The Kingmaker System-Chapter 100 - 99. Work Done
Chapter 100: 99. Work Done
Miri’s shoulders relaxed as she smiled at me and sat beside me.
"I didn’t expect this day to come this soon." She said and I nodded.
"It was the fruits of your efforts, Master Ocean." She said and I sighed.
"All of our efforts, you mean, Your Highness." I corrected.
"You... don’t need to address me formally, Master Ocean." She said and I chuckled.
"Then why are you, a Princess, addressing me so formally?" I asked and she smiled.
"Because it only feels right to be respectful to the person who risked their life for us. You are the reason that we can now live our lives peacefully." She said as she looked at me with eyes filled with admiration and tears.
"I won’t take the whole credit, Princess. Everyone had to work their part for this plan to work."
She smiled and held my hand, "I and Mordino will always be indebted to you, Master Ocean."
I sighed and shook my head, "I had made a deal before we started this, remember?"
"Yes, Commander Dayla told me about it. You said that you wanted something from me and her after everything was over."
I smiled nodding, "So, what I want from you is to become a great Queen and continue being a friend to me."
She stared at me for a moment before smiling, "I’ll... be happy to be your friend, Master Ocean."
"Reina." I corrected.
"Yes, Reina." She giggled making me smile.
"Now, shall we go down? The people are waiting for us, I want to show them the Dragon who returned the glory to Mordino." She said and I sighed.
"About that..." I was a little hesitant to tell her that I had to leave right away.
"Are you not able to move? Are you hurt?" She asked looking at me.
"I’m not hurt anywhere, Your Highness."
"Miri." She corrected and I nodded.
"Right, Miri. I’m not hurt. It’s just I need to leave now. My work is done."
"B-But there’s going to be celebrations! And, we still need you here." She said and I placed my hand over her shoulder.
"What the people need is not me, Miri. They need you, they need their new Monarch to take reins and guide them in these chaotic times. The war may have ended but your responsibility for your people increases from now. You will have to keep growing so that all of those who are cheering right now will feel fulfilled under your rule."
"But... why can’t you stay for a little more while?" She asked and her lower lip quivered.
I couldn’t tell her that I couldn’t meet the Montaire family right now, they must be having the nice and warm family reunion right now as I had seen in my vision from back when I was at Frosthail.
The vision of Davian seeing his parents alive and well along with the background of the destroyed city and people cheering.
"I have other work,"
Like, my dear brother, Rune’s birthday.
"Can’t it wait?"
"Sadly, no."
She grew glum and I patted her head.
"But I will send you an instructor as I promised to help with your magic training and also ask for the Mage’s Tower of my kingdom to arrange a portal here so that the trade would be easier and also for me to drop by from time to time."
"You will visit me?" She asked and I nodded with a smile.
"Why wouldn’t I visit my dear friend?" I spoke making her smile widely.
"Also, here take this back." I said as I started to remove the pendant with the piece of the Dragon’s heart and she placed her hand over mine.
"Keep it,"
"What? But, isn’t this your family’s relic?"
"It’s fine. It was supposed to go to you so, please keep it with you." She said making me look once at the clear stone at my chest.
[Piece of Dragon’s Heart received.]
I left the description of it for later and recalled something.
"And, I also have a message for Commander Dayla and her family. Will you pass it on for me?"
"Yes!"
I smiled as I spoke up, "I fulfilled the promises I made to you, so, my work is done. And also, I’m sorry that I was a little late."
"All right, I’ll tell them." Miri said and I heard the sound of footsteps rushing towards us.
His aura hit me before he appeared.
"Ah, Miri don’t freak out." I quickly said before I removed my earstud and used up my reward.
[The reward {Temporary growth of your body.} has been activated.]
[The grown-up body of the Host will last for five minutes.]
[Time left for the reward period to end:
4 minutes 59 seconds.]
I felt the light covering my body before I opened my eyes finding myself in an adult’s body and the person rushing through the doorway of the roof and standing in front of me.
"Erm..." He blinked and I feigned confusion.
"Who might you be?" I asked, my voice was completely different it seemed really deep and smooth.
Miri stared at me with wide eyes and Davian who had suddenly appeared also looked taken aback.
"You... Where is Sir Ocean?" He asked and I and Miri exchanged a look, I gestured her quietly to play along and she seemed to get my intention.
"Sir Ocean? Pardon us, but this is the Princess of Mordino," I gestured towards Miri and then at myself, "and I’m her servant. Who might you be to walk over here so blatantly?" I demanded and Davian looked a little confused as he stared at me.
"I-I’m sorry, Princess." Davian bowed slightly.
He must be confused as my presence must tell of who I was but my appearance and words would fail him.
"Have you... seen a man with light blue hair? He is exceptionally beautiful and-and he’s also the one who was in the air from where that Dragon came from so, did you see where he went?"
