Chapter 49: Chapter 47: Worse Than Beasts

In the dormitory, Ella Turner opened the door, grabbed the handle, and stood straight at the entrance, waiting for Elijah Reed to finish visiting the patient.

However, Elijah said to her, "Classmate, you go take your exam! I’ll leave later and will close the door."

Hearing that Elijah was going to stay, Ella looked very troubled and stammered, "Assistant Reed, this isn’t right! Maya is a girl, and besides, last time there was a scandal involving you two."

"You know it was a scandal, would I really misbehave with my BOSS’s sister?"

Elijah stayed to apologize for the scandal last time. After the incident, he hid far away and didn’t come out to clear up the misunderstanding between them.

He didn’t want to clarify because he was afraid he’d have to explain that he took Maya to the hotel because she was drugged, and to the hospital to check for AIDS; such an explanation would only make things worse, so he resigned himself to bearing this black pot.

Luckily, the BOSS trusted him and didn’t question him, otherwise, he would have been implicated.

Standing at the entrance, Ella listened to Elijah’s words and was too embarrassed to guard against him anymore. Meanwhile, she thought maybe Assistant Reed was indeed Maya’s boyfriend, which is why Maya’s brother suddenly started being kind to her.

So, she closed the door and left first.

In the dormitory, Elijah bent over, pulled back Maya’s veil, and carefully said, "Miss Maya, I’m sorry about what happened last time! Leaving it for you to face alone."

Maya, who was in deep sleep, didn’t hear anything or notice her veil being pulled back.

Elijah looked at Maya’s flushed little face, thinking she was stifled by the veil, he quickly reached his big hand behind her neck, gently lifted her head, and removed the veil.

When he removed the veil, he discovered bruises all over Maya’s neck,

Instantly, Elijah’s breath stopped; he’s a man, he recognized these marks instantly.

Afterward, he took a deep breath, and his trembling right hand touched Maya’s forehead, finding it very hot, clearly indicating she was sick.

He was also startled by the marks on her body; he had never seen any woman so badly injured afterward, even her chin had a bite mark.

Out of concern and curiosity, Elijah swallowed hard and gently rolled up Maya’s sleeves; the sight was horrifying. There wasn’t a single patch of unblemished skin, with hickey marks, bite marks, and whip marks.

Instantly, Elijah exploded, tightly clenched his fists, and cursed, "Beast, truly a beast, to treat a girl so harshly."

At this moment, Elijah wished he could capture the culprit and flay him alive, slice him into thousands of pieces.

Then, he pulled up her pants and the clothes around her waist.’

Seeing the injuries on Maya’s body, Elijah felt pained for her, wondering how anyone could be so ruthless, leaving no good skin. He feared the injuries in places he couldn’t see were even worse!

Elijah looked at the sleeping girl in bed, felt a surge of protective care, gently patted her little hand, and asked, "Miss Maya, are you okay?"

After calling out several times, with no response from Maya, Elijah realized she wasn’t asleep but passed out.

He couldn’t just ignore her or stand by and do nothing, so he picked her up and left the room, even forgetting to close the door.

Maya’s injuries were too sensitive to call a doctor to the school, so he could only carry her and take her to the hospital.

Along the way, he cursed Hannah and her mother a hundred times over, thinking this must have been their handiwork. How could it be that the few days he was away, Miss Maya was bullied? If he had known, he would have had someone watch over Miss Maya and not let her get hurt.

In an instant, Elijah was full of guilt, feeling it was his fault for not protecting Maya well, unwittingly thinking that, even if he hadn’t gone on a business trip, even if he stayed in S City, Maya would still have gone through this.

Because the man worse than a beast was his BOSS.

In the hospital, as the doctor examined Maya, he cursed Elijah thoroughly, saying, "Are you even human? How can a little girl endure this torment? Are you trying to kill her? Look at her, the whole body, there isn’t a patch of good skin, even the toes weren’t spared."

"Doctor, I told you, it wasn’t me; I just brought her for a check-up." Elijah was almost drowning in accusations, thinking when Maya wakes up, he’ll find out who the culprit is and torture them a hundred times.

"Still denying! I think this matter needs to be reported to the police; this girl is clearly raped."

"Alright! Report it! I also want to find out who the beast is." Elijah seemed fearless, finally gaining a modicum of trust from the doctor.

After the doctor applied medicine to Maya, they moved her to a luxury suite, hanging a nutrition drip, saying if it weren’t for Elijah’s timely appearance, this girl would have burned up.

In the sick room, Elijah watched the barely breathing Maya, never leaving her side, keeping his eyes on her, afraid that if he let his guard down, someone might come to bully her again, making him forget to call Liam Spencer to report their whereabouts.

Not until noon did Maya slowly awaken from her dream, opening her eyes to see Elijah sitting beside her, staring at her.

Instantly, Maya got angry, suddenly sitting upright on the bed, pointing at the door, yelling at Elijah, "Get out! Get out! You get out!"

Elijah was bewildered by Maya’s shouting, completely in the dark, not understanding why Miss Maya was being so harsh to him.

He was so frightened, he stood up from the chair, pitifully said, "Miss Maya, what’s wrong? I am Elijah! I’m not a bad person."

"Get out, get out!" At this moment, Maya, like a madwoman, slammed the bed, shouting hoarsely.

Seeing Elijah reminded Maya of last night’s Liam, who said many harsh words to her.

Didn’t he say to never appear before him again? But what was going on with Elijah, why was his assistant in front of her, thus Maya couldn’t stay calm, emotionally losing control and shouting at Elijah.

"Miss Maya, don’t get too agitated; I’m not a bad person. Tell me who bullied you, who gave you these injuries, and I’ll help you beat them." Elijah raised both hands, showing a gesture of surrender, backing up while soothing Maya’s emotions.

Listening to Elijah’s comforting, Maya finally heard from his speech that he really didn’t know anything.

She grabbed the pillow beside her, holding it tightly in her arms, muttering incessantly, "Get out! I don’t want to see anyone."

"Miss Maya, please don’t be like this, it’s really frightening; if you have something to say, talk to me, I’ll definitely help you." Elijah raised his hands, slowly moved forward, wanting to get close to Maya, to hear her grievances, to learn who the perpetrator was.
