Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 221: Revenge
Chapter 221: Revenge
Violet didn’t mind walking, but Uva wasn’t having it, pointing out how it would look if the guards also had to follow behind them as they walked. It was like announcing who they were, even though they had both changed their faces and eye colors to look normal and not stand out in any manner.
Violet didn’t argue and simply got into the car, relieved but also surprised to note that even the guards following behind them were just two.
What’s Cain thinking? she wondered to herself as she leaned against the door, looking out as the car slowly drove out of the mansion. She also wondered where she could have gone, thinking about the main reason why he would suddenly give her the freedom she had yearned for while distancing himself from her at the same time. He had gone as far as to get a different room for himself.
He can’t expect me to honestly agree to a mate bond, can he? she wondered, aware that breaking it would be disastrous in ways that could even kill her. She was confident that Cain could survive anything short of a meteor shower on Earth.
Even recalling his expression the night before pissed her off as she remembered how he had looked at her when she stepped back from him, shaking her head.
God! Who the hell asks someone they’ve recently referred to as a slave for a mate bond? She was aware that only someone like Cain could dare to do something like that. She was more worried about the slight expression of hurt she had seen in his eyes just before he wiped it off to show a completely blank look.
He gave me what I want, so I definitely don’t mind sleeping with him! she thought to herself, only to frown as she realized that she wasn’t sure if Cain would even want to touch her, considering the fact that he had gone as far as to change rooms.
Ahhh! Unconsciously, she raised her hands to rub her forehead the harder she thought about it, even as she tried to figure out the best way to continue interacting with Cain.
She enjoyed sleeping with him, but did she love him? No. She was still aware that she wasn’t in love, considering the fact that she felt none of those butterflies she had read about—nothing but anxiety and tension in her stomach every time he was close to her. It didn’t help that last night she had indeed thought that she was about to die.
He fucking lifted me off the ground... this is abuse! She was aware that if she pretended not to see it, there would be one day when he would go farther and not mean to, but she would be dead. freewebnσvel.cøm
This isn’t healthy... getting a mate bond with him... it’s like marriage, but this time around, I could never leave without being faced with excruciating pain!
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she felt until she wasn’t even aware when she groaned out loud, only to be tapped on the shoulder by Uva, who had been watching with fascination and interest.
...Maybe this isn’t actually something I need! I’m too old to be acting like this! Uva thought, aware of why Violet was behaving the way she was, even as she went ahead to ignore it.
"We’ve arrived!" Uva announced, tapping Violet on her shoulder just before they stepped out of the car. Violet stepped out from her own side and closed the door behind her, her eyes widening in fascination as she fixed her gaze on the restaurant, which was not only beautiful but also looked clean. She was surprised to see that there were even guards stationed in front of it.
"Who’s paying?" Violet immediately asked, only to watch Uva shake her head as she stepped forward, walking toward the restaurant.
"You, of course! You’re the Lord’s lover!" A jab of fear trailed down Violet’s back as she stepped back, only to hear Uva chuckle in response as she gestured for her to catch up.
"Of course, the guards would pay!" she responded in a matter-of-fact tone as she stepped in, wearing a black gown that looked proper for the place compared to the black pants and yellow top Violet had on.
Violet was surprised when the guards treated her with the same respect they gave Uva as she stepped in. They were instantly assigned a seat upstairs, but Uva simply waved them off, choosing instead to sit by the window downstairs.
"Upstairs seems better!" Violet pointed out.
"Yes! It’s VIP, but the windows are all closed. Very boring!" Uva responded in a way that brought a smile to Violet’s face, wondering how such an old woman could act so simply with a great sense of humor too.
They each picked up the menu, Violet scrolling her eyes through it as she mentally chose what she wanted before the waiter returned. Suddenly, she heard the sharp ding of the restaurant door being opened, which meant that new people were walking in.
Curious, Violet had just raised her head when the menu she held in her hands unconsciously dropped back to the table, her mouth hanging open in complete shock.
Walking past her was her father, Luke; her mother, June; Sarah; and Oliver—four people who looked completely different from the last time she had seen them, when they had willingly stood by and watched her get sold. Apart from that, they were also dressed really well, in clothes that had to have cost more than she had ever earned in her life.
The shock had barely worn off when the anger began to rise as she realized that while she had been rotting in a cell, they had not only sold the things she stole from Cain but had used it to give themselves a much better life, without sparing a single thought to her well-being.
In anger, Violet had just leaped off the table, about to intercept them, when Uva also leaped up and held her arm tightly enough to stop her, communicating with her gaze for her to sit back down.
"Hey—" Violet shouted, but Uva was already speaking as she also stood, pressing hard against her arm.
"We’re not leaving yet! Relax and sit down. You’ll feel better once you’ve eaten!"
But Violet’s body shook simply from the memory of it all as she directed her anger at Uva, whom she was convinced had no idea what was going on, only to hear Uva whisper into her ear as she leaned forward.
"Whatever they have done... you’re wearing a different face right now! Changing it to a different one requires magic," Uva whispered to her. "Magic I don’t have yet..." she said, especially since she had used all her reserves on walking through the wall and delivering food to her.
Realizing that teaching Violet the basics of magic and how it was formed had to be the priority for her to know better than to waste it.
But although Violet sat back down and listened, the last thing she was in the mood for was a lesson. Her gaze was fixed on her family, who smiled at each other and settled on a table right next to them by the window.
Anger boiled in her eyes even as she lowered her head and stared at the menu she had dropped back on the table.
"I’m guessing you know—" Uva began to say, only for her eyes to widen in astonishment when Violet interrupted before she could finish speaking.
"...They’re my family!" Violet said in the lowest of whispers, having settled down enough to care about not being overheard.
"But that’s impossible!" Uva said, and Violet simply raised her head and nodded vigorously, a bitter smile on her face.
"Yes, but I didn’t know that. What I was told was that I took after my grandparents’ genes!" Violet continued with a hollow laugh, unable to help but glance over at their table as she watched them laugh over what they were going to order. She ground her teeth together to stop herself from lashing out right there and then.
"The-they sold me!" Violet continued, slumping in her chair as the waiter came closer and took their orders, which Violet automatically responded to, no longer in the mood to speak but aware that Uva wouldn’t like to eat alone.
"When I ran away, I went to them, and they sold me..." But she was barely done speaking, even as Uva listened attentively with a sly look in her eyes, smiling almost as if they were having the simplest of conversations.
"...Okay, so how are you getting revenge?" Uva asked, almost as if it were the easiest thing in the world and something Violet should already have planned.