Davian seemed like he had grown a little taller from the last time that I had seen him and he also seemed like he had lost a lot of weight. Still, he was well and now standing in front of me. I felt relieved to see him after a long time.
Besides, hearing him call Ocean exceptionally beautiful was quite surprising.
Regardless, his time with Ocean was up so, I didn’t want to meet him, I just didn’t expect him to come all the way here.
[Time left for the reward period to end:
2 minutes 59 seconds.]
"I suppose I saw him," I spoke up and Davian looked at me with hope swirling in his amethyst eyes.
"Did you? Where did he go?"
"He left."
"Left?"
"Yes, he said he had some important work so, after the battle was finished he left."
Davian pursed his lips before he clenched his fists.
"Why would he leave like that after... after..."
"I guess he said he will be returning home." I added and Davian looked at me.
"Home?"
"Yes."
Davian stayed in his place for a moment before he bowed to Miri.
"Then, I-I will take your leave, Your Highness and..." He looked at me as if to ask for my identity.
"Ugh." I gasped feigning pain.
"A-Are you all right?" Miri quickly jumped and started looking at me with worried eyes.
Davian didn’t linger as I got the attention off of him and he left making me sigh with relief.
I slumped over and looked down at my body. The system sure knew how to do its work.
I could definitely fit into the category of a hot babe. It felt awkward to call myself that but, the body sure was up to the point of perfection.
[Goddess of Wisdom says that your form had been designed by her special request.]
"Ah, thank you." I mentally took a bow to her talent.
[Goddess of Wisdom smiles with satisfaction.]
[Time left for the reward period to end:
07 seconds.]
"Um, Reina, why... I mean... How..."
The time limit ended and I reverted back to Reina’s form releasing a deep sigh.
"Whoa..." She gasped.
"What was that?"
"A magic disguise." I answered.
"Was he your acquaintance?" She asked and I nodded.
"Yes, he’s the reason why I came here." I admitted and she looked at me her eyes screaming of curiosity.
"Commander Dayla is that boy’s mother." I said and Miri gasped.
"What?!"
"She and her husband were held captive here by the Tyrant and as soon as I got that news I came here and he followed by with an army."
"Then... why didn’t you meet him?"
"Because he doesn’t need me anymore. His parents are on his side now so, I can focus on my work."
She looked a little wary at my words and I ruffled her hair, "I won’t avoid you like that so, don’t worry."
I placed the earstud back on and reverted to Ocean’s form.
"W-Why did you change your form? I like your real form." Miri pouted and I smiled.
"I can’t be out in my real form, Miri. It’s dangerous for my real family."
Miri nodded looking like she understood and I sighed.
"Anyways, you should head back now, your people must be waiting for you." I said and she pouted a little.
"Master!"
Lyall came running back again and I looked at him and then at Roan who was glaring at Lyall. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"His Grace came here..." Lyall spoke and I nodded.
"Yes, did he see you?" I asked.
"No, I hid away with him as soon as I saw him coming." Lyall pointed at Roan.
"More like you threw me into the alley and his yourself." Roan corrected.
"Good."
"But... He did come here, didn’t he?"
"Yes, and I managed to disguise myself before he could see me."
Lyall’s eyes twinkled while Roan frowned.
"What are you? How could you disguise yourself in such a short time?"
"That’s my forte, you don’t need to concern yourself over that." I said waving my hand in a dismissive manner.
"Roan take Her Highness back to the Revolutionary Army and then go straight to the temple and wait for us." I commanded.
Roan looked like he would argue but he obliged as Miri stood up and I saw her take a few steps away from me before she stopped and then came back and threw her arms around me.
I smiled as I patted her back gently and she said, "I will be waiting for you."
Miri left with Roan and I looked at Lyall and asked, "Are you all right?"
"Yes, Master."
I chuckled as he said that even after standing there with a battered and bloodied body.
"If it hurts just say it, Lyall."
He looked down for a moment before he admitted, "I... couldn’t... think about anything when I heard the news that you..."
He walked over and plopped down beside me.
"I request you, Master. Please don’t hesitate to put our lives on line, it is fine if I and people like me die for your sake but if something were to happen to you then, people like me and our families will be orphaned." He said before he looked at me right in the eyes as he added.
"You are our Guardian, Master Ocean. We live and die for your sake so, please don’t abandon us."
His words touched my heart and I couldn’t help but feel as if the responsibility that I had taken of was suddenly taking a shape on its own. Growing and expanding into a form that was beyond my making.
I patted Lyall’s shoulder as I assured him, "I would never abandon you. You’re my people, after all."
"Ah, besides, where are the other kids?"
"They are being treated right now, they will return to Frosthail after they will be good enough to travel." Lyall reported and I nodded.
"Good, let’s go now. Our work is done here."
"Yes, Master."
