The Kingmaker System-Chapter 141 - 140. People With Potential (2)
Chapter 141: 140. People With Potential (2)
"There’s no worry about being thrown away," I spoke up making Drac to look at me with wide hopeful eyes.
"Since Lyall already let you stay here, I guess it’s fine to say that you’re a part of us now." I said and his face broke into a huge smile.
"Tha-Thank you, Master!"
I turned my gaze on Lyall and he straightened up.
"Complete report." I ordered and he bowed.
"Yes, Master."
Drac was sent out while Lyall gave me the reports while I stood near the window watching the kids playing in the yard behind the inn.
"There were multiple ambush attacks here in the past month, Master but ever since Drac came, we had an upperhand."
"You didn’t suspect him?" I asked.
"He said you saved his life and that he’s chosen you as his Master so..."
"Was that enough for you to take him in?"
"I thought I’d keep him by my side and see what he was up to. If he had any ulterior motives then I could take care of him before such nuisance reached your ears that’s why I didn’t report back to you about him thinking he’d be long gone before you came."
I sighed deeply as I saw Drac walking into the yard and the kids gathering around him with huge smiles.
Lyall went on the explain as the envelopes from different Bosses kept arriving asking for a meeting. I walked over to the desk and he handed me the letters which had different seals.
A hawk seal, a snake seal and finally, a seal which had a devil’s with the picture of a ram with inverted horns crest.
I knew everything wouldn’t be smooth sailing here but to think that he wouldn’t report back to me about the serious things as an ambush was grating my nerves.
This place was a black market closest to the capital and there were a lot of people with their eyes on this location so, the word life-threatening couldn’t even begin to describe the dangerous one could face here. These Bosses who were dying to know my real identity could do anything to get their hands on this place which had become an empty throne.
If I didn’t show them my power then they would keep thinking that they could do whatever they wanted. With my absence it must have been hard for Lyall to handle things by himself but I would have dropped by earlier if he had given me one work about the ambush.
Their lives were my responsibility and for him to keep things like this made my blood boil. God forbid if something worse would have happened then I would have lost one of my most valuable people.
"Did you find who the attackers belonged to?" I asked.
"Not yet, but our sources are looking into it." Lyall answered making my eyebrows twitch as it added fuel to my anger.
"Has our system grown lax? Usually any information would be found by now, for the past whole month you’ve been going through ambushes but you still haven’t found out who is behind it?"
Ridiculous as it sounded, it just kicked my anger up the notch again and I couldn’t help but feel tempted to take over the entire Underworld by massacring the so-called Bosses.
Lyall hung his head, "I’ll look into it, Master."
I sighed, "Stay put for now, I’ll do something about it."
"Wha-" he gasped and I noticed Drac playing with the kids.
"Who are those kids?" I asked and Lyall came and stood beside me to see where I was pointing at.
"They were the victims of the auction." He answered.
"Since they have no one, they live in that building," he pointed at the neighbouring building.
"It’s a makeshift orphange, this place needs renovation and-"
"I’ll assign someone to take care of that stuff here." I said.
"I understand, Master."
I walked back to the desk and picked up the most recent letter sent to me by the Bosses.
I tore open the envelope and started reading the contents, making me sigh.
"I guess I’m on time." I mumbled.
"Pardon?"
"There’s a meeting that will be arranged tomorrow night, they’ve given me an official invitation." I told him.
"Come and show your legitimacy, is what they mean." I said as I placed the invitation card down.
"So... will you be attending, Master?"
"Yes, I also need to find out who dared to trespass in my place."
Lyall didn’t say anything and I looked at the window again watching Drac playing happily with the kids and I thought of something.
First of all, those Bosses should know their place so, I guess I could show them what it means to mess with a Dragon and next thing was.
"For this meeting, I’m not taking you Lyall." I said and Lyall flinched.
"I-I-"
"Go to Eldarf mansion and train the two human boys there." I said and he fidgeted.
"That’s your punishment for thinking you could keep things from me," and risk your and everyone else’s lives.
"I-I’m really sorry, Master. Please forgive me!" Lyall cried out and I looked at him making him flinch and take a step back.
