Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 220: Young Love
Chapter 220: Young Love
"Your answer is NO!"
Again! Violet understood what he meant even though he didn’t say it.
"My-my answer is not right now!" she responded, a bit alarmed by how much warmer the air had suddenly become compared to before. It was enough that it wasn’t something she could simply ignore.
"Ca-Cain!" she began to speak, stretching her hands out to touch him, only to feel him lean away. His expression was dark, but the anger brimming in his gaze was enough to almost make her flinch back again as he moved to walk past her, heading toward the bed.
He had previously wrapped a robe over his body, but now, as he moved toward the bed and sat on it while beckoning for her to come closer, he slowly took it off.
"Cain!" Violet gasped, only for his gaze to grow more impatient as she heard him speak in a colder tone than before.
"We’re just going to sleep, nothing more!" he said. Violet didn’t believe him as she continued to stand where she was until she felt his gaze darken even more with impatience—one that said if he had to get up and pull her closer himself, she wouldn’t like it...not one bit.
Finally, Violet stepped forward and right into his arms, surprised to feel him dive into the bed, hugging her waist and closing his eyes without doing anything else. His face was buried in her hair, his grip tight enough that even if she wanted to jerk away from him, she couldn’t. She softly heard his breathing even out a few seconds later, showing that he was fast asleep.
The feeling of being in his arms felt nice, and Violet had no idea when she suddenly dozed off, only to wake up and discover that she was alone.
Yet she had barely sat up when her first reaction was to check her legs to ensure that the chain still attached to the walls hadn’t been bound to her ankles.
Right after, without missing a breath, she bolted toward the door, wearing nothing but the white shirt she had on. She pulled it open, half-expecting to have been locked in, only to be shocked to see that she wasn’t, as the door swung open.
He didn’t lock me in... Unable to hold in her surprise, she quickly shut the door before any guards could catch a full glimpse of her half-undressed state.
Violet couldn’t help but feel relieved as she wondered where Cain had gone. She headed toward the bathroom to take a bath.
It wasn’t until she was done bathing, had dried her body, and had put on a black pair of pants and a yellow top, tying her dark hair—which had grown much longer—up into a bun, that she stepped out. Aware that the way they had ended things wasn’t good, she still intended to explain herself as she recalled Cain’s reaction to what she had said. She paused at the entrance of the room when she met Uva, who stood with a trolley of food.
Violet instantly opened the door wider and allowed her in with a greeting, expecting her to leave right after, only to be taken aback when she heard Uva speak.
"Lord Cain has given me permission to teach you whatever you want, but I have to warn you...due to coven rules, what I can teach you is extremely limited."
"Whatever I learned was learned at the coven and from High Witches. It’s a rule to ensure that young witches have some affiliation to the coven!" Uva explained with a severe expression on her face, aware that if Violet weren’t a witch, she wouldn’t have even been able to mention ’Coven’ so many times without fear of suddenly dying mysteriously without knowing how. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
At first, Violet was stunned, unable to speak, before excitement settled in a few minutes later at the thought that she could learn anything from Uva.
But a few seconds later, as she wondered why Cain had suddenly given the instruction, she heard Uva speak again and finally understood what Cain’s intention was.
"Lord Cain has also given permission that you be allowed to step out at any time you want...and be driven to any place you need."
"With me by your side, of course!" Uva added as she spoke, even as Violet’s eyes widened in shock and alarm at the same time, just as worry and anxiety settled in her chest.
The fact that Cain was giving her freedom only meant one of two things, neither of which brought a smile to her face.
One, he was giving her the chance to run away if she wanted and no longer cared about what she did.
Two...he no longer cared about her safety or protection, since if she stepped out and was blown to pieces...then that was also fine with him.
This made her frown, her gaze directed toward the door as she wondered where Cain had gone. Again, Uva answered her question almost as if she had read her mind—something Violet intended to ask about at a later date.
"Lord Cain ate the moment he woke up and complained about a headache, which I checked out and prescribed a potion for."
"He laid down for a while and had just left the mansion!"
"He has also instructed that the room at the end of the hall be prepared for him for when he returns. He will no longer be sleeping here!" Uva said with a mostly blank expression on her face, stamping down the urge to release a huge sigh as she watched the shock and bewilderment that appeared on Violet’s face.
A crestfallen look, as if someone had just slapped her a couple of times—and worse, Uva wasn’t too sure Violet herself was aware of how she looked as she struggled to nod her head while pretending not to be affected by what Uva had just told her.
Young love...it can’t be so hard, can it? Uva wondered to herself. She had never experienced it, having mostly spent her life at the coven before finding an opportunity to leave and never return. Now, she couldn’t help but be a little curious.
...maybe I should stop throwing away Trivet’s flowers! she thought as she realized that the awkwardness of the doctor whenever he met her was quite endearing.
"Thank you! You can leave... I’d rather be—" Violet tried to say how much she’d like to be alone, only for Uva to shake her head.
"I’ll send a servant to pick up the food. We can eat outside this morning, and I can also start our lessons. I know a good restaurant. Their morning toast is to die for..." Uva said, unwilling to let go of the chance to go out since she herself hadn’t been able to step out since Lord Vazer—the one who had hired her—had sent her to Lord Cain’s mansion with enough money that she was willing to risk her life.
Uva’s face was currently young, and she even went as far as to behave that way as she pulled Violet before she could refuse, dragging her toward the door.
"You can watch me eat...if you want!" she said as she pulled her out the door while sending a servant to pick up the food trolley on the way out.
