Two humanoid women stood on the roofs of two bone huts, separated from each other by the sandy walkway in between the two huts.

One of the women was Stella, with fair tan skin, curvy body, and cute bunny ears at the top of her head to decorate her short brown hair. Her big eyes stared at the other woman with caution, her legs, the strongest part of her body, tensed and her thigh muscles tightened.

The two bone huts were about the same height as they had both belonged to wolves. So the two women were more or less standing on even ground.

However, compared to this other woman, Stella looked short.

The other woman stood at a height of six feet and three inches. Whereas Stella was just above five feet by a few inches, still far from the standard six feet height of the lions.

This woman had smooth dark brown skin that was only blemished by the runic tattoos running all over.

Her arms and legs were strings and had the right amount of muscles to keep her feminine appearance. Her hips curved out of her waist like a drawn bow, complementing her powerful thighs.

Currently, she stood with her two arms behind her, seemingly not bothered by the rising panic within her settlement.

Her head was shaved, a peculiar trait that Stella took notice of. She had never considered shaving her hair to make space for her runes.

Another thing she took note of was the two lion ears beside the woman's head as well as the whip-like lion tail behind her.

'A lioness,'

"Who are you?" Stella asked. She relaxed after realizing that this was a Magus Lioness, a practitioner of magic like her.

Surely, this person had to have some level of intelligence and rationality to be able to reason with.

"N'bayé," The woman said, neither smiling nor frowning. Something seemed to be on her mind as she glanced at the roof she was standing on.

Those eyes of hers, they flashed from the regular yellow-brown color to deep red. Occasionally, crimson runic circles would appear in her eyes, rotating rapidly as she stared at something.

Now, she glanced down at the roof she stood on. The roof itself was very crude, made of branches, dried long leaves pulled on each other, and some bones. This type of roof provided little to no protection against the rain or worse.

Still, what caught N'bayé's attention was the slim wooden barrel poking out of the side of the bone hut. This wooden barrel already had a damaged tip from shooting out those teeth bullets.

"Did you make this?" N'bayé asked telepathically. Her tone was calm but barely hid her curiosity and desire to learn.

Stella noticed this and nodded, "Yes I did,"

"What do you call it?" N'bayé asked.

"I don't have a name for them yet," Stella said truthfully.

"Hmm," N'bayé nodded. This magic contraption really got her attention. She had also made long-ranged attack runes and complex items but the mode of attack was usually electric blasts or any of the other violent elements.

She had never thought of using hard materials as projectiles, it was a foreign concept to her.

N'bayé's mind worked fast, she already constructed a rough model sketch that could be mounted on the hover platforms. But she also encountered some flaws in the design, something Stella would be able to help her with.

"You are very resourceful," N'bayé said. Stella was caught off guard by the compliment and held her tongue on what she was about to say.

"Thank you," Stella replied, "We magic users have to learn how to manipulate the world that is already existing, we are not like the others after all." She added.

N'bayé nodded to acknowledge her words. Stella was right.

Magus creatures were not like other creatures who could generate energy or control matter.

Most creatures didn't know how their powers worked but the Maguses had some knowledge which they usually learned by studying themselves.

Other creatures could control and absorb their respective elements, allowing them to be effective anywhere but also specialized to one thing only.

An example was how fire-based creatures were able to ignite their bodies with fire. It was simply stored up fire energy that they used. With enough fire energy, they could even ignite themselves while being underwater.

This principle was also why metal users needed refined metal to be effective in using their powers. Metal skeletons were not enough, so they needed to store refined metal close to them.

Vegetation lions couldn't just create vines out of nothing because of a law, so they stored seeds

Every power had its own perks and ways in which they had to be used and the laws governing them with fire and electricity being the most lax.

Magic users had their own laws too, they could not absorb fire energy, or water molecules, or electricity. All they had was magic energy, or mana.

That was what they used to interact with the world. In essence, magic users had no power of their own besides their runes.

They had learned that forming certain shapes and lines with their magic energy resulted in different outcomes, runes.

Whereas other creatures can store fire energy, seeds, electricity, or air energy, Magic users stored runes.

However, the body was limited in space, causing them to have to innovate and think of creative ways to apply their runes to the world.

It was no coincidence that Maguses were so intelligent, their cognitive level was crucial for survival with their kind of power.

"Stella," N'bayé called out softly, looking at the bunny-eared woman with a calm expression.

"Yes,"

"Do you know why I'm here?" N'bayé asked.

"To take revenge on me for holding those two lionesses hostage?" Stella said with a questioning tone, she too wasn't so sure.

"No, they would have left this place even if we didn't come, someone else would have come for them," N'bayé said while shaking her head.

"So…"

"We came to take over this beach, from here to the distant sands and beyond where your eyes cannot see. We have come for it all," N'bayé spoke with a tone of finality in her voice.

She spoke as if there was no room for argument, that that was what would happen, no matter what.

"I see," Stella responded with an equally calm tone.

"Yes. You see, normally, I would disdain having to come here to meet a rabbit like you…" N'bayé turned her head to the side, looking at the horizon of the darkening day.

Her words successfully earned her a frown from Stella. To Stella, it was clear that N'bayé did not see rabbits as equals or creatures worthy of her attention.

"But your presence required my attention, and I'm glad that I came here. If not, those muscle brains would have ended up destroying such fine works," N'bayé said, referring to the makeshift turrets. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"Did we do something wrong? Did we offend you in some way?" Stella could not help but ask. Her mentality didn't allow her to fathom the true nature of lions.

"Oh no," N'bayé smiled for the first time, "I wasn't aware that we needed a reason to conquer before we did so."

"So you're just doing this because you want to?" Stella asked.

"Not really.

You and I may be magic users but we are definitely not the same you see.

Your desire to change the food chain is no secret, I would have assumed you were naive if not for the efforts you have put in."

N'bayé paused, allowing her subtle praise to settle in.

"Listen, I want you to join us, honestly," N'bayé said.

Stella raised her eyebrows, surprised that N'bayé would be so straightforward.

With her arms still behind her, N'bayé spoke, "A new power is rising, Stella. A new authority.

This place would fall under our control whether you like it or not, you have no say in it, nor do you have the power to stop it.

Before you think of fighting or resisting, I'm offering you the option of joining us. Someone with your powers would be valued and you would enjoy the privileges of working for the kingdom."

"Hmm," Stella began to think.

"Yes, and you would become the Caste leader of our new Rabbit Caste," Seeing that Stella was considering her words, N'bayé pressed on.

"Rabbit Caste?" Stella asked, "So you would protect the rabbits? We would no longer be on the food chain?"

N'bayé nodded instantly, "Yes," She lied, "You can create a haven for your rabbit race with you at the helm, all will be possible with us backing you…,"

"You're lying," Stella cut N'bayé off abruptly. She knew how hard it would be to protect all the rabbits, even if a haven was made for them. Why would this foreign faction waste so much energy just to protect the rabbits?

It wasn't logical.

N'bayé stared at Stella for a few more seconds then sighed with a tired smile, "Oh well," She shrugged her shoulders as the runes on her body began to glow excessively.

Her arms left her back and hung by her side, "No problem, we can try something else,"

At the end of her sentence, dozens of metal orbs with rune markings rose out of the seashore with power brimming within each of them.

Stella stared at the numerous orbs behind N'bayé with a narrowed gaze. The makeshift turrets lit up with runes as they activated once again.
