Chapter 130: Through the Alleyways ( 130 )

As they strolled through the busy capital streets, Hazuki glanced up at the little girl riding comfortably on his shoulder.

"Ellyn?"

"Yes, Uncle?" Ellyn leaned forward slightly, her eyes blinking down at him, her tail swaying behind.

"What’s with the fancy dress today?" he asked casually.

"H-Huh!?" Ellyn stiffened. "N-No! It’s not fancy at all! This is... this is from a cheap bargain bin for k-kids!"

Hazuki squinted up at her. "Oh? Really?"

"Y-Yeah." She nodded rapidly, her cheeks puffing out. "Totally commoner-grade!"

"Must be nice, huh. How much was it?"

Ellyn glanced around nervously. "Fifteen copper! Yep. Fifteen. Very cheap. Bargain of the century!"

"Still kinda expensive to me," Hazuki muttered, scratching his cheek.

Ellyn giggled. "Uncle, you’re weird."

Beside her, Ridan floated silently, smirking. He glanced at Ellyn and spoke directly through telepathy, his voice echoing lightly in her mind.

"Fifteen copper, huh, Princess? I think that dress costs at least a gold coin. Probably more."

Ellyn twitched slightly and hissed back, still through telepathy.

"Shhh! Don’t tell him! You can’t tell him I’m a princess! Not now!"

"Huh? Even if I wanted to, I can’t tell him anyway," Ridan replied, eyes half-lidded.

"It’d mess up his mission."

Ellyn blinked. "Mission?"

There was a pause.

Ridan’s eyes widened slightly.

"Ah—nothing!" he said too fast, then started whistling telepathically and floated away quickly, spiraling like an awkward leaf.

Ellyn just stared at him.

Hazuki looked up. "Something wrong?"

Ellyn snapped back. "N-Nope! Everything’s fine, Uncle~!"

Hazuki shrugged and kept walking.

Meanwhile, in her mind, Ellyn was already plotting to corner Ridan later.

"So where to?" Hazuki asked, glancing up at the little weight currently grabbing onto his hair.

"Straight from here, Uncle!" Ellyn chirped, pointing ahead proudly like a commander.

"Oh, okay. Are you sure you know the way?"

"Of course!" She giggled. "I’m from this town, remember?"

"If you say so..." Hazuki muttered, adjusting his pace. "By the way, this is the capital city for the Beastkin Kingdom, right?"

"Yes!" Ellyn nodded, her golden ears perking.

"What’s the name of this town?" he asked, curious.

"Pawston." Ellyn puffed her chest out proudly.

"Oh. Nice... it’s huge!!" Hazuki said, his eyes darting to the bustling streets and massive, gleaming towers in the distance.

Ellyn just giggled, still perched on his shoulder like a smug little empress.

Meanwhile, Ridan floated lazily beside them, smirking. He switched to telepathy, speaking directly into Ellyn’s mind.

"Oho~ Looks like a lot of your guards and even the elite assassin unit are trailing you, huh?"

"I didn’t want it!" Ellyn replied, pouting mentally.

"Father and Mother insisted! Because I got kidnapped before..."

"Yeah, yeah..." Ridan hummed, spinning midair.

"Royal kid problems."

"Just don’t tell Hazuki about it," Ellyn added.

"Why would I tell this idiot?" Ridan snickered. "It’s not like he’s gonna believe me anyway."

Hazuki, feeling the sudden silence, looked up suspiciously.

"Ellyn?"

"Hmm?" Ellyn blinked innocently down at him.

"Why so quiet?"

"Ah—nothing, Uncle! Nothing at all!" she said quickly, forcing a bright smile.

Hazuki narrowed his eyes but shrugged.

He glanced at Ridan next, noticing the spirit floating unusually calmly beside them.

"And you, Ridan? Why so silent all of a sudden?"

Ridan crossed his cloudy arms.

"Huh!!? If I talk too much, people will think you’re crazy again." He floated dramatically ahead.

