirate Lord?"
"Holy crap dude, this is what happens when you don't pay attention to the fucking news. You look like a retard right now."
"Well fuck you. Does knowing about these things increase my pay? No? Then I don't fucking care dude."
"If you knew that then you would have a list of people you know you shouldn't fuck with. And Mercs who are able to take our Pirate Lords on their own should be near the top of your list."
Ok… This is getting a little awkward now…
I don't even understand why they are saying we took down the Pirate Lord alone because the military and other Mercs were also involved in the raid too.
Sure, we fought the Pirate Lord himself alone but without the others backing us up, we wouldn't have gotten that far ourselves.
I wonder who was responsible for spreading that in the first place because clearly this was not just an isolated incident…
The two of them were still arguing when the elevator came to a stop so the three of us quickly left, trying our best to ignore them.
"What are we going to do with this, Mistress?" Lea asked after we switched to the other elevator that would bring us to the ring where our ship was located.
I turned to her and raised an eyebrow questioningly, wondering what she was referring to.
She then gestured to the pile of guns that she was carrying in her arms.
"Ah. Right. I was thinking of letting Ries deal with them. See if there's anything she wants to use then sell the rest. Maybe the gun shop we visited earlier might want to buy them."
"Are we taking another job right after that?" Amber asked.
I groaned, "I think we've had enough for today… I'll be happy with a bath and then some nice food."
At the mention of the word 'food', both girls immediately reacted and turned to me with a very familiar look on their faces.
I chuckled, "What do you two want to eat?"
"Anything made by you is wonderful, Mistress," Lea answered immediately.
Amber giggled, "Oh, I think the same as well~ But would it be too much to ask for some… Special sauce on top of whatever you make for me? Oh! Or maybe I can just get it directly from the tap? I'm not picky~"
Yeah… I know exactly what kind of sauce she is referring to…
I decided not to say anything and I was saved from actually needing to by the elevator ding signalling our arrival on our floor.
As we stepped out of the elevator, I heard a notification coming from my Codex, prompting me to pause.
Only problem was that the pile of guns in my arms were preventing me from checking what the notification was about.
Deciding it could wait until we returned to the ship, I ignored it for now and continued in the direction of the docking area.
As we were approaching the hatch where our ship was docked, my Codex rang again which made me a little worried about what the notification might be about.
The door cycled open and I quickly dumped the stuff I was carrying on the floor of the cargo bay before twisting my arm to check my Codex.
Ok… Three messages… Wait, three? I only heard two notifications? Must have missed out one then…
Checking on the timestamps… Oh, looks like one of them was sent back when we were still driving back from that bar we burned down.
I guess I had been too distracted to notice back then.
Let's see what these messages are…
Ok, the first one was a message about receiving the photo of the dead leader and then the transfer notice of a hundred and eighty thousand Credits. Damn, that much just for burning down the building and shooting a couple of idiots? This is good money.
Also, it seems like they are pretty fast with their money transfers eh? I was thinking that they would need a day or two to verify the image before they actually send the money.
It's good that they are prompt with payment since it'll be a pain if they're the kind of employer who delays payments.
Now the second message… Ah, this one's from the Guild… And it's just them confirming that the hustle was complete and the transfer of ten thousand Credits was a success.
The clear contrast in the amount of reward money was not lost on me.
Well, Credits are still Credits so I wasn't going to complain.
I swiped that message away to check the third one.
[New target. The Morts will be doing an arms trade at the location attached tonight. Eliminate both the dealers and the gang members that show up there.]
Crap, it's really a new job huh? I was hoping that they wouldn't give us another one so quickly…
I guess at the very least this only happens tonight so we still have the rest of the day to rest and prepare.
Amber peered over my shoulder, "Another job?"
I sighed, "Yeah… At least it's only happening tonight I guess. So I'll still be able to make food for us before we have to deal with that."
"Can't you just reject it if you really don't want to do it?" Amber pointed out.
"Hmm… Maybe I could but… The money's good. And this one seems like a pretty simple one where we just need to kill some people making an arms deal," I explained, scrolling to the attachments to check the location that it was happening at.
It seemed like the place was a warehouse and located quite a distance away from the elevator as well.
Guess we're lucky that we still have that truck parked near there that we could use, assuming it hasn't been stolen by someone else of course.
Still… I wonder how they're getting this information in the first place?
Well, whatever… Before this, I have something more important to do…
Time to cook~
