Blood Nemesis-Chapter 67: Registration 3
Chapter 67: Registration 3
While Oliver was waiting outside, Leon walked into the test chamber. It was a large spherical room with a metallic stele at the center.
The SMB officers were standing behind a glass panel on the other side of the room, observing and giving directions to him.
"Walk forward and place your hand on top of the metal block in front of you." A voice spoke through the speakers attached to the wall of the room.
The room was designed that way to isolate the mana response from the individual. Other people within the room would have caused the measurement device, the stele at the center, to produce erroneous measurement.
Meanwhile, it also acted as a protective barrier that prevented SMB officers from being harmed by the weird and unpredictable abilities of the superhumans.
"Okay." Leon snapped out of surprise and walked towards the stele.
"Yes, stop there and place your hand on top. The device you see before you is the latest of its kind. It can withstand mana of up to one hundred thousand units. Once you are ready, start injecting mana into the device." The proctor said.
Leon followed it and placed his hand on the metallic stele. Immediately, he felt a chilling sensation travelling through his body.
The block of metal before him was cold and lifeless, and yet it was giving him a feeling of unease, as if it could see right through him.
How is it made?
What is it?
The two most obvious questions appeared in his mind.
The inner workings of the device were not publicly disclosed. Only the government and a few of its creators knew how it worked.
Hiding his apprehension, Leon slowly began to pump his mana into the metallic stele.
With each passing second, the stele began to glow in pale blue light.
After what seemed like a minute or so, Leon injected all five hundred and sixty-four units of mana inside his body.
"D - Rank"
Immediately, his rank was displayed on a wide-screen monitor in front of him. However, the line of text just below it was still showing a loading animation.
’What is my potential?’ He gazed at it with expectation.
The potential was the factor that dictated how strong he could become. He wanted to know it immediately.
"Your mana levels are that of a D ranker. It is good considering you are a young man." The officer on the other side of the glass panel said.
"Now, your potential is going to be measured. Take your hand off the mana measurement device and wait. Once you do that, the spherical room you are in will begin to create mana waves. It might make you feel a little nauseous, so try to bear with it. If you can’t and feel like vomiting, use the plastic container to your right." The man warned.
"Okay," Leon replied and took off his arm from the stele.
Soon after, he felt the mana radiating from all around him. The mana felt familiar to him, as if it were his own.
No, it was not just a feeling.
It was his mana.
The hexagonal panels attached to the inner surface of the spherical room were radiating his mana into his body.
Just like the officer said, he felt queasy.
He could feel the breakfast he had eaten tumbling inside his stomach, trying to escape through his mouth.
However, Leon bit his lip and stood in discomfort.
The officers proctoring the exam were surprised. They could see the live display before them showing a graph moving in a steady upward trend.
The y-axis lines that marked the potential of E, D, and C were crossed within seconds, and it was steadily climbing to the B rank.
No, by the looks of it, it might just pass over to A rank, the limit of what the device could measure.
Considering nothing else, A ranked superhuman was rare. They are considered some of the strongest people in the world. So, they are treated with respect everywhere.
And now, A new A-ranker was about to be born.
Although the potential measurement just talked about the chance of the person before him becoming an A ranker, it was almost a given outcome if the person didn’t die.
The officers took a deep breath and waited.
Finally, after a few more seconds, the mana radiating from the room stopped.
Leon felt the world return to clarity as he gazed at the bright screen inside the room. He read the words displayed in it carefully.
"Potential Grade - A"
The device was only capable of measuring a potential up to A grade. And he got the highest score possible.
He was ecstatic.
Leon wanted to jump up and scream.
In his entire life, this was the luckiest he has been.
After his parents’ deaths, his older sister raised him. However, a few months ago, she was injured in a work accident on the Second Earth and was hospitalised. Even now, she was in a coma, not showing any improvement.
While the medicines of the world could almost heal all injuries, it couldn’t heal the mind of a person.
So, he had to patiently wait until she woke up.
However, the hospital bill was so exorbitant that he was finding it difficult to pay, even while working multiple manual labor jobs.
That was why he had to borrow money from the young master Chen.
The young master was not a nice person. After borrowing money from him, the young master haunted him like a ghost ever since, often bullying and making fun of him.
He was at the end of his wits.
So, the potential grade that showed A was a blessing to him.
If he worked hard, he could find a way out of his miserable situation.
He might be able to save his sister.
Unlike what Oliver had expected, the kid named Leon was fortunate.
Leon smiled gleefully and looked at the screen again and again, making sure that it was not a mistake.
"A rank potential. Young man, that’s great. It is something worth being happy about." The officer said, then he continued. "But the test is not over. Wait a few more minutes. Show us your ability. We have to register it before giving you the ID."
When they talked about ability, his face suddenly darkened.
