Chapter 129: Navigating the City Streets ( 129 )

As Ellyn entered the grand royal dining hall, the scent of fresh bread, roasted meats, and spiced tea filled the air. The long table was already set, and several of her older brothers were lounging in their chairs, halfway through their breakfast.

One of them looked up and smirked.

"Ohhh, here comes the future bride~"

Ellyn stuck her tongue out at him before plopping into her seat with a dramatic "Hmmph!"

Another brother leaned forward with a grin.

"Ahaha~ Ellyna in her kid form again. Or shall we say... Ellyn~?"

"Hmmph!!" she repeated, now crossing her arms.

"Oho~ sulking little brat."

"I’m not a brat!" Ellyn shot back.

"But you look like one," her third brother added, biting into a flaky pastry. "You sure your ’fiancé’ isn’t into younger girls?"

Ellyn’s cheeks puffed, her tail snapping side to side.

"Uncle treats me with respect! Okay!?" she snapped.

The brothers snickered.

Queen Meira, sipping her tea at the head of the table, didn’t even look up.

"Boys... don’t provoke your sister while she’s trying to eat."

"She started it," one muttered.

"I heard that," Meira added flatly.

The table went quiet for a moment as Ellyn triumphantly reached for her milk.

"...Still looks like a brat though," someone whispered.

"I HEARD THAT TOO!!"

King Lioness III looked up from his plate, his golden eyes settling on his daughter across the table.

"Now, Ellyna... eat some meat."

Ellyn blinked. "But Father—"

"Just one slice." His tone was gentle but final. "Better to go outside with something in your stomach."

Ellyn pouted, arms folded. "Fine..."

A nearby royal maid stepped forward with grace, placing a perfectly sliced portion of seasoned meat onto her plate.

Ellyn stared at it.

Then, slowly picking it up with her fork, she munched on it half-heartedly.

Her ears twitched.

Her eyes lit up.

It was delicious.

She leaned sideways toward the maid and whispered, "...Another slice."

The maid bowed silently and returned with another portion.

From across the table, King Lioness just smirked.

So did her brothers.

Queen Meira didn’t even look up from her tea, but a faint, knowing smile played on her lips.

The whole family said nothing.

But the shared amusement was louder than words.

Ellyn glared at them.

"...Stop smiling like that!!"

Ellyn eyed the platter longingly.

The meat was calling to her.

Just one more slice... maybe two... maybe—

No!

She clenched her tiny fist, steeling herself.

She had a mission.

"Uncle’s gonna treat me today," she muttered under her breath. "I can’t get full here..."

She stood up, her tail swishing behind her.

"Alright! Time to go!!"

From the head of the table, Queen Meira looked up. "Be careful."

"I will!!" Ellyn grinned.

King Lioness leaned slightly toward Faria, his tone low and commanding.

"Faria... make sure you follow her. And protect her well."

Faria bowed slightly. "Yes, Your Majesty."

"The Royal Elite Assassins—they’ve already been deployed, yes?"

Faria nodded. "They’re in position. Along with several high-ranking elite royal guards stationed along her route in disguise."

"Good." Lioness’s tone grew colder. "Do not make a mistake."

Faria placed a hand over her heart and bowed lower.

"As you command, Your Majesty."

Ellyn was already halfway down the hall, humming happily, her steps light.

"Breakfast, lunch, and dinner~ On Uncle’s wallet today~"

In the town...

"Are you sure this is the Merchant Guild, Ridan?" Hazuki asked, arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently.

Ridan floated beside the building lazily. "Of course. Big fancy sign, marble steps, people with money? It checks out."

Hazuki grumbled, glancing up at the closed doors.

"Then why isn’t it open yet!? We’ve been waiting for over an hour!"

Ridan yawned mid-air. "Try asking someone passing by what time they open."

Hazuki sighed. "Fine."

He turned to the street and spotted a beastkin walking by.

"Umm, excuse me—" Hazuki stepped forward and smiled politely.

The passerby gave him a brief glance... then quickly picked up their pace.

Hazuki blinked.

They looked back once—at Hazuki talking to literally nothing—then hurried faster.

"...Seriously?"

Ridan snickered. "Maybe next time, try not yelling at invisible ghosts in public."

"I’m not yelling! I’m—explaining."

"To the wind."

Hazuki sighed and leaned against the closed guild door.

"This world is hard for people with social problems and ghost friends..."

"Uncle?"

"Wha—! Oh, Ellyn." Hazuki looked up from where he was sitting on the stone steps, still tapping his leg like an anxious puppy.

Meanwhile, Ellyn had already opened telepathy to Ridan—her voice crisp and casual in the spirit’s mind.

"What’s the problem?"

Ridan floated above Hazuki like a frustrated storm cloud.

"This idiot’s been waiting an hour in front of this building."

"Oh... the Merchant Guild?" Ellyn blinked.

"They’re closed this week. Renovation and some internal arrangements."

"Tell this dumbass."

"Uncle?" Ellyn called out sweetly.

"Hmm?" Hazuki blinked up at her.

"Why do you want to go to the Merchant Guild?"

"To sell something."

Ellyn tilted her head, her tail curling behind her. "Oh? Can I take a look?"

Without a second thought, Hazuki casually reached into his bag and pulled out the portable magic pouch.

"This one."

Ellyn’s eyes sparkled.

"Oh! A portable magic pouch?" she exclaimed, already rummaging inside with zero hesitation.

"Whoa!!" she gasped. "Rings, accessories... is this an Arcwizard staff!?"

Hazuki blinked. "...Is that good?"

Ellyn pulled out a gleaming short sword. "What’s with the weapons? Dagger, blade, even a short sword..."

She reached deeper and pulled out a high-quality armored chest piece, inspecting the ornate engraving.

"And what’s with this used armor!?" she added. "Not to mention—it’s high quality! Where did you get all this!??"

Hazuki scratched his head. "Uhh... vines, trees, monsters... random weirdos?"

Ridan floated nearby, arms crossed. "I’m telling you, this guy’s basically looting legendary drops like a dumpster diver."

"By the way, Uncle," Ellyn said, brushing off her dress as she stood beside him.

"Hmm?" Hazuki looked up, still tapping his heel absentmindedly.

"The Merchant Guild is closed this week. Minor renovation and some internal arrangements."

Hazuki froze.

"Seriously!!?" he shouted, nearly falling backward off the stair. "I waited here for a whole hour!!"

"Yes..." Ellyn replied, her lips twitching with amusement.

Hazuki groaned, flopping backward. "Ughhh... now where the hell am I gonna sell this stuff?"

Before he could wallow any further, Ellyn gave a mischievous grin—and without hesitation, climbed up onto his shoulder, sitting down like she’d claimed her rightful perch.

"I know this capital city~" she chirped. "Let me show you the right shop that buys this kind of loot."

Hazuki blinked. "Oh... okay then. Lead the way, kid captain."

Ridan floated alongside, smirking.

"Look at you, a mighty adventurer being led around by a tiny catgirl sitting on your shoulder."

Hazuki rolled his eyes. "Don’t make it weird."

"You’re already carrying a talking child and a floating ghost. It’s already weird."
