The Kingmaker System-Chapter 113 - 112. Justice For A Friend (1)
Chapter 113: 112. Justice For A Friend (1)
The chilly midnight air made my cloak flap and then settle down like a restless ghost before I landed on the railing of the balcony that led to the bedroom.
I looked once at Lyall who was on the branch of the tree nearby.
"I’ll be on a look out, Master." He told me and I gave him a nod before I opened the window letting the air sweep inside.
I walked up to the bed inside and saw the boy with deep blue hair lying there, I slowly lifted the sheets looking at his bandaged arms and the bruises that scattered over his body. His breathing was low and shallow and his heart beats were slower than normal.
I activated my Mana Eyes and noticed the internal injuries that were all around and the parts which were damaged because of the poison that he had ingested. He must have gone through hell.
[Activate Supreme Healing.]
My mana spread out and enveloped his body, detoxifying the poison and healing his internal and external injuries.
His breathing and heart rate returned to normal as I was done and I saw his eyelids crinkling before he opened his eyes revealing the fresh green orbs that instantly focused on me as I was standing over him.
"Who..." His voice was dry and coarse, I picked up the glass of water from the nearby table and held him sit up before handing him the water.
He stared at me cautiously before he slowly rose the glass to his lips.
"Are you... here to kill me?" He asked before he placed the glass down and I smiled.
"If I had to kill you I wouldn’t have healed you," I pointed out, "I would have already done my job."
He looked down at his arms, he tried to remove his bandages but because of the darkness he wasn’t able to. I placed my hand on his making him flinch before slowly unwinding the bandage revealing his clear pale skin.
He stared at his arms before he pursed his lips with his shoulders trembling as he hung his head.
"Wh-Why did you heal me?" His voice was strained and cracking. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"I... I’m a burden for everyone... My family... My friends... Everyone is... Everyone is suffering so much." He sniffled and I placed my hand on the back of his head gently brushing his hair.
"If you were a burden then everyone around you wouldn’t be trying so hard for your sake."
"But, they! They all... I... It’s my fault after all... Why are they... I have no right to pull them in my problems."
I brushed the back of his head as I felt the tremors run through his body hearing his sobbing and watching his tears falling onto his balled up fists.
"I-I don’t deserve it... I’m just a countryside bumpkin who... should know his place. I have nothing... like those other aristocrats."
"You’re wrong." I spoke up, "You have friends who are willing to go to any lengths to help you."
"But... even they are having a hard time because of me."
"I can understand the guilt you’re feeling but you would have done the same thing if any other friend of yours would be in the same situation, right?"
He fell silent for a moment and I could only hear him sniffling before he lifted his head and looked at me with tears running down his flushed cheeks and eyes glistening.
"Wh-Who are you?" He stuttered.
I smiled, "I’m someone who could help you win this battle."
He sniffed wiping his tears with the sleeve of his shirt before asking, "B-But I don’t even know you... What do you want in exchange for helping me?"
I hummed a little as I stepped back and grabbed the armchair before pulling it close to the side of the bed and took a seat.
"I will tell you what I want but for now I’m only here to tell you a few things and make a deal with you."
Luke pushed the sheets away and turned to face me with a determined expression.
"First and foremost, are you willing to fight?"
His lips tightened in a firm line and his fists clenched over his thighs.
"But... I don’t have any power or any evidence."
"I’ll give you those things, what I want from you is not give up and stand straight to face it."
He looked a little wary and I added, "Your family will not face any trouble and even your friends will be safe. I will gather evidence and make sure that you go back to Eden with the respect that you deserve."
He looked like he was still wary of me and I smiled.
"I know it’s hard to believe considering I’m a stranger to you but in exchange of you repairing your image and proving your worth to the world, I will hire you."
"H-Hire me?"
"I will tell you who I am but before that you need to decide that you will stand up for yourself or will you let those who have destroyed a lot of lives win?"
I stood up from the chair, "Luke Clive, there are still people who haven’t given up on you so, you too should fulfill your role and not give up like this."
"Do you understand?" I asked as I tapped my fingers over his forehead twice making him stare at me with wide eyes.
"Also, don’t worry about the debt that has fallen on your father."
He gasped and I said, "I will take care of it."
I started to leave when I heard him ask.
"B-B-But why... Why are you helping me?"
I turned to look at him with a smile as the wind blew my hair over my face, "You will know when the time comes."
"Wait!" I heard him shout before I climbed over the railing of the balcony and looked down at him as he followed me.
"Ho-How can you-"
"Also, can you keep this meeting a secret from others? I’ll come see you again tomorrow night." I told him before I looked over at Lyall who was on the tree branch.
"What the- there’s another one!" Luke gasped and I chuckled.
"Don’t be surprised if you happened to see someone like this, these are my people who are keeping an eye on your surroundings to keep you safe."
"Wha-"
"Have a good night, Luke Clive. I’ll see you tomorrow."
With that said, I leapt off hearing his gasp before I unfurled my wings keeping them invisible before I flew away.
I landed out of the estate and we teleported over to Ryujin mansion.
"Did you find any rats?" I asked.
"Yes, there were two of them. But they were already taken care of by the team we assigned in that area."
"Good. Now all I have to do is wait for tomorrow to end and after that we can move."
The next night surprisingly came faster than I expected, I had been busy with my own paperwork and also preparing for my plan before the clock hit midnight.
I ate dinner at Aurelius mansion and after overviewing some documents that I had brought along, I looked at the clock which showed that it was almost midnight. I was almost getting ready to head back to Ryujin mansion when I heard the sound of a knock on my door.
"Come in." I said as I held the sapphire earstud in my hand.
The door opened and Rune walked inside making my eyebrows twitch. He wordlessly walked up to the chair and sat down with his shoulders slumped and head hung.
"Brother?" I called and he released a low sigh.
"I... I lost, Reina. I couldn’t do anything."
I walked over and sat in front of him, "I wouldn’t say you lost, Brother. Your power is limited as of now with time when you gather more strength then you won’t find such things as crushing."
"But... I couldn’t help him now."
"Your friend?" I asked and he nodded.
"You... must already know everything, right? I can’t even do that. You’ve grown so strong that I couldn’t help but feel as if you... don’t need me now. Even if I try to help you I might just get in your way. I’m of no use to anyone."
"You are so strong and intelligent, you went for a war and brought the victory to that kingdom, you even rescued the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess. You also have the Dragon’s heart and there are so many people who look up to you and respect you so much."
"I knew you could have solved our problem within no time but I... didn’t want you to get involved because I knew you’re extremely busy. I know you would leave everything else behind and help us but... I didn’t want you to. I didn’t want you to worry about me, I wanted to show you that even I am capable of solving such things even I can help others just the way you do but, I’m of no use to anyone. I can’t even help my friend."
Was this a kind of inferiority complex?
I reached out and held his hand, "Why are you saying this?"
"But-"
"If it weren’t for you I would’ve been already dead, Brother." I interjected him and he looked at me.
"You and Father are very precious to me, Brother. So never think that you’re of no use to me or that you get in my way."
Rune’s face had grown haggard now and there were bags under his eyes which made me angry and sad at the same time.
"But I still failed..." He avoided my eyes and I sighed.
"Then, let’s do it together this time. If we’re together, we’ll surely be able to help your friend."
Rune stared at me for a moment before the tears glistened at the corners of his eyes and he threw his arms around my shoulders. I patted his back gently feeling relieved and also anticipating my next move.
