As they left the corridor, Jackie led the way to a spacious office that seemed to gleam brightly, a contrast to the chaos outside the factory. The room was filled with beautifully arranged furniture, and a shelf lined with books that stretched all the way to the ceiling.
Dave’s eyes widened as he took in the space, a sense of gratitude washing over him. This was his office now, his personal space as the leader of the faction. But he knew he won’t be staying here for too long. He has a lot of things to do, and staying all crunched up in this place isn’t ideal for him.
Jackie then gestured for Dave to take a seat behind the large wooden desk, which he obliged, as he sink into the plush chair. The leather creaked softly beneath him as he settled in.
"You should also make yourself comfortable, Jackie," Dave said, nodding towards the chair in front of the desk. Jackie sat down, his eyes locked onto Dave’s, a hint of anticipation dancing in their depths.
"I have a plan, Jackie," Dave said, his voice filled with conviction. "A very great plan." He leaned forward, his elbows resting on the desk, as he continued. "We need a base of operation in one of the large cities. Staying on the outskirt here isn’t the best. We need a much safer place, a much larger place... and we also need more members."
Jackie’s eyes lit up with interest, and he nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, yes. I’ve also been thinking about that," he said, standing up to approach the bookshelf. His fingers trailed over the spines of the books, and he pulled out a few, carrying them back to the desk. As he placed them in front of Dave, the covers creaked open, revealing pages filled with handwritten notes and diagrams.
"I made some researches," Jackie explained, his voice filled with a sense of pride. "Even if we head to the city, most of the buildings there are destroyed, and the amount of beasts present in those areas are overwhelming. We can’t make a base in a destroyed building, and staying there is almost as if we’ve given up on life." Jackie’s gaze met Dave’s, a hint of determination burning in his eyes.
"But then, I wondered how those present there are able to survive," Jackie continued, his fingers tracing over a particular page. "How are the military, the government, the elites able to survive despite all the chaos?" His eyes locked onto a specific picture in the book, and he pointed to it, his voice filled with excitement. "And that’s when I learnt this."
Dave’s eyes widened as he stared at the picture that Jackie pointed at. "A spaceship?" he asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
Jackie nodded, a hint of excitement creeping into his voice. "Not just any spaceship. It’s called an apocalypse spaceship. It’s as if the government had predicted that the apocalypse would happen. They’ve been able to survive so far because of this spaceship."
As Jackie began to explain the spaceship’s features, Dave’s incredulity gave way to fascination. "One, it has a stealth mode that can’t be detected by any being, not even the beasts can detect its presence," Jackie said, his fingers tracing over the diagrams in the book. "Even if a bird was to fly through it, it would seemingly just pass through it like it wasn’t even there. No weapon, no attack could penetrate it in that mode."
Dave’s eyes scanned the pages, taking in the details of the spaceship’s capabilities. "Two, it recharges using the sun, so we won’t have to worry about finding fuel or diesel to fill it up," Jackie continued, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "Three, it has a defense system and could launch different attacks of its own. It mostly stays in the air, so it rarely gets attacked by beasts."
Dave’s mind reeled as he processed the information. This spaceship could be a game-changer for their faction. But as the excitement built up, a practical question dawned on him. "So, how do we get hold of this spaceship?" he asked, his eyes locking onto Jackie’s.
Jackie’s expression turned grim, and he leaned back in his chair. "For that, we’re going to have to rob the government and the military. But that’s the problem. Due to the stealth mode of the spaceships, no one knows where exactly they are. There are six spaceships, but all of them have been taken by the military after the apocalypse started. So, even if we want to rob them, we don’t know where they are. We can’t rob them if we don’t know where they are."
Dave sighed deeply, the weight of the challenge settling in. "Well, I guess we’ll have to skip that for now," he said, his mind already shifting gears. "Right now, I need your help with something very urgent. Is there any restaurant around here?"
Jackie’s expression changed, a hint of curiosity replacing the seriousness. "A restaurant? What for?" he asked, his voice tinged with interest.
Dave’s voice took on a resolute tone as he spoke. "I need to pack some food and supplies for some survivors I came across on my way here. I promised to help them, so I need to fulfill my promise." His eyes met Jackie’s, and he could see the understanding reflected in them.
Jackie’s expression was sympathetic as he replied, "There’s a close restaurant we can go to, but there’s not much stock there. But we can go to another, which is a bit far from here. Hopefully, it should be enough for whoever you want to give it to." He shrugged slightly, his shoulders barely rising off the chair. "The restaurant’s been hit hard since... everything. Supplies are scarce, but we might still find something."
Dave’s jaw clenched in determination. "Well, they’ll have to make do with what’s available," he said firmly. "Something is better than nothing." His words hung in the air, a testament to his resolve to help those in need.
With a nod, Jackie stood up from his seat, the chair scraping softly against the floor. "Alright then, I’ll gather some people to go get the supplies for you," he said, his movements were swift as he turned around to leave. His footsteps could be heard echoing through the room as he walked out of Dave’s office.
As the door closed behind Jackie, Dave glanced out the window, noticing the sun’s position in the sky. It was already afternoon, casting a warm glow over the room.
With a quiet resolve, Dave brought up the system, he was planning on completing his two quests, while he waited for Jackie and the others to return with the supplies. And once they’re back, he’ll start heading to the building where he left Ella and Sun.
From his newly obtained ability, he could see the location of the two girls, they were still in the building adjacent to the Korean restaurant. This had showed how effective the ability was in tracking his harem wives. "I’ll be back soon girls, I know you’re worried about me."
