I was just about to head towards the kitchen with Lea and Amber when I heard footsteps thundering from behind me.

Turning back, I saw Ries running towards me with an excited look on her face.

"Boss! Boss!! I need you! Quickly! Quickly!"

Eh? Err… Ok?

I turned back to look at Lea and Amber and both girls gave me a nod to show that I should follow her.

"You two go ahead then," I instructed before turning back to follow Ries, the Maochatte leading me back to her workshop.

Ries seemed to really be in a hurry because she wasn't willing to waste anymore time and grabbed my hand before she started running in the direction of the workshop, pulling me along behind her.

I was wondering what she needed me for since I'm not really sure if I could be of any help in her workshop… Unless she wanted me to bend her over on the desk again since she seemed to like that position…

When the doors slid open, I realised why she wanted me here.

Ries skipped over to the assembled power armour and gestured towards it with a flourish, "Tadah! What do you think, Boss?! I think I did a pretty good job even if I do say so myself!"

Truth be told, it was… Awesome.

The imposing look of the armour… The sleek design… The menacing look of the helmet… So cool.

"It…. Looks a little different as compared to the ones we saw though?" I pointed out.

The ones I remember those guys were using seemed to be a little more on the bulkier side while this one seemed to be a little slimmer?

Ries grinned at me, "I'm so glad you asked, Boss! I did some upgrades of my own!"

She then beckoned to me and I could see her tail swaying excitedly behind her and I think I know what I was going to be subjected to in a few moments…

She patted the side of the armour, "They made this with cost efficiency and modability in mind so that the military can cut down on the need for specialised power armour when they can just take the base and equip it with the mods they need for their mission. The idea was so that they can be deployed in any scenario and also minimise the chances where their power armour cannot be deployed for any reason! But obviously, they can't just spend all their money on just one power armour so they have to spread the money out on each unit to make a general model~"

She then gestured towards the side and I realised the leftover power armour parts that we had salvaged were left in a pile there. But compared to before there were significantly fewer parts than what we salvaged.

"For us, we don't have that requirement so I went ahead to take all the parts that I could combine together to make them more effective!"

I raised an eyebrow at her, "Ok… So what exactly did you change?"

"Ehehe~ Boss must be wondering why the armour seems smaller than before right?"

I nodded.

"The equipment those guards sent by the nobles were much better compared to the power armour ironically so I replaced what I could with those instead. So we don't need those heavy armour plates anymore! Additionally, I also revamped the shield systems to make use of the ones we took from the noble guards as well so this shield is much stronger than before! Plus… Ehehehe~ I have some plans for the future as well so look forward to it, Boss!!"

Oh~ That certainly sounds nice~

I turned back to look at the power armour.

Hmm? That's odd…

I feel like there was something missing but I couldn't put my finger on what exactly was missing…

Wait! I know!

"Where's all the weapons, Ries? Didn't you buy a lot of weapons from the weapons store the other day?" I asked.

Ries scratched her cheek sheepishly, "Umm… About that… Because I went to overhaul the armour… I'll need some time to update the weapons systems to allow it to control all of the weapons I have brought back… That might take a while I'm afraid…"

Ah… Ok…

The Maochatte quickly added, "But! Everything else is working, Boss! That's why I wanted you to test it out first!"

"Test it out? Err… Sure I guess… What do I need to do?"

"Just step into the power armour, Boss!"

"Yeah… Err… This is my first time wearing one… So how do I put that on?"

Ries gasped, "Really?! Then… I get to be your first, Boss!"

… You should reconsider your words, Ries… And wasn't I your first?

Ah whatever, she looks so happy right now so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

She took my hand and pulled me closer to the power armour, positioning me behind it.

"Just walk up to it, Boss~" She instructed cheerfully.

Ok… I'm assuming it's supposed to open up or something?

I did as she asked and walked up to the back of the power armour.

Sure enough, when I got close to it, the back of the armour popped open, sliding upwards to give me space to climb in.

Just the back though, so the legs were still closed up but I can see handles inside the torso portion which I assume was there to aid me in climbing in. I guess I need to slide myself in there?

It looks like the interior of the armour was padded as well and not metallic so it shouldn't feel that uncomfortable to be inside so that's nice.

I turned back to Ries, "Do I need to wear something special before going in?"

Ries blinked at me, "Umm… You're not wearing any really baggy clothes so that's fine Boss. There are specialised suits for this but… Well… We don't have them…"

"Does the station sell them?" frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"I'll take a look on the GalNet to see if there is any. Or else we might need to go find a store that sells them."

I turned back to the power armour. Since she said that it's fine…

I grabbed onto them and pulled myself up before sticking one foot through the leg armour and then putting my other foot in the other one.

Dropping into it, I bent my arms in to give them space to slide inside the arms of the power armour and the machine seemed to come to life at that point.

The back armour slid down over my back to close over me and the helmet slid back down to cover my face, encasing me in darkness.

It seems like it was doing an adjustment of some sorts as the pad squeezed over my body to check my size before it pulled back, making it comfortably snug.

The area in front of me then lit up and the words 'Calibrating' appeared.

"--an you hear me now?" Ries's voice came from the side.

"Ah, yes. I can hear you."

"Perfect~ Sound controls are working perfectly… Calibrations are also working fine… Is the HUD working?"

The screen in front of me suddenly changed and a few windows popped up before moving to the edges of my vision, like it was some kind of game UI.

Focusing on them, it seems like it was showing me the status of the power armour and myself.

"Seems like it's working?" I told her.

"Great! The information displayed on them can be changed however you want so if there's something you want to know, you can just bring it up."

"How do I do that?"

"Ah! Just talk to the AI!"

Err… Ok?

"AI?" I tried.

"I am at your service, pilot," A monotonous voice replied from within the helmet.

Ok, that's cool.

"What can you do?"

"I can monitor the status of the suit and the pilot as well as perform autonomous functions using the suit."

"Does that mean you can pilot the suit yourself?"

"Incorrect. It is against my protocol to take direct control over the suit. I can, however, make use of the suit's functions to aid the pilot in preserving their safety while using the suit."

Ries spoke up right then, "There's automatic stims and also sensors built into the suit so the AI can control that and warn you about nearby threats~"

Ohhhh~ Wait a minute…

"AI, are you able to display like… A minimap or something?"

"Please hold. Creating minimap."

A new screen popped up at the top right hand corner of my vision and I realised that it was something like a radar where it showed obstacles in the form of solid colours with me being in the centre.

There was a white dot behind me which I believe was the suit's sensors detecting Ries.

Ries giggled, "Ehehehe~ I knew Boss would be able to adapt to it easily! The calibration should be done now! Try moving!"

I did as she suggested and tried to move myself, first trying to turn back to face Ries.

I was expecting the armour to be slow and clunky but… Wow… It just feels like I'm wearing really thick winter clothes with a helmet covering my face. There was barely any lag in my movements and my freedom of movement isn't that compromised either.

Hey… Can I test this out somewhere?
