Chapter 54: Execution 3

Meanwhile, Oliver sat on a bar in the red-light district consuming what seemed like orange juice.

He was eighteen. So, he was not old enough to drink alcohol.

The legal alcohol consumption age for Federation citizens was twenty. It was two years more than the rest of the world. It was a deliberate choice the government made to prevent teenagers from drinking.

"I want some booze. A beer, perhaps." Oliver muttered while looking at a glass of beer placed near him.

"No, you can’t." The one who was serving was the owner of the bar, Grizzly.

He immediately shot down Oliver’s thought of drinking the beer.

After the Tempus Cult was destroyed, they got closer. Grizzly now knew Oliver’s identity and age. Similarly, Oliver also learned more about Grizzly.

His real name was Daniel, and he was from the Continental Republic, one of the four major powers in the world. Currently, he is a naturalised citizen of the Federation. He had no family and was living within the red-light district as the owner of a bar.

That’s what the public knows. But there was more to his life than what could be seen.

"Come on. I know the drinking age in the Republic is eighteen. I am eighteen years old. So, technically, there is nothing wrong with me drinking."

"No, you can’t. As a law-abiding citizen of the Federation, I can’t allow you to drink."

’What law?’ That was what Oliver wanted to ask, but he gave a quiet stare.

"No." He said again.

"Anyway. Buy better oranges from now on." Oliver said and looked at his watch.

It was already five in the evening.

His parents’ shift was about to end, and he needed to leave soon.

"How long will it take?" He asked.

"She will get here any second now."

"Did you order the right stuff?"

"I am professional. I know what I am doing." Daniel or otherwise known as Grizzly, who was wiping a glass, said proudly.

He didn’t let anyone question his professionalism.

Oliver smiled.

While the black market was filled with scammers and con artists, there were a few like Grizzly who would keep their word. That was why he revealed his identity in front of the guy.

Unlike the others, he was a trustworthy, mild-mannered man and avoided mingling too deeply with the dark side of the city.

After a while, the door swung open, revealing a pretty young woman. Black shorts and a matching jacket accentuated her figure. Her ponytail bounced with each step, and sunglasses masked her expression.

She strode towards the bar counter and dropped the package she was carrying.

The package was a small cardboard box covered in plastic. It didn’t look that important at all, but inside it was a valuable object.

When she dropped it over the counter, she noticed Oliver, who was sitting nearby. She took off the sunglasses and looked at him with a smile.

"How much for one night?" She asked, ignoring Daniel.

The young man next to her was not that pretty, nor was he well dressed. However, she could feel an aura around him that attracted her. For some reason, she felt he was handsome.

"Not for sale." Grizzly broke the silence.

It immediately captured the young woman’s attention.

"Why?" She asked in a disappointed tone.

"Young man. Do you want to spend a night with big sister?"

"Is this woman crazy?" Oliver ignored her and asked Grizzly.

"..." Grizzly gave a silent nod.

"Ha..." Oliver sighed. "Is that mine?"

"Yes." Grizzly handed over the package to Oliver.

Conveniently, there were no other customers in the bar, so Oliver opened the package.

"Don’t ignore me!" Meanwhile, the young woman said in a dejected tone.

As an attractive young woman, she was not used to being ignored.

"Hey!" She turned to Grizzly.

"I will send the payment to your account. You can leave."

"But you should check it before..."

"Huh, then wait."

"Okey!" The young woman hopped on and took a seat nearby while sliding closer to get a better look at Oliver.

"He is handsome." She commented.

"He is your customer," Grizzly replied.

"I wish I were his customer."

"Sigh!"

"How old is he?"

"Eighteen."

"Oh! That’s even better."

"You lecherous fool." Finally, Grizzly cracked. He smashed his fist on her head.

"Ouch!" She held her head and acted pitiful.

The young woman was a superhuman. And she was a strong one at that. That was why she was transporting the valuable item on her own through the red-light district.

She was not really hurt.

Meanwhile, Oliver ripped apart the packaging and activated the device.

It was a small rectangular device with nothing except a screen. It looked like a miniature smartphone, and its function was similar to one.

"How is it?" The young woman asked.

"The condition is good. And it seems to be working."

Oliver was satisfied with the condition of the device.

"Of course it’s working. I had to work extra hard to get this one."

"Can it send about one gigabyte of data?" Oliver asked.

"From the QCM stability rating, it could send about 3GB if you really want to."

"That’s great," Oliver muttered.

The device in his hand was a QCM-based communications device used by military personnel. Usually, the QCM deteriorates fast when it is contained in small form factor devices like mobile phones. Still, few of such devices were made for high-ranking military personnel.

Oliver was thrilled to get his hands on one.

"Are you sure it can connect with phone services?" He asked just to confirm.

"Of course. The military doesn’t disable its receiver. No, simply put, they can’t. Many of the similar phones rely on a single receiver. So, the data would flow through without inhibition." The young woman was well-versed in tech. She patiently explained to her customer while looking at him with lust-filled eyes.

"They could block the signal retransmission."

"That’s why you have me. I have hacked into their systems and spoofed the device ID. You don’t have to worry about anything. It would take a lot more than 3 GB before they noticed unauthorized traffic." She confidently vouched for the usability of the device.
