The Kingmaker System-Chapter 110 - 109. Peevish (1)
Chapter 110: 109. Peevish (1)
Two days had passed since the time we returned from Isle Rosa and I couldn’t help but feel as though Rune was even more stressed.
He would leave to go to his friend’s place and would return in evening with a solemn expression. He would eat less and keep himself in his room when he wasn’t doing anything.
Even now he was only fiddling with his food before he sighed and then stood up.
"I’ll be returning first." Rune said and left the dining hall.
"Your brother..." Dad started, "Is there something troubling him?"
"I don’t know of it, he said he will handle it himself." I said and Dad looked at me.
"But him not eating well and looking so upset makes me worried." Dad said and I looked once at the closed doors.
I was planning on waiting for a week but if he continued doing so then he would only make other worry.
"I’ll look into it." I mumbled.
"Ah, if he told you he’ll do it on his own then let him be." Dad said and I frowned slightly.
"Let’s just ask him to eat well so that he doesn’t get sick or something."
After dinner I went back to my room but the thoughts wouldn’t let me sleep again, even though I had told Rune that I wouldn’t meddle until the week was up but I couldn’t help it. I had my sources to investigate of the matter as soon as I got back from Isle Rosa.
It had been two days so, I was just waiting for them to respond to me with the complete report on the matter that was making my brother lose appetite.
My restlessness eventually got the best of me and I put on my sapphire earstud before I leapt off of my room.
After a few minutes, I landed in front of Ryujin mansion and Lyall greeted me at the door taking the cloak off my shoulders.
"Have you found something?"
"Yes, but it’s still not complete report." He said and I groaned running my hand through my hair.
"It’s starting to annoy me now."
"I apologise for our shortcomings, Master. We will work harder to get you the reports soon."
I waved my hand dismissively and started making my way up to my study.
"Will you be working, Master?"
"I won’t be able to sleep anyways, so I should get some work done in the mean time." I said cracking my neck muscles.
"Should I bring you something to eat?" He asked.
"Some tea is fine."
I walked inside the room and took my seat watching the papers being slightly messed with, someone was in this place.
Who would dare to step inside my study without permission?
Lyall returned with the tray of tea and some biscuits.
"Who came into my study?" I asked.
"Mr Roan did, he said he wanted to have a look at the things you were working on, I told him not to mess around a lot. Is something wrong?" He asked and I sighed.
"No, just tell me this stuff beforehand and tell Roan to ask permission before stepping in here before he’s officially starting work."
"Yes, I’m sorry, Master. I will do as you say." He bowed deeply and I leaned back in my chair.
"Pour me some tea and then you can retire for the night." I said. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"I can stay at hand, if you need anything Master."
"It’s fine, there are other servants here as well. You should go and relax."
"I understand, Master."
Lyall brewed me some tea before he bowed and took his leave. Unlike the kind of look he’d carried for the past few months, he looked quite crisp and clean in his Butler’s attire.
His shaggy hair were trimmed and his facial hair was gone, he looked too sophisticated to be called an assassin.
I drank some tea as I kept working, it was after an hour or so after midnight that I heard the sound of someone’s footsteps approaching the study.
The door opened and a head poked in, "Master?"
It was Roan.
"What are you doing here so late?" He asked as he let himself in.
"I should be the one asking you that. This is my house, my study I can be anywhere at any time."
Roan almost rolled his eyes before he asked, "Where do you live though? This is your house but you’re not around."
"I’m busy with stuff that’s why I don’t come around that often."
He nodded before he walked over and stood near the chair in front of me.
"What are you working on?"
"Tax reports. Besides, why did you come in here in my absence?"
"Ah, I wanted to study a bit more about this place so, I was looking for some reports as well. I didn’t make too much mess though."
"Mess aside, you shouldn’t come in here without my permission, Roan." I said looking at him, "You aren’t officially my aide yet. I hate having someone intrude in my space without permission."
"I’m... Sorry, I’ll get permission next time."
"If you have any doubts or troubles studying about the region then, ask Enora or Lyall they will fill you in."
"Yes, Master."
"Also, how’s your training going?"
Roan released a huge sigh, "Don’t ask, it’s really hellish. Enora might not look like it but she really whips people around like anything. I can barely find any energy to move after the training session."
I smiled, "The training is going good then."
"Did you go through such a training too?" He asked.
"Hm? Yes,"
"Heh? I’ve never seen you physically fight though, you always only use your magic so I don’t know how strong you are."
"Are you trying to challenge me?" I asked.
"Sounds good. Why don’t we have a hand-to-hand combat when you’re free?"
"Are you sure?" I asked and he frowned slightly looking at me.
"Are you in a bad mood or something?" Roan asked and I tilted my head slightly before I continued writing.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Yes, you’re not usually this... peevish."
I chuckled, "I’m just waiting for something and it’s irritating me that it’s taking long."
"Oh, so, I guess our spar could help you vent a little." He offered.
"Well, since you’re offering then, I guess I can’t say no." I said making him smile.
"Don’t stay so irritable, Master. It doesn’t suit you."
I smiled looking at him, "Go and sleep now. I don’t want you to give me excuses tomorrow saying that you lost because you didn’t get enough rest."
"As if! I’m going to defeat you tomorrow."
"We’ll see."
"Sure, good night, Master." He waved before he walked over to the door.
"Good night." I replied before I focused back on my work.
I returned back home in the early hours of morning to inform that I would be away for the day.
Dad looked slightly worried but didn’t say anything but after breakfast Rune approached me.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Ryujin mansion,"
"Are you..." He seemed a little hesitant.
"I’m their Lord, I need to work from time to time. Besides, I told you I won’t step in until this week is done so, don’t worry. I won’t break my word."
Rune looked a little upset and I walked a few steps away before I heard him.
"I just don’t want you to be troubled that’s why I’m not telling you."
I turned slightly and looked at Rune.
"It’s... the school matter and related to us students that’s why I’m telling you that it’s fine if you don’t worry about it."
His face looked gaunt and there were dark bags under his eyes, he seemed like he hadn’t been able to rest for days.
"All right, if you say so." I said before I turned and left.
[Giver of Gifts worries about your brother.]
"It must be a really stressing matter."
I cursed the fact that I didn’t have any connections inside the Eden, it was the basic reason for the time that it was taking to get the information. If I had any source inside then I would have known before Rune started showing up so stressed.
I returned to Ryujin mansion finding everyone at the training ground, Roan seemed to have told everyone about our spar. That’s why apart from the ones who were usually taking the training there were everyone from the household who had gathered around the training ground.
"It’s Master!"
"Master has come!"
They quickly sensed me as I stepped on the training ground and walked towards the center.
"I didn’t expect so many people to come see you getting beaten." I spoke looking at the servants and guards looking enthusiastic.
"Hah! I told them that you were going to have a spar so, all of them gathered."
Enora seemed to be the referee for this spar match as she walked over to us.
"Are you going to oversee the match?" I asked.
"Yes, Master."
"So, what are the rules?" I asked.
"The match will strictly be a combat based one so, you must not use magic or any weapons. Apart from that this match will be based on three rounds. The rounds will be decided on the time one of you falls to the ground. The match will forfeit if someone falls unconscious, accepts defeat or dies."
Roan’s eyebrows twitched as she said the last part while looking at him.
"I’m not dying, Captain!"
She smiled a little before she looked at me.
"I hope the rules are clear. Do the fighters have anything to say? Or add some other rule?" She asked.
"I’m good." Roan said crunching his fists.
"I’m all right with it too." I said as I stood leisurely with my hands in the pockets of my trousers.
"Are you two ready? Then, begin!"