"I’m doing you a favor, dumbass."

"Now, from here, go left!" Ellyn pointed eagerly down a narrow alleyway tucked between two buildings.

Hazuki stopped dead in his tracks, his eye twitching.

"Oi! Are you sure this is the way!? Sounds fishy as hell!"

Ellyn tilted her head innocently. "Hmm? Of course, it’s safe! This is where Old Man Grimon opened his shop."

Hazuki squinted into the gloom.

"Huh? How the hell does he even get customers opening a business in this kind of alley?!"

He shuddered. "The whole vibe’s the same as the creepy alley back in the human capital..."

Hazuki’s steps slowed as the memory resurfaced.

"Where I met that weird blacksmith... what was his name again? Oh right—Hesbeirn. The skinny blacksmith who sold me that sword..."

Beside him, Ridan suddenly jolted mid-air.

The spirit’s floating form twitched for a split second, his usual lazy spin freezing.

It was subtle—but Hazuki caught it.

"Hmm? What’s wrong, Ridan?" Hazuki asked, frowning.

Ridan immediately snapped back into a casual float, forcing a big, fake grin, waving his arms like an overexcited balloon.

"Nothing! Nothing at all! We’re almost there, dumbass! Focus! Big loot! Big money! Woo!"

He spun a little too fast, pretending to be excited.

Hazuki’s eyes narrowed suspiciously.

He continued walking, but slower now, clearly watching Ridan out of the corner of his eye. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Weird ass ghost," Hazuki muttered.

From above, several hidden elite guards and assassins trailed silently, ensuring Princess Ellyn’s safety—but keeping their distance.

Meanwhile, Ellyn just hummed cheerfully on his shoulder, pretending she saw and heard nothing—while secretly filing away every little clue.

"Just up there, Uncle!!" Ellyn chirped, pointing excitedly.

"Where?" Hazuki asked, looking around.

"That shop!" she said, her small hand jabbing toward a large, fancy-looking building down the alley—its wide glass windows gleaming and golden signs hanging proudly above the doors.

Hazuki squinted.

"Oi! That doesn’t look like a shop for selling loot!" he said, his voice rising in panic.

"Hmm? No~" Ellyn tilted her head innocently. "But I’m sure he’ll buy stuff!"

"Wha!?" Hazuki groaned, slapping his forehead. "Ellyn!!"

"Tehe~" she stuck her tongue out playfully.

Hazuki sighed dramatically. "Ugh! Fine—but if he refuses to buy anything, I’m blaming you!"

"Don’t worry! He won’t!" Ellyn said brightly, already sliding off Hazuki’s shoulder with a graceful hop.

Without hesitation, she pushed open the fancy shop door and strolled inside casually, her little feet clicking on the polished marble floor.

Inside, the shop was warm and filled with the scent of exotic woods and old parchment. Rows of ornate weaponry, jewelry, magical artifacts, and potions lined the walls, glowing faintly under enchanted lights.

Behind the wide front counter, an old beastkin man with salt-and-pepper fur looked up.

"Grandpa Grimmon!!" Ellyn called out happily.

The old man’s face lit up—

"Ah, Prin—!"

Ellyn’s eyes widened sharply, and she signaled wildly with both hands—Don’t say it!

Grimmon immediately clamped his mouth shut, coughing into his hand.

Meanwhile, Ridan floated casually next to Ellyn, grinning mischievously. He leaned closer, using telepathy so only Ellyn could hear.

"Oho~ You almost got called out~ Princess~"

Ellyn shot him a mental glare.

Hazuki, oblivious to the silent chaos, wandered in, staring up at the beautiful chandeliers.

"Whoa... this place is loaded!" he muttered.

"...Are you sure this guy wants my junk?"

Ellyn turned around with her brightest, most innocent smile.

"Don’t worry, Uncle~ Grandpa Grimmon’s very generous!"

Grimmon just smiled politely... sweating slightly behind the counter.