"I don’t want an apology, Lyall. One of those will visit every weekend and one will stay there. You know who they are, don’t you?" I asked.
"... Yes, Master."
"Decide the time yourself, as soon as you finish teaching them you will return by my side. And I won’t be visiting that place because my work has increased so, those kids, all of them will be your responsibility." I commanded.
"Do you understand?"
"Yes, Master." He spoke with his head down.
"This isn’t only your punishment though," I said and he looked at me.
"Those kids are on their punishments as well so, whip them into shape."
"Yes, Master."
"Also, give those two a message from me," I said and looked at him, "If they dared to step out of line again then they would be facing an even harsher punishment."
With this I hoped he would learn his lesson and also stay in the safer place until I resolved this matter.
Lyall left Herot city the next day and I faced Drac who stood in front of me with his head down and hands at his sides. He seemed awkward and nervous unlike the times when I had met him.
I didn’t understand how exactly I blessed him but strangely enough, I could sense the presence of my mana throbbing in his chest. He was like a kin now.
"How exactly did I bless you?" I wondered aloud.
"I... I think it was because of that stone. It... might have been like a curse and when you destroyed it... You blessed me." He proposed and then placed his hand over his chest with a small smile.
"For all this while... I have felt your mana within me, Master. Your attack didn’t only save my life but gave me a new hope." He smiled at me brightly and I couldn’t help but stare at his chest.
I had punched him with my mana but I didn’t expect it to take a home into his body and bless him.
"Does this happen normally? A Dragon’s blessing another?"
[Dragon’s Blessing is a form of acknowledgement bequeathed over the beneficiary of the Dragon’s choosing. Most Dragons bless the successor of their choosing by passing on a certain amount of mana to them. The blessing acknowledges the receiver as a kin or progeny of the Dragon.]
I still had to study a lot about Dragons just like this blessing thing. But to think that I blessed another kid just like the Supreme Aqua Dragon had blessed me was giving me a strange feeling.
It was like I was suddenly a foster parent of a child.
Besides, this Lesser Dragon had acknowledged me as his Master so, he would be loyal to me just like the system’s description had told me about.
But, I still wasn’t sure as if whether I should trust him or not. He did come here claiming he wanted to serve me but I still couldn’t know if that was the only motive behind him coming all the way here.
"You will be going with me to a place tonight as my attendant." I instructed and he looked at me with wide eyes.
"Ye-Yes? Really?!"
"Yes, you will stay by my side, keep quiet and not move unless it’s necessary or I order you to. Do you understand?" I asked.
"Yes, Master!" He replied enthusiastically.
"Also," I added making him look expectant and I noticed the clothing he was in. A worn-out tunic and baggy trousers which were hanging by his hips by the rope.
"I’ll get you some better clothes to wear."
He looked down at his rags and then smiled, "Yes, Master!"
Seeing him smile that way made me wonder one thing, "How old are you?"
"Fifteen." He answered making my eyebrows jump.
"Fifteen?!" He nodded.
I thought he was in his late teens or at least in his early twenties but this kid was only 15?
"Probably..." He added hesitantly and I tilted my head. freёnovelkiss.com
"What?"
"I... I don’t know anything about my past just from the time that I was serving His Majesty Salem. They told me that I was 15."
"That guy’s dead so, just call him Salem don’t add ’His Majesty’, it’s annoying." I said and he nodded.
"All right, I won’t, Master."
"So, you don’t know about your parents or of your childhood?" I asked and he shook his head.
"Who gave you your name then?" I asked.
His smile faltered as he answered in a low voice, "Clyde."
"W-Would you give me a new name?" Drac asked.
"I-I don’t know much about Dragons but I’ve read a few books that Clyde brought me when I was young. I-It said that when a Dragon blesses someone they give them a new name... That new name means that the Dragon has accepted that person as their servant or-or kin." Drac explained.
"You want me to give you a name?" I asked and he looked at me with a smile.
"I-I would like any name you give me."
Clyde must have meant a lot for him, probably the only person who took care of him and he even gave him a name.
I gave it a little thought watching as he stood in front of me fidgeting before I announced.
"Fine then, I’ll give you a name."
